Anyone want to start a new weight loss group with me?

Hi everyone! (me waving) I just got back last night from a week in Vegas. Still trying to readjust to the time change. Not only did we have the three hour difference by being across the country but the time change occurred too!

I'm not getting on the scale until Monday but I did a LOT of walking. I spent a day wandering the strip, walked around the perimeter of the hotel/casino we stayed at a few times a day and we went to Hoover Dam. We ever go again I want to hike Red Rock Canyon, go to the Neon Sign Museum and maybe kayak the Colorado River. DH had a conference there and I tagged along so we had limited time for "fun" stuff. Oh, if you're ever there check out the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum. They have pinball machines dating back to 1948! You can play all of them and the most expensive is .75 a game, no entrance fee. We had SO much fun there.

I'm just hoping that I maintained and didn't gain. With all the travel on airplanes and eating out every meal I just don't want to depress myself by getting on the scale before I've had a chance to readjust to being home.

Ok, so I hope everyone is doing well, feeling better and just keeping on with the good fight. I'll check in again in a few days.

Count me in! I started counting my calories today and really feel ready. I have lost weight in the past but have always gained it back. Recently I tried

The No-S Diet which is basically no snacks, seconds or sweets except for days that begin with an S! For over 2 weeks it was easy enough but then I went crazy! I felt awful about my "failure" again at yet another attempt... but, I know from this latest diet episode and past successes and failures I need to record (it is all about calories) and incorporate more activity into my life. I am a mail carrier and I have a pretty long route but I walk slowly, do it everyday and there is absolutely no cardio going on! ha ha So... I have committed to write everything down in my neat little copy of The Ultimate Pocket Diet Journal . I also will exercise even if it means getting up at 4:15 to make to the gym before work! And... I am starting a new route with way, way less walking so I better get my rear in gear!

I look forward to everyone's posts!

ps I am a vegetarian and at this time I do not eat dairy or eggs... yes there are fat vegetarians and vegans (but I am not a vegan)!

Welcome Mailbroad!!! :D Sounds like you've got a good start and are mentally in the right place. I can't wait to hear how your work outs go. We'll benefit from your great veggie recipes too. Hey, as long as potatoes are vegetables, there will always be fat vegetarians! My downfall... carbs!, I'm like Homer Simpson is with beer.

Yay Shelwoj! You're back! Glad you had fun in Vegas. Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!;)

Lisa, I'm going to make some of the Artichoke Tarts for Tgiving! Thanks for the recipe!

I'm a vegetarian too! I am currently at 204 and I'm 5'3". I am cruising April 23, 2011. I want to be at 170 before I leave. I tend to drop weight pretty fast (I lost 50 pounds before but gained it back) but I also gain it back pretty fast as well.

I work in a behavioral health hospital with kids so there is always junk food around. I also work until midnight every night and tend to snack when I get home. I was at 210, but have lost 6 pounds (in 2 weeks!) since I started packing my food from home and not eating the food at work. Hopefully more pounds will melt off from exercising.

I have learned I cannot take a single day off from exercising or I can't get back into the routine. I try to do a lot of different stuff so I don't get bored. Tennis 2 days a week, yoga one day, dance one day, bike and elliptical the rest.

Good luck to everyone and keep up the good work!

Hi!

I'm trying to use new recipes and cook a bunch at one time, so that I don't have to try and cook during the week when I'm busy or tired after work. One of my new fav recipes is the slow cooked oatmeal that was featured on the WW website.

Just curious, because I love oatmeal...what is the slow cooked WW oatmeal?

Also, my husband and I have been talking about trying to do most of the week's meals on Sunday. Do you have any favorites that you know point values for?

Glad, too, to join this thread. Lost 100 lbs. originally and gained most back. Went to WW and lost 85 lbs.... gained a lot back.....

I, too will check in periodically and keep in touch with you. This will be a tremendous help to me. Just following the WW rules.

Good luck to all of you.

