Ship: Mariner of the Seas

Deck: 9

Stateroom: 9598

Category: Jr. Suite

Starboard or Portside: Port

Obstructed views: none

Quiet? For the most part this cabin was quiet. It is directly across the hall from a crew service door (where the room stewards get ice, towels etc.) so we did hear the noise from that sometimes when they would do stuff in there with the door (crew door) left open. If the balcony door is open it's pretty easy to hear deck chairs being moved around from the surrounding balconies, but we figured that would be expected. Voices seemed to carry from our neighbors as well when the balcony door was open. I keep it open a lot on my cruises if it's not to hot, and I just felt that we had some overly noisy neighbors on this cruise. Lol!

Connecting room: No

Aft cabin, if so was there any problems? N/A

Specific problems? The top left drawer on the vanity does not open easily at all and there were times I thought that it was just going to break. Sometimes it was a struggle to get it opened and/or closed.

Other comments: If you like to hang out on the balcony and/or leave the balcony door open a lot, be fore warned that the smell from Izumi Hibachi finds it's was up to your level and into your room each and every day and IT WILL MAKE YOU HUNGRY! I personally loved the smell, but if you don't like the smell of garlic and hibachi/Chinese food, then this is an area of the ship you just might want to avoid.

Ship - Anthem of the Seas

Deck - 7

Stateroom Category – Grand Suite with  Large Balcony 1 Bedroom

Starboard or Port Side - starboard

Quiet Stateroom? Very!

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

Balcony View - Excellent.  There was a full-wall window in the bedroom portion of the cabin looking out to the balcony and the sea

Balcony Size? Oversized.  Two outdoor cushioned armchairs with footstools and a small table

Was wind a problem? - Windy at times with some whistling from the balcony door.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - NA

Any specific problems with this cabin? - none

Any other comments? - This location was 4 cabins forward from the elevator lobby, and shared minimal wall space with the next cabin forward of us.  Large bathroom with tub and two sinks, with doors from the both living area and the bedroom.  Extensive storage space via closets, shelves, and drawers.

Ship: Icon of the Seas

Deck -11

Stateroom # - 11705

Stateroom Category – Surfside Family Suite

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? sometimes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

Balcony View -  overlooking surfside neighborhood

Balcony Size? Small

Was wind a problem? - no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - NA

Any specific problems with this cabin? - yes Cabin had very little storage.  Split bathroom a good idea- but not good.  Toilet side tiny.  If you are over 6'2" or a large person, sitting on toilet very uncomfortable. Toilet paper holder in an awkward position.   Tiny sink no storage in toilet area.  No place for towel- hooks on back of the door but towel keeps falling on the floor.  shower  side of the bathroom better.

Any other comments? -Cabin advertised as for three or four- small tiny room that has a couch and TV with a cabinet above the couch-  Only good for one small child.  Shouldn't be in the suite category.  Very disappointing.

Ship - Ovation of the Seas

Deck - 13

Stateroom # - 654

Stateroom Category – 2D

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Husband and I heard some tapping noises on occasion (not consistent or constant) which were hard to work out the origin of. However, the stateroom is located directly below the Coastal Kitchen so maybe that was the cause. Noises didn't continue all through the night and most nights we slept well and we're not particularly heavy sleepers. Next to no noise from the hallway and no noise from neighbouring staterooms although neighbours could be heard when out on the balcony which is to be expected.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Loved it, although when going through the 'sounds' in New Zealand couldn't see the tops of the mountains as the floor above (Deck 14) protrudes further out than Deck 13 and effectively creates an awning. Also, a supporting beam to the right side of our balcony gets in some photos but didn't bother us unduly.

The Stateroom next to ours (13 652) had what appeared to be a window washers cage suspended above their balcony (see image) which would have blocked part of their view but didn't impede ours. We did need to go up to Deck 15 for full views due to the awning. Have read other reviews complaining a lot about this issue but for us it was only one day. Would not choose this location for destinations that had lots of mountains eg, Alaska, fjords. It did provide shade at certain times of day which was quite pleasant.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? - Only on a day which had high winds, which would have impacted the whole starboard side of the ship.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No

Any specific problems with this cabin? - No

Any other comments? - Layout was great with the bed close to the balcony doors. Plenty of walk space which narrows around the end and balcony side of the bed but still easy enough to walk through. Lots of storage, we didn't need to use the cupboards above the bed at all. Husband said he felt the shower space was a little small. Plenty of shelves in the bathroom for toiletries etc.

Everything was in great condition, no signs of wear anywhere.

Electric kettle and instant coffee, teabags, sugar and long-life milks available in room which was amazing.

Ship - Explorer of the Seas

Deck - 9

Stateroom # - 9558

Stateroom Category – Jr Suite

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom?  Yes, quiet.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - No obstructions. The sides are solid steel so this balcony is much more private than ships with panels.  But the front is not full glass as some ships are. This was true for all rooms.

Balcony Size? Standard depth.  Wider than standard as the room is wider.

Was wind a problem? - Amazingly little even when other outdoor access was closed.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No

Any specific problems with this cabin? - The one issue was a leak from a pipe above the balcony that dripped into the balcony. I reported it but they need a crew outside to fix.

The only other comments to make is that the closets is AMAZING.  The bathroom is also larger, with a tub, but smaller bathrooms have never bugged us. The room is very spacious, the window goes across the whole room, there are no obstructions and the closet holds more than you can bring on board even with checked luggage. The Explorer is older but we had no issues.  Everything was clean.
