as an aside...hey Intrepid, what does this mean?

 

NORWEGIAN GEM -------- 04/24/10--Venice, IT----- Greece --- 11152 CANCELLED due to EYJAFJALLAJOKULL

 

That, my friend, is the name of that $*%$)%*^ volcano in Iceland that ruined our trip to Italy and Greek Isles cruise. However, in retrospect, we LOVED the EPIC and are glad we went! Now, if NCL had only refunded all of my money the EPIC would have been an even better deal!

Yep, had 3 finals today. Kinda sad that I no longer have my 4.0 gpa, but it'll do. I got an A in Math, B in Chemistry, and B in nursing. I'm so glad it's all over with! Now I can focus on the cruise and only 1 day until we're OUTTA HERE!

I've been looking forward to your experience on board Epic. So glad to hear you describe the ship as "fantastic". Too bad about Manhattan Room and the vibe you got from that venue. I've read many times how the food and service was great and there is no need to pay extra for the specialty restaurants. I usually don't listen to those as I know the difference between the specialty restaurants food and service to the MDR restaurants. NCL ships have always given us a superior dining experience than any experience we have had in a MDR. Now we don't ever go to the MDRs.

 

Can't wait to try O'Sheehan's, especially the chicken pot pie that I've heard about from many posters. Is O'Sheehan's very smokey from being in close proximity to the casino??? I'm so afraid my sister and BIL will not enjoy it in there as they are soooo sensitive to cigarette smoke.

 

Wondering why How at the Moon wasn't so good the one night you were there? I've read there are new musicians since the last cruise and wondering if they are as good as the ones who were on board initially. Was it the crowd that made Howl not so good? I've never been to a venue like that on land or sea but I've read that the crowd has a lot to do with it being lively.

 

Have they added any shade at all to Spice H2O for during the day?? Wondering is folks have made requests for them to provide more umbrellas for that area.

 

Now that school has started for most of the kids here in the US, are you finding the ship to be less crowed with children and teens?? How about deck 15...does it seem more quiet in the pools than what other posters have described??

We asked that more shade be added to Spice H2O and they did put out more umbrellas. However, all the umbrellas are over the tables and chairs rather than the chaises so no way to lay out under the shade. There is "cover" in other areas on the pool deck.

 

We really really enjoyed Manhattan Room and the whole dinner club atmosphere with the band playing every evening. Had excellent service from Christina (Romania), Pearlita (Philippines) and Manish (India) in case any of them are on when you sail. Other than seating a couple of people ahead of us (moved right along) we never encountered lines and we ate anywhere from 7 - 8 pm. One night as we were walking out about 8:15 we were surprised to find no lines. A little later on, when Bernie Martini sings with the band or when Legends does their mini show there was a line of those who wanted to see the show.

 

Restaurants and specialties very crowded between 8 - 10 pm as many guests ate late. Given the night life (particularly Slam Allen!) we found ourselves eating later than we normally do on other NCL ships.

 

Howl at the Moon entertainers change every 3 wks so it may always seem like it's a "new" team. All of them are professional Howlers but some are obviously better than others. The early set tends to be "tamer" and things get progressively "adult" by around 11 pm. So your experience one night could be different from another (same with Second City, depending on the crowd, 7 pm vs. the "adult" show at 11pm).

 

UK - Sounds like you're having a fantastic time!! Keep it coming. Always fun to hear how someone trying NCL for the first time finds things. It's hard to keep from comparing but it sounds like you have a very open mind! Hope you continue to have a great cruise!:D

I have a prediction. Even though you have ruled out the Cirque Dreams show and Moderno, I bet you do both and rave about both :)

Hi Barb...

 

I'm a bit disappointed that the hot tubs are not covered with a canopy as the hot tubs are on other NCL ships. Not unless the covers are still to be installed. I plan to ask the hotel director about that when I'm on board next month.

I was hoping to stay out of the sun but I guess I won't be able to in Spice. I hear there is not much shade at all. Wonder why there are no covers for the Spice hot tubs yet there are covers for the main pool hot tubs. Hmmm.

Since there are covered once by the main pool there are uncovered once at Spice! There are some people wo like the elements!
