Stores that carry "FIRE" season clothing

Hey, everybody.

So, I am absolutely wrapping my mind around this new idea (to me) of wearing flats with my dresses. I have to say that I've really come full circle and think that there is something about the flats that is fashionable (to an extent). I still think that Margaret looks fabulous in her heels, though. But, I'm slowly working on myself and trying to change my sense of style and what looks good… for me.

I received a dress today that has really gotten me wondering. It's also a beautiful dress. And, FIRE ladies, if you haven't tried this deep, deep blue called Midnight Royal Blue, etc., I suggest that you do! I've now tried a few dresses that are that deep, deep blue that looks black at first glance. KWIM? You think it's black, but you look closer and you can tell that it's blue? Fabulous. I have to say. For FIRE ladies, just fabulous. It might be darker than the Light Warm Navy on the Color Cards. Well, we'll see. You guys will probably see it going through the Panama Canal. Then you can tell me if I'm right… or NOT.

Oh, I'm wondering because of the style of the dress. I've never experienced a dress that hinders my gait. KWIM? It's not like it's as tight as a Japanese kimono. You know, that tight that you have to take little mincing steps. But, it is tight enough that my usual gait length is compromised, or shortened. Is it more elegant to walk with a shorter gait? What say you?!?

It is tighter when you sit, as well. It's like you don't have to remember to maintain that ladylike pose of keeping your knees together. Hello?!? The dress kind of dictates that… and feels most comfortable, actually, when your legs are crossed.

So…. are these sufficient reasons to think twice about the comfort of this dress? Other than what I've mentioned, the dress fits me perfectly.

Opinions, please…..

Pam, I like the slim cut skirt as they are figure flattering. They also improve your posture ;). I have found that they tend to be a bit warmer than a flowy skirt. Bet it looks stunning on you

Pam, I say go for it! I wore a dress on Sunday that caused me to be VERY aware of my posture and my leg placement. In my world of slacks and jeans, I tend to forget to be as ladylike as necessary for a skirt or dress. I needed the reminder.

I. Love. Dresses. And. Skirts. I'd wear them more often if I didn't have to make sure I have prepared my legs. Yuck. I hate self-tanner.

White and proud.

And not referring to my nationality...

Referring to my glowing white legs! Debbie!! Forget about having a tan. DON'T. CARE.

Don't let that stop you from wearing the skirts and dresses you love. Remember Curt posting about how other countries sell bleaching products so that those with more coloring can be more pale?

Why is the grass always greener?

I will pick up color being exposed...but I don't seek it out any longer. And I'm here to tell you...neither should you!

So there.

I thought you were going to talk about SHAVING to prepare you legs. That I do recommend on occasion...but again...I'm not too picky and if anyone cares that much that have to comment on my stubble...well...get a life. :D

Lol, Anita!!! I thought the same thing...that she was going to talk about shaving. So funny!!!!!

But yes, let your legs be white...it's okay! I do! I used to worry about it to but I don't bother anymore. I realized that all the work to try and use a spray on tan or whatever just wasn't worth the effort.

I have spider veins....a lot of them. I used to think that if my legs were a little tanner, you wouldn't see it. The truth is, you could still see them. Then I realized that I saw them more than anyone else!

Hi girls, hope all is well with everyone. We're going to Mexico soon, so I hope to have a FIRE PICTODIARY up and running in the near future :) it won't be fancy but, should be relatively FIREY. Right off the bat I will say please don't look at my hair. It will be BIG and curly. The heat and humidity do no favors to my naturally curly hair. I hope to make good use of the headbands Anita made for me :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey, Kim, are you back from Mexico yet? We need another Pictodiary here and I'm not scheduled for a trip until October. Hint. Hint.

Here's what I've been working on lately. It's not FIREy, but DGD picked out her favorite color for the frosting.

She picked out the material, embellished the art pad and made the pattern for the "G". She is 6. I made the rest. Love me some Pinterest.

Maybe I should start another thread for these random off-topic ideas, but I haven't been shopping much and trying to keep our thread from being buried until Kim reports.

Linda, are things any better in your world? I think about you, parents, knees, etc. often.

