Oasis 5/8 to 5/15 Mini review

Recommended Posts

Got to terminal at around 10:50 and was on the ship by 11:20 including Platinum check in and boarding.

Ships entry was on floor 5 promenade. Simply beautiful, similar to voyager class.

My room was 11682. Great balcony roon and perfect location. Few doors down from elevator but the rear elevators transported us to dining, boardwalk, central park, promenade, and casino. Mostly all clubs and good places are in the back of the ship.

Missed or slept through most shows and activities. Did see Frozen in Time and Come Fly with Me. Make sure you make reservations for shows before you leave. It was impossible to get reservations off the tv system when on board, otherwise you have to wait in standby. I had MTD and never had a problem getting in without a reservation though it seemed to be a line between 7-8pm, only saw them handing out champagne once.

Where are the midnight buffets? Not on this ship, the windjammer usually closed at 9 or 930pm, so the only place to get "complimentary" food is cafe promenade which is just 3 sandwich selections and dessert or pizza until 3am......

Sea day lounge chairs by the pool - none. Did find some non reclining chairs to sit in.

I was dissapointed no horse racing and also the last day jackpot bingo that im used to they didnt have. only 2K jackpot bingo all week.

Didnt do ship excursions, did go to Orient Beach, Orient Club nude side. About 50% were either topless or nude, there were a lot of people I guess walking the beach to gawk.

I cant think of anything else off the top of my head but if I can answer any questions, let me know.

Really the only time I can complain about crowds was for the parades that only ran 1 time each on the promenade. Imposiible to see much due to crowding, but you could always rewatch them on the TV. The elevators did get crowded at peak dinner times, but even getting on and off the ships at ports was painless, unless you were cutting it close to departure time, then I did notice lines outside secruity.

They also changed the flo rider and zip lines to no reservations, I did zip line with no wait st thomas morning at 9am when they opened, did it twice. Flo rider as well that morning with only about 6 people in line rotation, though I would recommend waiting till last day to ride if you arent too coordinated like me. Those 32K gallons of water a minute push you like a jet up that thing when you fall and right into a not so padded wall. Fun none the less! I did see last day usually a line of about 20-25 people for the flo riders, but the lines still went pretty fast.

On another note, if you are trying to do the $99 photo book, they will not put florider pics in the book and I never saw anyone taking mini golf or zip line photos for the book, so all we ended up with on our sports pae is one photo in the pool. They do beautiful portraits out by the carousel and in central park some nights, these turned out the best!

Did they take your photo when getting on the ship? This is the first ship that there was no one taking photos unless we missed it somehow. We boarded around noon. Or maybe due to the volume of guests boarding they do not do it at all??

They had 6 backdrops set up behind the checkin booths (I think the second set where they had lineups for diamon, diamond plus, and suites. They said they needed that picture so that you were put into the facial recognition software. The only other time we needed the card for photos was once or twice at some of the portrait locations so I guess the could just double check the pics were all going to the right portfolio.

The $99 album was not included in the 20% off sale, just loose photos in your folio. The album is still let up for Nassau stop on friday so you cant add that photo to your book (books need to be ordered and edited final by friday at 3pm and tht was cutting it too close for friday nassau itenary i guess...)

There was not really an enforcement on time limit on flo rider but when the line started to get long they made you start doing tricks right away and when you fell, your turn was over.

and for the people interested in florider:

There was one set up for boogie boarding and one set up for surfing. From 8am-9am it was advanced then went to regular at 9am. The only difference being the ride attendant would hold your nahds to hold you up while you try to put yourself out in the middle.

Lessons could be taken in I think groups of 5 at certain times for $60. I was going to take a lesson but I couldnt handle the falls on that beast. I fell twice on the surfing on wednesday and fell once on friday and my neck and back are still sore from the ride up and crash into the wall.

The zip line they say is 82 feel - quick ride.

You need to either sign the waiver online for these activities and receive a blue plastic bracelet. You keep this on for the week and get a new colored bracelet each day you want to do zip or flo. These bracelets accessorize any dress for formal night LOL

I was on this voyage as well. I spent much time at the pool especially on sea days. There were plenty of chases on deck 16, the deck above the pool. That was at all times. There is no more chair hogging as you are only limited to 2 towels per card. That pretty eliminated that problem.

I loved this ship. I thought the food was very good. I only had dinner in the dining room. There were plenty of choices to eat.

The shows were great. I went to all of them. I made my reservations the day I was able to. I just walked past all the lines.

People, do not get stressed out over what the menus are. There are plenty of choices. Leave some surprises.

I thought that Ken Rush was great. I was able to speak to him many times. His version of the Love and Marriage game and Quest were great.

Any booked to go, you are going to love this ship.

Ditto on the chairs on sea days. We wer eon the same sailing and I always went up to deck 16 and there were always chairs available which I did not expect.

^ cooncat, I agree with your comments (I edited some for brevity). The food was good, there were always loungers (I was surprised!), and Ken Rush was (IMO) unobtrusive and cordial. He was the complete opposite of what I had been told to expect from him.

Oasis is one massive beast of a ship. They have done an outstanding job of embarkation and disembarkation, the smoothest ever of all our cruises. Go with an open mind, don't let the little things bug you, and enjoy your vacation. :)

So we don't need to rush up to sign up for the florider and zipline when we board the ship?? Are the lines crazy long with no reservations??

No need to rush for either the zip line or flowrider. My husband and daughter spent almost their whole week on the flowrider. I sat and video-taped. The lines were never long. You should go ahead and sign your waivers before you go. Every day you will need to get a daily wristband, but the most either of them waited was about 5 minutes. For the most part, the lines were short and sometimes nonexistent.

I also suggest private lessons. My daughter took lessons two nights in a row. I believe they allow up to 8 people. There were only three signed up when my daughter took them. That's rare. Anyway, the lessons were extremely helpful. Also, the staff got to know her and gave her extra help during the day. The staff for the sports area is awesome! You'll love them! Lots of fun and patience!

Enjoy every minute of your cruise! It goes by quickly! We were on the May 8 - 15th cruise and wish we could have stayed this week too!
