Hopefully, the Ultimate "Riviera Deck" thread... Quiet, Noisy.

Just got off Crown this morning...we had R508 for a 5-day.

Yes, different layout and plenty of storage. No sound from above.

Nice location near center elevators, one flight of stairs down from

Lido.

It is easy to over-sleep but I liked that. Prefer dark for sleeping.

Previously, we had Dolphin mini and Aft facing cabin before.

Wasn't sure if we would like inside...but it was fine.

No complaints.

The aft pool area became our 'balcony', virtually empty at night.

Daytime activities and shows at night kept us busy and so an

expensive balcony would have been a waste.

Since we sailed for 1/2 price of previous 'mini-suite' we are

booking another interior cabin for Aruba cruise.

In sum: we were not sure about inside cabin at first. Cat II, R508

inside was larger, layout is nicely different, no noise from above, great

for sleeping. Will grab one again.

Maybe these aren't everybody's cup of tea...but we were pleasantly

surprised and it turned out to be a great bargain as well as roomy

for 2.

Enjoy.

Maxxedout2- Thanks for reminding me. We just cruised B2B on the Emerald in R515, and I had said I would come back to report on our thoughts about the different layout.

First, we loved the extra counter space. DH had his, and I had mine. The cabin was totally quiet from above; however, it's location near the center elevators meant that almost every night we were awakened once by noisy fellow passengers. Also, the bed is much closer to the hallway, so that likely contributed to the passenger noise in the cabin.

While I was so looking forward to the extra space, in our case it was used to store luggage normally stored under the bed because of a heavy smoke odor in the cabin when we first entered which lingered under the bed despite 2 carpet cleanings. I did not want my luggage to smell like that! Instead, we stored the stinky lifevests under the bed. The smoke issue is worthy of a whole other post, and I will comment further in the next few days.

I did not like the closet doors! If you have shoes at all wet or stinky, beware, because your clothes will smell like them pretty quickly. We took to leaving water shoes out in the cabin even when dry, because they were stinky from the ocean water until we came home and bleached them.

I also did not like the location near the center elevators. This surprised me. But of the 6 elevators, there was one that did not work for either of our B2B cruises. Because they could, a lot of people would punch the button for both the scenic elevators and the main elevators, meaning that we stopped at almost every floor every time we took an elevator. And, being on Deck 14, we took an elevator a lot. I could climb from Deck 7 to Deck 14, but somehow could not make it from Deck 5 to 14.

We are cancelling the reservations we had for B2B in R515 for next year, and returning to our favorite Riviera aft inside cabin. The aft elevators are much less crowded (except around 6pm each evening). Also, the price difference between II and I cabins before final payment is generally significant, because the II price stays stable and the I price drops.

There was a group of late night party animals who woke everybody

up one night as they bounced off the walls but can't blame location

for that.

Sorry to hear about the smokey smells....would bug me too.

Our cabin was fine and I don't remember smelling smoke

anywhere on the ship except walking by the casino one night.

I bet I remember you're favorite Riviera cabin.....starts with 'R'

and ends with a '7' maybe?

We have booked an inside 'R7hundred something' for Aruba

based on some posts here...and I know one post was yours.

So thanks. Always enjoy reading your comments.

We were originally booked for R508 on our upcoming cruise, but the price dropped significantly lower for Cat. I. So that, and based on positive reviews of the Riviera aft insides (possibly you were one who recommended them), convinced me to switch to one.

I will try to peek into one of those "larger" insides at some point during the cruise - if we get on the ship early enough, sometimes the cabin doors are propped open before the passenger arrives.

Yep!;) Although we would be content with its even numbered cousin too. We have it booked for 3 cruises in Jan-Feb 2011 and 7 cruises in Nov 2011-Feb 2012. :D:D:D

This is exactly why, despite the fact that we loved the extra counter space in R515, we've cancelled our late 2011 cruises in that cabin and booked instead our favorite cabin at the aft of the ship. Right now, category II is only $20pp more than category I out that far, but I showed DH how the price of category I and below dropped before final payment for our upcoming Jan 2011 cruises, but category II stayed the same. Those sideways cabins are worth $20pp more over 10 nights, but not $200pp more.

Yes, Cat. II started out about the same price as Cat. I - but never dropped in price like Cat. I did. I think we ended up saving $215pp by switching cabins.

We have three cabins booked R 409 - 411 - 417?? After reading this post I am very leary regarding the noise, can someone please give me some more imput on the noise???? Should I try and rebook 409 and 411?

Thanks!

We were in R411 in May on the Emerald, and it was horrible. I swear the only quiet we got the entire week was between about 1-5 AM. Unless they have moved them since, the ping pong tables are directly over R411, and even though they are supposed to close by 8:00 PM (by what the Princess patter said). They still played them long into the early morning hours. In fact, they drug them over under the lights so they could see better, which was directly over our bed. Passengers walk around that deck in heals late into the night, and sound like they are wearing steal soled shoes, and I am not joking here whatsoever.

But even during the daytime hours, the noise from above was horrific. It really soured us on the PH suites on this class of ship, as we were used to them on the Grand Class where the balcony is large, and they are very quiet. For us personally, I would never ever sail in a PH on this class of ship again. I hope you have better luck than we did, I couldn't wait to disembark and head home, it was a miserable week for us. And we have never ever had a miserable week on a cruise before in our lives. :(

Could you not have gone and grabbed their balls... that should have put an end to it.

Stayed in the R514 room and liked it so much that we booked it again for our April cruise.

We spend lots of time reading and relaxing by the pool and REALLY liked the convenience of its location, down 1 flight of steps and you're there.

Can't say I really noticed any noise from above, and I'm the kind of person who likes a room dark and quiet.

We also loved the configuration, very spacious.

Enjoy!

January 22nd. Western Carr. Leave $1000 in the safe for us please.

So that is why they tell you to empty the safe and leave it open..:p. Cute post. But we left ours in the casino for you.

We just got off the Emerald from R509. This regular balcony room is quite smallish but fine for the two of us. The only noise we had was out over our balcony as it was under the walkway between the two pools. We didn't notice any bad smells.

If you are in this section tell the room steward Joe we said hi. He is really great.

Would anyone care to speculate as to any potential noise issues with R259 on Crown? According to deck plan, it is right outside the stairs and thus that would also be stairs on the Lido deck. Unfortunately, any type of thumping or scraping noise will keep me up. Thanks!
