wineluvr Posted May 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2010 I saw that Celebrity just announced a sweepstakes where they are giving away 16 cruises on Solstice (including air for two)! Grand prize is a Royal Suite, five first prizes in Aqua Class, and ten second prizes in Concierge Class. http://www.celebritycruises.com/cruisethecaribbean

Bruin Steve Posted May 7, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2010 Thanks for the link... I'm sure the odds aren't very good, but, who knows? Somebody wins... ...I'm already doing one upcoming free cruise (Suite on Oceania) I won in a contest...So, who knows...either I've used up my allotment of luck...or, I'm just lucky! Albert Ross Posted May 8, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Been sent to us too in the UK but those in the UK cannot enter  Just like when they sent us the competition to go on Eclipse that was for USA/Canada only too. Perhaps they need to get their distribution lists sorted out. Ever heard of filtering by country?
Adammara Posted May 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted May 8, 2010 We had an email this morning, got quite excited, then found we could not enter! Did win a cruise on QE2 in 1991, which got us hooked. Have to make to with Eclipse on the 21st! Richard

pspercy Posted May 9, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 9, 2010 What about the small print ? ONE (1) GRAND PRIZE: A Caribbean cruise and air package for winner and one guest on winner's choice of Celebrity Solstice or Celebrity Eclipse in a Royal Suite (category RS), details below, and $2,711 that may be used toward taxes. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): $11,747 USD Does that mean you'll get an IRS Form 1099 for $11.747 ?
sweetair Posted May 9, 2010 #14 Share Posted May 9, 2010 yes pspercy I believe you get a 1099 on any win over a certain amount of money anyone know the approx tax percentage you pay on a win? 30% 38% i know its high. This type of win cannot be offset by losses (like gambling) *sweet*
pspercy Posted May 9, 2010 #15 Share Posted May 9, 2010 I believe it's treated as ordinary income.

SusieV Posted May 10, 2010 #17 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Wow, it's actually open to Canadians too! (and we don't pay any taxes!)
Mr&MrsBee Posted May 10, 2010 #18 Share Posted May 10, 2010 How can you not pay any taxes when supporting the socialized medical plan of Canada? I saw on the internet the tax rate is 15% to 29% depending on income. Doesn't each Province have a tax?

Michidoeme Posted May 10, 2010 #20 Share Posted May 10, 2010 It is very disappointing to get the mailing and then to find out Europeans can not enter (we are living in Switzerland). Wonder why Celebrity can not extend this to other countries as well, or why they at least can not get their mailings directed correctly ?
Andym Posted May 10, 2010 #21 Share Posted May 10, 2010 We too got the mailing, but cannot enter. Not as bad as the letter we got to win a sailing on the Eclipsewe had to log onto our own personalised website with a password, trouble was the competition had closed 3 weeks before the mailing date on the letter. I emailed customer services and was told they would be trying harder. Seems they still need to try harder.
