Steakhouse opinion needed

I think I’m ready to book my next cruise but need some advice on a couple of things before I do. The Steakhouse for starters…is the food really that great or is that something I could simply do at home. I enjoyed my food on Fascination but a good steak would have been nice too. Please give me advice about the Steakhouse.

If your ship has one YES I say go for it.. there are 500 million and ONE reviews about the steakhouse.. supper club.. and if you want to try it do it... if you don't try it once you will never know.. but if you do then you know for future cruises...;)

We have tried the steakhouse on several of our cruises and each one has been superb! The service and the atmosphere is top notch, the food was incredible and the desserts were big enough to feed a small country.

I would recommend trying it, as a tip we usually check on the menu on the ship for the week and make the reservations for the steakhouse on the night that has the least appealing meal to us :D

Ditto. We've enjoyed the Steakhouse on the Glory, Miracle, Legend and Dream and have reservations on our upcoming Legend cruise.

Never saw the point in paying extra for the steakhouses when the food in the MDR was free.

But, last week on the Pride I tried the steakhouse for the first time..it was great and well worth the money. I ended up going again during the cruise week.

Now, the Chef's Table was the absolute highlight of my cruise..it wasn't just the food..it was the whole experience!

Yes, you can do it at home - I've made meals this nice many times. It typically involves at least the $60 spent at the grocery store, a couple hours of prep, a couple hours of cooking, and getting the boyfriend outside to grill the steak and lobster to perfection.

We did the steakhouse on this past cruise, and if we weren't cruising on a budget this trip, we'd have done it again. It's a magnificent meal with excellent service. I mention in my Legend review that it is almost unheard of for us to order a steak in a restaurant and actually get a rare steak - it's usually medium rare, which we enjoy, but we like it where a good vet could bring the darn thing back. The steakhouse cooked our filet exactly how we would have at home. Same price, same quality, none of the work, and a nicer presentation than I could possibly put together on my dining table.

Personally I do not think you will get the meal deal at home as you will in the steak house. (well, unless you get the chicken as an entree)

Even with a tip and we paid 75.00 we coould not eat like that at home for a good steak dinner with the ambiance.

Even though the food in the MDR is included in your fare-- the ambiance alone is worth the 30. bucks. Its more leisurely and you and your mate can have a different type of atmosphere

Just got off the Fascination. comparing the food on that ship to food at the Steakhouse is like comparing food from Denny's to Morton's Steakhouse, or any other upscale restaurant. The food and ambiance are truly superb and worth every extra penny!

I have eaten at the Pointe (conquest Steakhouse) 2 times now and have really enjoyed it. Prior to that I thought I would not do that as I could not see paying $30 to eat there when I can eat free in the MDR. After trying the steakhouse I found out I was wrong and will continue to have a meal in the steakhouse. The food is better and the service and ambiance is the best. Try it you will like it!!!!

Definately do the Steakhouse if there is one offered on your next ship. I am one of those that didnt want to pay extra for the steakhouse But boy am I glad we did! We loved it so much we have done it on each ship that has one. I am sad the Destiny does not have one...but we will survive! The food and atmosphere is amazing. :)

Don't waste your money, you get more to eat, and the service is just as good if you take the early or late seating in the dining room. I was totally disappointed with the Steak House on the Splendor when GF and I did it.

Well worth the money.... the lamb actually tastes like the lamb we raised when I was a kid!

I totally agree - I am a lamb lover and found it wonderful - my husband will pick up a couple a chops (small) and barbeque them for me in the summer. It is worth every penny and the chocolate sampler is to die for.

OK, you all convinced me to check out David's on our upcoming cruise! I tend to think that the MDR food is great and already paid for, but like you have pointed out, there's always one day where the dinner selections are "eh". I can't wait to stalk the MDR menu to book our steakhouse night!

Those of you who went: what did you order? Do you remember if they offer a bleu cheese crown on their steaks?

I had the 24oz Porterhouse both times. I do not remember any bleu cheese crown. I would of asked for it as I like bleu chese.

I have eaten at the Pointe on the Conquest and agree with previous posters, the atmosphere is outstanding; however, my entree (lobster) was not as good as what was offered in the MDR. Not a biggie as the other courses was fabulous and topped the MDR. I was uncomfortable with the overly "hovering" wait staff. Felt like our party could not really talk much as we were interrupted every several minutes. Something else we did not like, was if we asked for soup and salad, we were treated like we were asking for their left kidney as a donation! Where did that entitlement come from--where the wait staff could tell the customer what they could order? The most awkward moment was when the bill arrived and we were reminded STRONGLY by several wait staff that the tip was not included and we should tip on top of what the meal would have cost in a NY steak restaurant. I had earlier in the day asked at the Hotel Manager, what the expectation was regarding tipping at the Pointe and was told it was not necessary as we had prepaid our tips and that would include all restaurants on the ship--Pointe as well. I followed his advice and the wait staff gave me a chilling "hmmm" when I signed my bill. Furthermore, I asked the Hotel Manager if we were limited to just one item from each course at the Pointe and was told that it was just like the MDR--eat as much as you want.

Yesterday, out of sheer curiosity checked out the CCL website and imagine my surprise/relief when I read the prepaid/auto added tips to you S&S card covered all restaurants on the ship as well as the Pointe.

Frankly, the egregious treatment my friends and I received has tainted me for now, which would prevent me from returning to a CCL premium restaurant. Shame on those four wait staff. Please don't flame me, as this is how I feel.

I usually will dine at Sabbatini's on Princess and have never felt guilted into tipping; however, I generally will add a nominal tip as I always observe something above and beyond for my table. Besides someone will ask for a second or third of a previous entree and it cheerfully arrives in front the person--without asking for a tip!

Happy cruinsin' and Merry Christmas.

The food is excellent and DH likes the experience, so we go once on each cruise. But personally I wouldn't go if it were up to me. It is a very leisurely (slow) meal, and I get bored waiting for the next course. The portions are huge - neither of us can make it through the smallest steak on the menu. By the end of the meal it's all I can do to keep sitting there. I'm ready for the casino or a show! Of course, I don't much care for that sedate, stuffy sort of thing on land either.
