Free Drinks in the Casino?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I have only cruised once (on our honeymoon in 9/01-yes we were in the middle of the Caribbean during 911!) and we are finally going again 5/8/11. Now since it will have been 10 years, our memories are a little sketchy! He says that drinks are free in the ship's casino like in Las Vegas and I said I didn't think so. Can someone help us out with the answer? For once, I hope I am wrong about this one!

Thank you in advance,

Melissa

Unfortunately you are correct Melissa - no free drinks or easy money in a ship casino.

Actually you and your husband are both partly correct.

You need to check specifically with each cruise line. Generally speaking in order to receive "free drinks" in the ship's casino, one first has to be registered in the Casino's Player Club. Than after being enrolled in the ships Players Club , you have to reach a certain level of casino spending to receive free drink. If you're a BIG $ Casino Spender and registered in their Players Club you may even qualify for discounts on future cruises depending on the line.

If you are not enrolled in the Player's Club or even if enrolled and you haven't met the qualifying $ spend, you will pay for ALL drinks.

I have to disagree. Even in the Scenario you described (which is correct) Melissa is still correct, as those drinks are not FREE by any means;):p:eek::eek:

The difference between Vegas, and the ship is simple. On the ship, you are a captive audience, with easy access all day, to stop in whenever you want. In Vegas, you have a huge amount of options, with each option, trying to keep you at their place. So on the ship, everyone would stop in, put a dollar in a slot, get their free drink, and leave, thus saving $4.00+++ each visit. Why would anyone buy a drink, if you can get it free?

As free as the ones in Vegas.

It may have seemed free because of your sail and sign card, especially if you have already had a few drinks. But unfortunately it is not.
