Vow renewal on ship

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever renewed their vows on the ship? The price is pretty good and I think it would be neat for our 10 year anniversary. Was it worth it that you've seen?

Also I have had the wraparound balcony before, this time we are in the very aft balconies. I know they are a bit bigger, can anyone tell me where to find a good pic? Thanks for any help

Yikes. Too pricey for my blood.

I wish they did something for like 50 bucks. Get everybody that wants to do it in the room at once, do your vows in a group and then get a picture with the captain. I understand if you're going to have family with you, but if it's just the two of you, an open bar and a cake seems a little much.

We did the renewal of vows on the Carnival Triumph. They did a GREAT job and came with all the amenities you mention. HERE'S THE CATCH.....After the ceremony, they will parade you around the ship for photo ops and when all is said and done, will try to sell you a photo/slideshow video package that is over $1100.00 . We only chose a few pics (since our friends took a lot of pics) and the slideshow video and got it down to $250. As I said though, they did a great job and the Captain sat with us after and had cake and coffee and talked with us for about 45 minutes. Pretty cool I thought. Just wanted to warn you ahead of time of the pictures/slideshow thing though. Have a great time!!

Since a renewal isn't "legal"....(I mean, you're already married!), you could do a DIY thing....you really don't need to pay someone to help you tell your spouse that you love them and would do it all over again!

I disagree CB. I surprised my wife with this on the cruise and we did the renewal on our anniversary date. She was SOO surprised and with all the day to day stress that is put on marriages today, I thought (and still think) a ceremony such as this shows how much you love your spouse. I planned and had 2 past cruise friends stand up for us (as best man and maid of honor)and the WHOLE ceremony was excellent. Having a "DIY" renewal can be done at home. BUT, having it on a cruise ship just adds that extra zing! Just my oponion though:rolleyes:

We did this on the Liberty for our 25th, my husband surprised me.

It was on the second formal night and we were on our way to what I thought was dinner, when we got to the room where they performed the ceremony , my DH stopped ,took my hand and ask me if I'd marry him again. I thought he was joking until the wedding cooridnater opened the door and ask if we were Mr and Mrs so and so and I knew then it was no joke. My whole family knew about it.

I'll have to search for my pics and post if you want to see how they did the room.

Friends that we cruise with did it a few years ago on the Miracle. It was really special. They have a beautiful little chapel. I probably wouldn't go to the expense if its just you guys but if you have a group it is really neat. I think they did it on a sea day. The wedding coordinator met with them early on in the trip and planned it out with them. She helped the "bride" with hair appointments and such and even found some baby's breath for her hair.

The bride was late so we got to chat with the Captain for a bit. After the ceremony we went to an adjacent lounge for champagne and cake. We saved the cake and had them deliver it to our table at dinner.

This past May on the Dream we renewed our vows. It was a wonderful experience. My husband did all of the planning - all special requests were accommodated.

Just a note - a ship's photographer will take absolutely beautiful pictures during the ceremony and will take you around the ship for additional photographs. Two days after the ceremony we met with the photographer to review the photos and listen to the sales pitch.

The only negative - we did not know in advance what day the ceremony would be. We were notified on the second day of the cruise when the ceremony would be performed. We were told it would be at 4:00pm on the third day of the cruise. It was quite a challenge to get into the salon to get my hair done.

We renewed our vows in December aboard the Glory. We did the $700 option and had 18 guests and us. The room was decorated really nicely. the flowers were nice, and the cake was wonderful. They gave us champagne for a toast, and then gave us a new bottle and some souvenir champagne glasses. The canapes were unbelievable, hot and cold, and laid out as a buffet. There was so much food we never bothered to go to dinner. The Captain did a great job at the service, and the photos were beautiful. Just buy what you want, no need to buy the package. We had an hour free bar, which started after the ceremony. I have to admit my guests made sure we got our money's worth.

It was a wonderful experience, far exceeded my expectations, so glad we did it. We were celebrating our 30th Anniversary.

We renewed our vows on the Freedom 3 years ago and I bought the $385. package.

Carnival did a great job and we were very impressed, but I will agree the picture packages are expensive, have somebody take the pictures.

Do you get to embark with the regular bridal parties first?

I am pretty sure they do the renewals while the ship is sailing, so I think the answer would be no. The only reason they let bridal parties on early is if they are getting married on the ship at the embarkation port, so that they have enough time before the ship sails.

We thought of doing this on our January Dream cruise as it will be our 30th and our 3 children and my fathers family will also be there but I hate the idea of the pressure to purchase pictures - do they really pressure you? And I don't think I want to be paraded around the ship while they snap pictures either - do we have to do that?

Thanks

We got married on the Miracle and had a similar experience. There's no pressure to buy them, but you have to haggle to get any kind of deal. Otherwise it's standard photo prices. $20 for an 8x10 or something like that.. It's a rip-off.. But it was no pressure at all. You could easily walk away, or buy a few pics or whatever. And they did parade us around but I think if you didn't want that, you're not forced to.. In our case, it was done after the ceremony and reception, so you could easily tell the photographer to get lost.

That sounds wonderful and not bad prices at all. I was wanting to renew our vows for our 15th next June is Cozumel, but for the price, the ship sounds better. And, to have the Captain perform the ceremony makes it really sound interesting to me.

While I know you're asking about Carnival's vow renewal, my husband & I did the vow renewal on a Princess cruise for our 25th anniversary, and I'm sure they are all similar (especially in meaning). We went with the lesser priced of the 2 options they offered.

My husband initially carried on a bit about how it was a waste of money ("better spent in the casino" was his theory - lol) but I was insistent. Afterwards, he wound up being the one who kept telling everyone about how great it was.

It was really exciting that day preparing by getting my hair done, us getting dressed up for "our wedding", & somewhat funny that morning as my husband tried to get his wedding band off his hand for the first time in 25 yrs. so we could exchange the rings later at the ceremony, only to find out it was stuck on his finger (the spa helped him out lathering his hand with lotion & working it off). Our children & our close friends were there for the renewal & that made it extra special.

Yeah, you already know you love each other & all that stuff about why it's not necessary to do it or just say the words yourself...but the reality is for most couples everyday life can bog you down with paying bills...running car pools...or whatever...& sometimes it is hard to feel/remember back to when you were dating & the excitement of your wedding. As you renew your vows, it brings you back to that point in time of really remembering why you both said, "I Do" in the first place.

It's been 3 yrs. since we did the renewal & I still smile at the memory everytime I look at that picture on my mantel.

As far as your question regarding the aft cabin...sorry, I can't help you with that one.

My husband is tight with money which surprised me even more that he did this AND Was able to keep this a secret right down to the very last second!!! But it REALLY was done so nice that when our son got married, they wanted something small and stress-less, they decided on a cruise wedding.

I am doing a surprise cruise for our 20th (Booked on the Pride for 12/5/10) it is our first cruise. Since it will be only the two of us I think the 385 could be better spent on the cruise (Ie a spa day for her and extra excursion etc). It would be nice if they had just where the Captain did the renewal and some pics for no more than 150, 385 is almost what we paid for the week cruise (per person). I will post in more in a introductory thread :)
