What's Up With The Muster Drill

What makes you so sure?

What equipment are they testing?

I would assume nothing of the sort when it comes to a safety drill.

 

We choose not to attend the one held on the Grand in Feb or the ones held on the Emerald in May or Oct & didn't hear a word about them. I can only assume that they're testing there hand held scanners for real emergencies.

We cruise with a Service Dog......some folks can truly be annonymous and the staff will never know if they saw them or not....unfortunately, when you travel with an SD everyone knows who you are and where you've been or not been!

Otherwise, traveling with a Service Dog makes life more bright and the world safer and filled with more joy!

We try to be the least intrusive that we can be with a 70lb Black Lab and are very cognizant of the folks who either don't like or are allergic to dogs. :)

And, most importantly, she does have her own Life Jacket and will wear it to the Muster Drill, we'll be carrying ours.

We just came back from RCCL and yes, we were outside, and no, we weren't "packed like sardines" and it wasn't a half an hour, but more like

15 to 20 minutes max. It was extremely orderly, just like when we were

on Celebrity 9 years ago, as a matter of fact.

We've been on 11 Princess cruises in between and it is nice to assemble

in the rooms.

Oasis and I'm sure Allure is inside just like Princess. No PFD needed

Another curious question. My cruise will be leaving from San Juan at 11PM on January 30. Any idea when they will be doing the drill for that late of a departure? I know it is required but how do they handle a departue that late and the "timely" drill.

 

Having done thes kinds of drills for years in the Navy I was g;lad to see the way that Princess handles them. If it came down to an actual event no matter how well you train it will be a fiasco but at least they do something. Looking forward to another great cruise on a Princess ship.

Another curious question. My cruise will be leaving from San Juan at 11PM on January 30. Any idea when they will be doing the drill for that late of a departure? I know it is required but how do they handle a departue that late and the "timely" drill.

 

They will have one at a reasonable time in the evening and have a makeup session the next morning.

 

The only difference between them may be that the makeup session will likely be in one location for all those participating instead of everyone's assigned muster location.

Our Sapphire Princess cruise in August was the first one where we've had our cards scanned. Our muster drill station was in the casino. There were plenty of seats for everyone. The crew members who scanned passengers' cards did it after people were seated.

 

On our last HAL cruise, we mustered on the Promenade Deck. The person checking off the cabin numbers must have made a mistake because we received the letter that night telling us we had not been there. I wrote a note on the notice and gave it to the pursers desk attendant and let him know we had attended.

I was on the Golden Princess last month to and from Hawaii. No card swiping but there was a crewmember with a card scanner. I guess they scan some. I was in the Princess Theater for our drill right before ship departure.

this swiping cruise cards at muster must be really new. We sailed on Island Princess in May and there was no card swiping taking place.. I have always wondered how they could tell if someone was skipping muster. They say that there is a secret way they can tell. HMMMM

On the Ruby 10/24/10 we were in Club Fusion for the Muster Drill.

 

They did swipe our cruise cards. They seemed to be very particular in the swiping. The first card reader they used wasn't working well so they came back and reread our cards. They told us they did it so they would have a better record if we needed to abandon ship.

 

Wasn't that long at all. They had all the cards swiped by the time the were finished with the messages from the bridge.

10/29/10 on Emerald Princess - indoors, seated, bring your life vest but don't wear it, cards were swiped, and only put it on briefly at the end.

 

After the past 5 years on HAL (with 1 on RCCL), this was one big positive for me with Princess...HAL (and RCCL at the time) is still doing the traditional stand-outside-in-the-heat-wearing-your-lifevest-while-they-take-verbal-rollcall method. Before that, every line did it that way. So this was my first cruise that was different and didn't require wearing of the jacket through the whole thing.

They might do the next day, they have 24 hrs after sailing to do it.

Well if they are checking they've been missing my cabin for the last 7 or 8 cruises. RCI does do a cabin by cabin search. Don't know about HAL or X.

I know for a fact that HAL does a cabin-by-cabin search. We left very late for a Muster on one of our cruises and the Steward came in and asked if we needed help! He didn't knock, just walked right in!