Hi,

I haven't made it very far in these postings, but this thread looks like one I want to be a part of! I, too, have bounced around in my weight loss. Up and down with each baby....Ten years ago, my husband booked our first cruise and I joined WW (for the 100th time!), but that time I stuck with it until I lost 90 pounds and made goal a month before the cruise. Unfortunately, a friend told me that I "earned" this and to go on the cruise and enjoy the food. I did, and then kept eating afterwards and slowly began the climb back up. For Cruise 2 and 3 I did lose some weight, but not much...only 20-30 pounds. This summer I ended up at my peak weight..226# and I am 5'3", just turned 45 years. In August I began counting points and have lost 28#...and try to keep up with journaling, but need to ramp up the exercise.

It sounds so easy...but isn't!

Hi,

This seems like a very friendly, supportive, active group. I would like to join in at least for a few weeks. I've been a Lifetime member of WW for 40 years. Started out in 1970 on the original Jean N. plan.

I'm only a few pounds away from where I want to be, but it always seems harder for me to get rid of the last few pounds of hard lard.

I've posted on several threads but this seems to be a good place for a WW. :p

Here is the original recipe that I tried, Weight Watchers Slow-Cooker Pumpkin Oatmeal. You have to read the comments though. If you use regular Quaker Oats, you'll want to double the amount of oatmeal. I changed the recipe from honey to Splenda Brown Sugar as one poster suggested. I've tried it with pumpkin, which was good but I didn't peal the pumpkin first. I made it again with dried fruit, and to prove what a goofball I am, I thought since the original recipe called for three cups of pumpkin, that I should put in three cups of raisins or close too. WOW, was that sweet! I could barely eat it, but my sister really like it. I also tried the recipe with the sweet potato, and I didn't like that one at all. Why would anyone want to put a potato, even a sweet potato, with oatmeal?

I just found this recipe for Irish Oatmeal with Dried Apricots and Brown sugar. I may try that, but first, I think I'll just make plain oatmeal. Now that I'm aware of the difference between Irish Oats and the Quaker Oats that I was familiar with (you can buy a version of Quaker Oats that are the Steel Cut Irish oats) I think I just need to hunt for more recipes to compare and contrast until I can make slow-cooker oatmeal without a recipe.

It is an ongoing project! :p

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday! Welcome to all you new posters!

txadmin2, just curious, what is JeanN plan?

westmich, your story sounds like mine, 5'3 and up and down. My heaviest was 215 in January of this year and I have been on a rollercoaster since! I started low carb 3 weeks ago and am down to 200. Weigh in is on Monday's for me so I am hoping to finally break that darn 200 mark tomorrow for the first time in many years. I am from Bay City area in Michigan are you near Ludington area?

5326jan, The food smelled heavenly in Chili's!! If I wasn't doing low carb, I would have broke for sure! I knew though that it would take me 3-5 days to get rid of the carbs if I did so I ordered the salad, LOL.

wright615, I am very jealous of your exercise, great job!

Hope all of us have a great week! Cindy

It is the original WW plan that Jean Nidetch began in 1965. We were very limited in what we could eat. Fish five times a week. Liver once weekly. Could not have a pear and an apple in the same day. Had to have a citrus fruit every day. Could only have regular white bread and only 2 pieces a day. Had to drink reconstituted powdered milk. I could go on and on. I was horrible but I lost 50 lbs. Problem was it was not a way of life. It was a diet.

Today, I live a Weight Watchers life, but it is by choice. It is a way of life for me and not a diet. I don't go on and off.

Did you guys here that WW is totally revamping their plan (or so they're telling me at my meetings) to begin the week after Thanksgiving? I'm pretty curious to know how it will be different or if it will be different. If it is all just hype because they have new designs on their packaging, I'm gonna be annoyed.

Today the WW etools didn't work. So that makes today my Mardi Gras day and anything I ate didn't count, right? At least I hope so, cause that's how I lived it. ;)

txadmin2, your right that doesn't sound too good. I am not really liking this low carb diet either even though I am losing. I don't think I can do this as a way of life. I need to learn about portions and when to stop eating.

