woodscruise Posted May 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2010 PETER DEILMANN CRUISES HAS HAD TO EVACUATE 607crew and guests (including Australians) from onboard ms Deutschland, after a fireerupted in one of its machine rooms.According to reports, the fire broke outon Sunday whilst Deutschland was cruisingon her 16-night Norwegian Fjord itinerary,and although the fire was contained to theone machine room, the heat spread throughthe vessel rapidly.So far there have been no reports ofinjuries, and evacuees which hail fromAustralia, Germany, Israel, Japan and theCzech Republic are currently holed up in ahotel in the port township of Eidfjordenbefore awaiting flights back to Hamburgwhere Deutschland departed from.As for the vessel, she is currently docked inEidfjord where yesterday firefighters werestill using hoses and pumps to cool her hull.A regional rescue worker, Per Fjeld toldlocal reporters that at present, it is still toosoon to determine the extent of Deutschland’s damage.
