Should we have a "Ship Compliant Board"??

It seems to me that it might serve everyone better, if there was a board titled "Ship Non-Important Complaints" I often read threads where members complain about the silliest things on board a ship and most the time, the thread ends up discussing something totally different.

I have no problem and actually appreciate it when a member post a legit compliant, where it could seriously cause your cruise to be a major disappointment or a dangerous situation. However, most of the time, they are just plain silly, like the lettuce was wilted in the salad, the water wasn't cold, there was a smudge on the rallying, I had water spots on my balcony sliding door, the shampoo dried out my hair, the casino took my money, etc, etc.

These threads usually end up hurting someone's feelings and accomplishes nothing. If someone's intention is to bad mouth a cruise line in hopes that others will not book with them, it probably won't happen. You will find each cruise line has their faithful passengers, aka Cheer Leaders, and will not appreciate you bad mouthing their cruise line.

I am very grateful for this website, it certainly has assisted me on my cruises and I have met someone wonderful people.

I assume that you would volunteer to be the judge of what others think is:

Non-Important Complaint, silliest things, legit compliant, major disappointment, dangerous situation, plain silly, accomplishes nothing.

Sharing any kind of information on a message board has the potential to help someone make better choices on issues that are important to them. Take from each post what will benefit you and leave the rest for others with different interest. We book our vacation with a companies not cheerleaders, their voice can be easily ignored or sometimes appreciated. If one's feelings are so easily hurt then maybe a message board is not the place they need to seek or share information. My post could be considered silly and pointless to some who are more sophisticated....JMOP!

I think some people here intentionally destroy their own good times by being rude, nasty and abusive to crew and end up getting poorer service as a result. But I still think this board serves them as well as those of us who use it to share important stories and information.

I agree, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and there is always those who don't agree.

What is silly or trivial to you might be very important to someone else. I think we need to leave it to each reader to decide how much (if at all) to be influenced by any given post. I mean, who's going to voluntarily post their comments on the "unimportant" board?

Some people take it way too personally when someone else disses their favorite cruise line, even slightly. Have faith in the intelligence of the CC readers that they can sort out the legit complaints from the whiners.

He dismissed Jennifer Hudson talent as not important but she later went to win and Academy award in Dream Girls;). Other cruising boards aren't as successful as CC because no one wastes their time to complain there

OP is guilty of false advertising - the title of the thread referred to a Ship Compliant Board - imagining that it would encourage discussion on ways to observe dress code, no chair-hogging regulations, no seat saving rules, etc., I instantly opened it -yet it turned out to involve complaints -- still very valid stuff: I especially like the idea of the ombudsman, or judge, to weigh the relative triviality of complaints.

What we need is a schedule of effective deterrents -- to punish the makers of asinine complaints -- sadly there does not seem to be a practical affirmative alternative: incentives to reward the makers of original or truly creative and imaginative gripes, so lets come up with some creative puishments.

When I first saw your post for a "Ship Compliant Board", I immediately thought that you wanted to track ships' compliance with all the different regulations out there.

Me too! I used to work in compliance so I thought this thread would be interesting. It's funny how switching two letters can make a whole different word.

But the American people voted her off the show, not Simon Cowell ;)

That's what I thought as well. The CDC already has done that, I don't have the link but I'm sure someone else does. Anyone can look up safety and health compliance there.

As for ship complaints....that will never happen. Cruise Critic would be 2 pages long if people weren't allowed to complain.

We got a chance to hear her and eventually decide for ourselves:D;)

Others complaints should only matter when it's directed against us or our loved ones. While a cruise line might provide more memorable moments than our spouse, it's still outside of the loved ones zone....just saying:D

I am not really sure of the point raised in the OP. After spending nearly 2 years of our lives on more then 50 cruise ships we have learned that there are both positive and negative aspects to each ship (and line). To be blunt, we have no time for the "cheerleaders" who push certain cruise lines because we have noticed that many of them have very little experience with other lines. It is hard to compare differrent lines or ships unless you have been on different lines and ships...yet you will see posts like, "We love XYZ Cruise line and would never consider a different cruise line." If folks find that their "feelings are hurt" they need to get a life or just not read the posts. Personally, I suspect that more than 98% of my posts have been positive, but we will not hesitate to post negative comments when we think they are warrented. It is totally up to the reader whether they choose to accept or reject either negative or positive posts.

I think that's a great idea. To build on it, we could have also have a board titled "Thread Non-Important Complaints" I often read threads where members complain about the silliest threads on this board and most the time, the thread ends up discussing something totally different.

What other complaints boards could we have? Suggestions, anyone? ;)

EXACTLY what I thought - I imagined everyone marching into the dining room in matching formal wear and people out at the lounges by the pool suggesting "you take this seat - you were here first - or "I insist - no you, no you!"

I think everyone has a right to their own opinions - granted, I may not agree!! But isn't that what makes it interesting?!! :D
