As some of you say, Carnival can open any container, and do anything with it that they wish, with no accountability. They can legally open up my aerosol deodorant, and replace the contents with ebola virus, according to some of you. They can open up my OTC vitamins and replace them with poison pills that look just like my OTC vitamins... They can replace my Visine drops with a caustic acid, just because...based on some of the responses here.

not if you lock your luggage. :p

 

and it wouldn't be Carnival - Carnival isn't responsible for your luggage until it is on the ship. It is the same with any cruise line. Enjoy!

Guess you won't be cruising with anyone in the future. the language is the same in the contracts of all the mass market lines.

Our last cruise out of Galveston my husbands luggage was opened (locked with a zip tie) and a letter left saying it was opened and found to be fine as well. But wait..........it had a bottle of rum in it, not in a rum runner flask either. Got a letter and the rum was still there, odd. Liked our luck that day!:D

 

I would've hit the casino with that kind of luck! :D

We were on the Carnival Splendor Oct. 31-Nov 7. Out of 3 cabins (about 10 bags) only one bag was not opened and looked through. We did not have booze but they still checked the bags and put notes in them that they were checked and found to be fine. All we had in the bags were shampoos and other bathroom products like that.

 

I would've hit the casino with that kind of luck! :D

 

sounds like a plan, but with my karma, I woud have lost double the cost of the most expensive bottle from Bon Voyage:eek:

Yes--we here at cruise critic are the ones who make up these rules. Seriously? Read the cruise contract. If you're not comfortable with the conditions, don't cruise.

Ya, some would rather just agree to the conditions, then complain about how they are being treated horribly once the line excersizes any of the conditions they agreed to.

:confused: :confused: Aren't there MANY liquids that are, in fact, not beverages? It saddens my soul, my very being, that my posts are not thouroughly read.

 

It could be EMPTY, being used as a set up or diversionary tactic against the screeners, among thousands of other (liquid) uses for rum runners other than alcoholic beverages.

 

Thanks to those who understand the points I have made. Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind. :)

 

On a similar note, what's the best month to cruise for the smoothest seas?

I have thoroughly read your posts, and your point seems to be that nobody has any business poking around in anything you choose to bring onboard. Unfortunately, that isn't what your cruise contract says. The cruise contract is a private agreement between two private parties (you and the cruise line), and since it doesn't allow any illegal act, it will be enforced. Yes, the Fourth Amendment protects you from searches, but only when those searches are conducted by a government, not a private party. The idea that someone would bring on an empty RR just to fool the screeners is simply absurd. If there's a liquid in the RR, no matter what that liquid is, the passenger is violating the terms of the contract. End of story.

 

Now exactly what point did I miss?

 

Full disclosure: I don't smuggle and have nothing against those who do. But it ain't like they haven't been warned. (I bring on my bottle of wine, and my bar tab - alcohol only, no other S&S stuff - is almost always <$100 for the week.)

 

And I've found that the waters of the Caribbean are like glass in January or February.

 

BTW, if you don't like anyone inspecting your luggage, how do you ever fly anywhere?

Well, I certainly don’t matter then. Enjoy your unidentifiable liquids and diversionary tactic Rum Runners. If your point is that you could put dishsoap in a rum runner, I guess you’re A#1.

Not only will you not be cruizin on ANY cruise line but I'd love to be there at the airport when you explain

to them how stupid they are for touching your private property. Good luck and thanks for the laugh.

Our friends and another couple they are traveling with got busted with rumrunners inside their checked baggage today. They were packed along the sides with all the necessary precautions. They received a nice letter from Carnival that their alcholol had been detected and confiscated and to enjoy their cruise.

 

This really isn't news. I posted about them confiscating booze from checked luggage back, I think, in March or April. Some people replied about the Rumrunners being taken then. So it's been going on a while.

Umm, are you trying to say you're bringing something else on board in Rumrunners? What would that be? Soft drinks are also prohibited in checked luggage.

That's a good point. I thought it was protocol to call you down to open them up yourself. Does this mean they can open my mouthwash without me knowing it? What if someone accidentally coughs or sneezes into it? Ew.

 

Fortunately the alcohol in your mouthwash will kill any germs.