On the bright side, weigh in today says I lost 2 more pounds so I made my first goal to get under 200 LBS. That feels great. Now on to goal #2, to get back into size large and out of XL, 1X or 2X.

Have a great day everyone! Cindy

Hey guys, haven't posted for a while. I had a cold last week so didn't exercise, and ate what I wanted (but that wasn't much at times.) Somehow I'm down 4 pounds, go figure--this after being on an unbreakable plateau for almost a month.

Whatever it is, I'll take it. But back on the exercise bandwagon and feeling good.

Glad to see recipes being posted, what a great idea!

leftturn's Mom, we sounds very similar. I'm 62 and about the same weight with similar goals. Luckily my husband, this time around, is also watching his weight very closely. Eating out is a definite peril--we live in the midst of tons of restaurants. I think the secret in a restaurant is mostly portion control. And avoidance of certain restaurant disasters like french fries. And make sure not to be too hungry before you go out. Love the roast vegetable idea--will try it very soon!

Well I'm totally flabbergasted, I lost a pound while in Vegas! I didn't track but I really felt that I didn't eat too badly and apparently I was right.

Going to make one of my favorite WW meals tonight; Inside Out Eggroll. It's all the good things of an eggroll without the wrap and deep frying.

Tomorrow starts 30 day shred again and taking the dog to the park. We both really miss the routine.

Have a great day/week everyone.

My stats are as follows:

5'4" medium frame

194 start

183 current

136 goal

Welcome to all those folks who decided to join us on our journey. I think we are very lucky to be in an active; supportive group like as this one is.

I am happy to report that I am down another 2lbs this week...yippie :D.

Congratulations to everyone on their losses this week.

Cindy, you must have been very excited by your milestone!! Hurray for you.

Stay strong and true, but most of all have a fantasic week everyone!!

I'm pretty sure that there is more than a new face. The CEO of the company said it was the move innovative change that WW has made in 13 years. :)

I have had a good day. Stayed within my POINTS and completed my second island with the "Walk It Out" program for the Wii. I can earn 2 POINTS daily and enjoy doing it.

Guess I will start on another island tomorrow.

We tried the recipe in last week's WW Weekly with the green beans, tomatoes and basil. It was good for 0 POINTS. I have fallen in love with butternut squash. We fixed it in the oven like fries. Idea came from Hungry Girl I believe. Really yummy.

TXadmin: Good for you - staying on track. Would you be willing to share the recipe

wright615 : Yes, we WILL do it!!!

LNLisa: Thank you for the link. I look forward to trying it!!

Mamaboss: GREAT JOB!!! You WILL be in a size large before you know it! At 198, this past weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I fit in to some large sizes! We are moving on down!!!

Wendi: Nice! - You are obviously intuitively beginning to adapt to lifestyle changes!

image.php?u=623182&dateline=1287683483 magikfairygirl : Keep it up!

txadmin2 : Great job on earning those pts!!! Would you be willing to share that WW recipe for green beans, basil and tomato??

Tomorrow starts 30 day shred again

I did a workout video on demand the other day called "30 day shred." Are you doing it too? She kicks your butt!

My mom just made me an offer today... Every 10 pounds I lose she will give me spending money for the cruise!! Her and my dad are spending Christmas this year with my brother who lives in Wisconsin, so she wanted to do something special for me :) If that doesn't motivate me, nothing will!

UGh, I put on what I lost from the week before: 1.2 lbs. :( Ugh. I blame this on compartmentalization, "I've been a little bad this meal, but it will be okay cause I'm going to be really good for the rest of this week." I had that mental conversation about once every day this week, but then I managed to forget it when the next temptation came.

I'm going to have to follow Mad Eye Moody's sage advice: "Constant Vigillance!"

Still, it could just be one of those non-losing weeks, to be followed by a huge loss. Thankfully my next weigh in is BEFORE Thanksgiving. :p
