Oasis - Awesome - My Picture Review

Aquahound

Recommended Posts

I love you review and photos. I was on one of those tiny Carnival ships recently that was in port in Cozumel at the same time as the Oasis. The Oasis was so huge and beautiful during sailaway I could not keep my eyes or camera off this ship, it sparked my interest to see more photos, you took care of that. Thanks.

I have 3 questions about Oasis

1. Do they still have free drinks at the Captains Cocktail party?

2. Do they still have free drinks at the returnin guests party and when is it usually held?

3. How does the Seafood Shack work? Entry fee plus whatever you want to eat a-la-carte? I'm interested in the Lobster :)

Here is the rest of the terminal. Notice how uncrowded it is. This is about 20 minutes before boarding:

See around the corner to the left, those harder bare minimal chairs? Thats for us lowly Platinum ;) But across the great divide is for the unwashed masses, and gold members :D

The pictures are wonderful. They are making me more anxious for my cruise.

You know, as flattered as I am this thread still has life, the fact is, it's a year old. I just don't remember some details. 11pm sounds right, but I can't say with certainty. Sorry. :o

Thank you very much for the compliment. :)

How dare you not remember. Geesssshhhhh!!;)

I swore off the WJ for the rest of the cruise. Sorry...no pictures of that fiasco. .

I researched and read everything about the Allure before my cruise and pictures of the WJ are very few and far in between. I didn't find any before my May cruise. While its a nice place, this is clearly the least well thought out area of this class of ship. We ate breakfast there after we thought everyone went ashore in Nassau and it was still crowded. The only way we found a seat was to grab a table for 10 (just my wife and I) and we encouraged others to join us. Other than that, the only time we went in all week was to grab a piece of fruit or a glass of OJ.

With five weeks between the Oasis and Allure, I also skipped taking photos of the WJ. For a company that does such an outstanding job on ship design, the WJ was one bad mistake. We don't even like going near there now.

First, to set the mood of my review, DW and I are mid-30s, huge fans of Royal Caribbean, and we love all classes of their ships....small to large. This was my first cruise on Oasis and my first cruise as a Diamond Plus C&A member. I'll try to touch on every thing I experienced, but if I miss something, be sure to ask.

Here goes....

This may seem like a silly question (I'm new to the site) but I see many people using abbreviations such as DH, HW or DGC (as above). I'm assuming they are referring to husband, wife etc but could someone explain the "D" to me? Thanks in advance, everyone on this site is so great and helpful.

Also, GREAT review Aquahound, it is very much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to do it. My best friend and I will be celebrating our graduation from grad school on Oasis in May 2012 (1st cruise for both of us) and reading reviews like this one is really helping us get ready and kill time before we go. We can't wait!

We are in agreement, but that place is always "in the red" in the screens. Maybe for this ship with this many people they should make the WJ 24 hours.

I think it means "Darling", but I suppose it could also mean "Damm" or something else. It's something I've never used. I like the sound of "my wife". I've also enjoyed a lot Aqua's posts including insight before my first trip to Key West. (What a great day that was)

Isn't it so much better when these boards are helpful instead of flame wars? I'm glad I can contribute. :)

Like Bill said, it means "Darling." It's internet lingo. DH would mean Darling Husband, or if in bad text, Damn Husband.

Here's an interesting, yet pathetic note. They are having a problem with people stealing these art pieces off the walls. This is one of the hallways leading to the casino. Over 200 have been stolen.

Wow, with 6000 people, I guess you get all kinds. I don't normally let people, especially those few inconsiderate ones bother me, but someone doing intentional damage to the ship, especially for their own selfishness might put me over the edge. I wonder if they put cameras in that hall. We may see a new message about someone being put off the ship in the next port for this reason.

That is interesting. A couple of nights ago I was going through our photo album of our Oasis cruise and I have almost no pictures of the Windjammer either. It is so odd for me not to take photos of almost everything I encounter on a ship. I guess it speaks for how much I did not like that area of the ship. I did not even realize at the time that I wasn't getting pictures of it.

They did. Cameras were installed with signs warning the area was under video surveillance. You are right. If I saw something like this happen, I would have to fight the urge to do something that would get me tossed off the ship.

Aquahound,

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED your review and pictures.....Wish I was leaving yesterday, however not til January 2012. How long was the ship in Nassau, our friends want to go to Atlantis. I'm not sure if there's enough time????

Thank you minnie mommie. It was a pretty short stop. I believe it was 7-2. They will be able to go over to Atlantis for a few hours.

Thank you very much for the clarification :) I'm going to assume that everyone using this abbreviation is referring to their "Darling" spouse ;)

Just wanted to thank you for all the pics! We are going on our first cruise in Jan and on a different ship but this gives an idea of what it's like. I often take pics for people as we live in a vacation area so maybe I should try to do a few too. Thanks again!

Excellent review and very helpful for our planning to be on board the Oasis in Jan , 2013

Question if we might. Were you able to see everything you wanted or do you need two 7 day cruises to accomplish?

Thanks

Thanks DGF. :)

Yes, we were. However, we were exhausted after the cruise. I would have to liked to have spent more time on board relaxing, like spending an evening in Central Park instead of a show.

We did a B2B on Allure in March and are planning the same on Oasis next March. We both felt that we didn't see/do everything on Allure, so we're glad we'll have some new experiences on Oasis. That being said, we did spend a lot of time "relaxing." But isn't that what a vacation is for??

And they were just little things, so no biggie at the time -- only rode The Rising Tide Bar on the last night, didn't stop to have a drink at The Champagne/Martini Bar (so pretty), didn't try the tapas in Vintages, never rode the Carousel, only watched the Flowriders once, didn't find all the Little Wonders!

We never had any problems finding a place to sit in the WJ. Maybe we just always went in at an "off" time.

Thank you. We will continue with our plans to do a B2B

I have never done a picture review, so I figured if there was any time to do one, it's of the Oasis.

Aquahound, I saw all your pics and they are great. Wondering if you have pics of the balcony since I booked 8632 for 12/1/12..I was worried that there might not be loungers. Please tell me there is b/c it is the end JS and I've heard some 'rumors' I can't confirm about there not being except in the big depth balconies.
