Spirit to Alaska 5/5 - 5-11 Pic Review

Recommended Posts

Went to the show that night, donated a little more in the casino, and then called it a night.

Announcements were made and it was on the Fun Times reminding everyone to set their clocks back another hour to Alaska time...so there is 4 hours time diff between Alaska and the east coast. We would cross into Alaska around midnight or so.

Tomorrow is Juneau.

Thank you sooooooooo much for taking the time to share your pics and give a review! We leave a week from tomorrow on the Spirit out of Seattle, :D and this is getting me sooooooo excited! :D Can't wait to see the rest, it's wonderful eye candy until I can get there, thanks again. :) I do have 1 quick question, what were the rooms on the inside of the ship like temperature wise? Example, the casino, dining room, show lounge, where the shops are. Would I be comfortable in short sleeves, or should I wear long sleeves? Were they chilly, comfortable, warm? Thanks for any help. :)

I usually had on just a sweatshirt and was comfortable...even uptop. I saw lots of people in t-shirts. Pam, however, was cold most of the time and uptop she wore her winter coat....so I guess it depends on whether or not you get cold easily.

Thanks so much for the pictures and review so far!! Could you hear the naturalist from your balcony?

Yes, you could. You didn't hear it in your room though....there is a tv channel that the announcement could be heard so I would either open the balcony door or switch the TV over.

Thanks! Yes, I do get cold easily, and once I'm cold, I stay cold until I have a hot shower. :o I guess that's what being from GA will do for ya........I'm used to it being hot.

Alright ! Juneau, here we come !

Well, it turned out, here we come only to wait and wait at a totally crowded gangway....this was where Carnival could have done much much better organizing....I do believe every single person on the ship was trying to get off at the same time. An announcement was finally made that only people with 2:30 excursions were being allowed off first. In the area we were in, that started alot of pushing and shoving...I guess tempers were getting a little bit frazzeled. I even witnessed a mother carrying her little girl and allowing the little one to hit an older gentlemen in the back in front of them....what a thing to teach a young one !

Anyway, we finally made it off as we had a 2:30 excursion....the Mendenhall Glacier and Wildlife Quest. This was where everything got so much better....being the only ship in port, nothing was crowded and the people from Juneau were wonderful !

It was about a half hour ride on the bus. On the way out, we passed by the Red Dog Saloon.

This was actually 3 Glaciers that have come together which is why it looks like truck tracks.

Onward to search for more wildlife...

It was only a matter of minutes when they made an announcement that their sister ship had spotted a pod of killer whales so they turned the boat to get them inbetween the two.

They had just said that we probably would not see any Orcas since it only happens about 10% of the time....guess we were in that 10% !

Now....can't you just hear the Jaws theme here ?!? LOL

Don't laugh... is this near the pier? Or did you see it during your excursion? DH will be on a tour and I thought I would squeeze in some shopping. ;)

Oh....a kindred spirit ! This was on the excursion so I can't say how close it was to the pier.....
