A friend of mine from work is on this cruise and she was soooooooo looking forward to Norfolk Island. She loves cruising though, will still have a great time and certainly isn't one to complain about not getting there:)

I think out of all the Pacific Islands there are 2

you should not count on getting ashore

if they are on your itinerary .

1. Norfolk Island

2. Rarotonga

Neither have sheltered bays ,or coral lagoons

that offer safe anchorage and

both are at the mercy of the seas.

In both cases if you really want to visit those Islands ,

book a seperate air and land package ,

as your ship may have to miss the call.

Make that 3 Pacific Islands, as Mystery Island is also at the mercy of the seas.

Hi David, I have friend onboard, e-mailed to say they are going to Vila instead.

He was looking forward to Norfolk, but not unhappy, because he also loves Vila.

Kind regards, Lorraine:):)

Thats nice Lorraine,

They will have a surprise port of call,

(unless they were scheduled to call there.)

There are probably many more, depending on which way the sea is running and the wind is blowing, but those 2 are the most exposed I could think of.

Wonder if a cruise ship will ever call at the Chatam Islands?.

Hi, they were "somewhere" late last night early this morning, but it didn't look like Vila.

there were lights in a long line, everything else was black.

I haven't had another e-mail from friend onboard, so don't know where they were.

kind regards, Lorraine:):)

It may have the lights on Norfolk, as they were due to port there today.

I was on Norfolk from 8-18 Sept & P&O had cancelled the port by late Friday night. The swells were already heavy & were expected to be 7m by late Sat. There is no way the tenders could have operated & the Sun went nowhere near the island "just to look". Also, Norfolk Island is not on the way from Tonga to Vila!!!?! If they were to call at Vila instead the decision would have been made when they were leaving Tonga.

Having done air/land trips to Norfolk Island 3 times in recent years I think P&O should stop including it as a cruise port of Call. This year out of 5 scheduled cruises a ship has actually managed to call once & tendering was so difficult that not everyone could get ashore before it was time for last tenders.