Pam, when is your next cruise?

How is everyone?

Hi Debbie.

Next cruise. Going through the Panama Canal! I'll be leaving around mid-September; we're embarking in San Francisco. Our ports are Monterey, CA then on to Cabo San Lucas; (maybe) Puerto Vallarta; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; Colon, Panama; Cartagena, Columbia. Except for the ports in Mexico, basically all new places for me.

The air flight schedule out of FLL back home was terrible! So, we decided to make another "port" stop out of our travel and are coming back to a few days in Las Vegas. Weird that we could get to Las Vegas on a direct, nonstop flight leaving at a really good time. Las Vegas is only 1-1/2 hr flight to home. So, easy peasy.

I don't know how much of a pictodiary this cruise will be. I know it's going to be very hot and humid. I know that I'll end up with super BIG hair! And I think that my mascara might melt and make raccoon eyes; and maybe my face will become all red and flushed. Yeah, I don't know if I'm going to have a good look for pictures. But, We'll see! I doubt that there will be a lot of people watching, camera-eyeing opportunities for fashion shots. But…. who knows?!?

Pam, have you tried Estée Lauder Double Wear Mascara? I don't get raccoon eyes no matter how wet with that. Bobbie Brown is also good.

Panama Canal is on the bucket list, can't wait for your trip report. Melody

We're back now. I haven't gotten to the photos yet. I really didn't take a boatload this time. We've been to Cozumel numerous times and many of the landmark type things have already been photoed to death! I did some pictodiary ones though. Of course my curly hair looks like an afro on a white girl but, that's just how it is when I'm in hot and humid locations:eek: And, speaking of white legs, mine shone like moonbeams next to all of the tanned and sunburned legs in Mexico we saw.

I made good use of my Anita headbands and my self made sun hat was quite a hit there. I had lots of comments on how cute it was :D and it served its purpose quite well. I was quite proud of my creation.

Debbie, your creations are really cute, love them.

I'll get to the pictodiary soon, I promise.

What have you all been up to?

Hi all,

This is going to be a rather short pictodiary. Our trip to Cozumel included lots of water activities such as diving, snorkeling, beaching and swimming. No real dress up times, just less sweaty change of clothes after a shower after a long hot day :) I only had make-up on a couple of evenings and the weather did "wonders" for my curly hair. It was a very casual water based vacation. We love Cozumel!

I took 4 swimsuits but, only wore 3. The one piece suits were mainly used for diving as they stay put when I put my wetsuit on. I had 2 one-piece suits (1 brown Athleta + 1 blue Bleu Rod suit) and 2 tankinis (1 cayenne Athleta + 1 purple Jantzen suit).

I also had a pair of Athleta swim shorts that I used as a bottom cover up. My-Athleta-green-rash-gard-that-can-be-used-as-a-top-or-a-dress-by-pulling-up or-down-on-the-side-shirring-strings went along. I LOVE it! It's so versatile and I love the color plus it really keeps the sun off me.

Everything mixed and matched with or without your spiffy hat, Kim. I love it. Glad you had such a good trip. It shows on your face how much you love Cozumel.

I've been laying low lately. 105 heat index days are not my favorite times to be camping. It's not even my favorite time to be outside! We have two separate trips planned in October. Maybe I can get some decent pictures and post them.

We used only carry-ons and checked our 1 dive bag with all of our equipment. For day and evening wear I took 4 pairs of shorts, 5 tops, 1 dress, my Africa Anita skirt, 1 pair turquoise flip flops and 1 pair of brown Merrell sandals.

I took all 3 of my Anita headbands and my sun hat. Got lots of use out of both items and loved the colors of the headbands and hat. They seemed to go with everything I had.

My toes painted my favorite color polish. It also matches a stripe on my wetsuit :)

Photos around the island.

The East side (wild side) of Cozumel. No swimming because of undertows and only 1 hotel on that side. It only has beach bars with no electricity. A really beautiful place when the Sargasso seaweed hasn't flooded the Caribbean, Cozumel included. We've never seen this seaweed in all of our trips to Cozumel but, sure saw lots of it this trip.
