Can anyone on Eastern Caribbean,,,post a review here?

Recommended Posts

You can probably get a lot more information if you go to the PORTS section and look for threads on the islands that are on your potential itinerary.

What specifically did you want to know?? I've been to the Eastern Carib numerous times

specifics re port excursions in ea...??Ones to avoid....only DH likes scuba...so need something for me....know you guys took Voyager,,,will try Mariner,,,for best dates next yr....wonder how that compares....;)

We like to sail & snorkel. Best places to snorkel were Princess Cay & Grand Turks. St Maarten; water not clear. St Batt's not many fish. We took the island tour in Virgin Gorda; was very good. Passengers who went to Baths could not swim due to strong currents and wind. We heard scuba was best at Grand Turks from someone we met on cruise.

San Juan; we have been there many times; did not do a tour; in prior years liked rain forest tour and or take a taxi to hotel/casino for the day. Prior visits to St Maarten; liked to go to Orient Bay and sail on the America's cup sailboat. Prior visits to Grand Turks- always snorkel.

This was our first cruise on Regent and probably our last. Late night schedule for dinner & shows does not fit our schedule and was disappointed at service in Compass Rose. First time in 40 cruises that we walked out of a restaurant at dinner (Compass Rose) after having 1st course due to horrible service.

The America's cup was a free tour but had done on prior cruise so did not do it on this cruise. I did not do air tour.

First night at Compass Rose, we were third party seated when restaurant opened at 6:30 PM; table for 2. Our waiter had no clue what he was doing. One hour into our meal we had only received 1st course, then our waiter placed silverware at our table for entree even though I had ordered soup & salad ! Walked out, let Restaurant Manager know want had happened and he did not seem very responsive. Second night at Compass Rose dined with a couple who were wine experts. Almost impossible to get wine served at our table; very frustrating. Third night at Prime 7; excellent service except chef could not get our steaks cooked properly even after sending the steaks back to be re-cooked. The best service and food was at Signatures. Also room service was excellent.

We have sailed mostly Holland America & Princess. In prior life sailed Carnival once. We did a 35 day cruise on Holland America in July/August 2010, called Voyage of the Vikings, roundtrip from Boston. Visited multi ports in Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, England, and Ireland plus Amsterdam & Copenhagen. In Norway we visited Alasund, Bergen and Oslo. All three cities were spectacular. BEST cruise ever !

I am absolutely amazed at your experiences in the CR. I have been on all three Regetn ships and can honestly say that I have never (not yet anyway!) had a bad experience in the CR. Yes, sometimes service is slow - we generally eat around 7pm - but not so slow that we didn't finish in around 90 minutes. And we often ask for different wine than the one they are pouring that night and have not had a problem with that either.

Once in Signatures we had a problem with a Tornedos Rossini that was over-cooked. That is the only problem I can remember. And when we sent it back the second time around it was perfect!

It's all very strange!

I had a bad experience first day on Nav in Alaska. Took them 20 minutes to acknowledge our presence at breakfast. There were staff standing around but we were ignored. We then walked out and got the best service ever in La Veranda.

It was very unfortunate that our service at Compass Rose was so poor considering it was our 1st luxury cruise experience. Needless to say we did not return to the Compass Rose after the 2nd night. We did notify management on the Voyager of our experience in the CR, they apologized, but what more could they do; everything is inclusive in the cruise.

La Veranda was excellent for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

G&G: I think you may have been surprised at how much the service would have improved had you returned to your table after speaking with the manager. There have been a few times when service has been a little "off" in Compass Rose. Once we mentioned it to the Head Waiter in our section, it improved and stayed that way for the rest of the cruise.

I agree that you might have tried CR again, usually the service is very nice indeed. I also think TravelCat is right, but that is unfortunate--you shouldn't have to complain to get good service.

To each his own, you're missing out on a very nice experience I think, at least almost all of the time. I too have experienced a few missteps in CR, but none lately, and none serious enough to not go back.

I agree with Wendy and TC. You should have returned. We only once (in over 75 days cruising with Regent, mostly on Voyager) had a bad experience with service in CR. Service was just slow and wine glasses not refilled, etc. We felt that we were invisible. We spoke with the manager and had outstanding service henceforth.

This happens in restaurants on land too. We love fine dining and eat frequently at a couple of very nice restaurants here. We have our favorite waiters who give us great service, but if they are off, we have on occasion not been as well taken care of. But we go back because we realize it is an anomaly and not the usual course of events.

We did speak to both the Restaurant Manager and his Assistant after our issues at the Compass Rose. They both assured us that it would not happen again. The 2nd night we joined another couple for dinner (one who was a wine judge) at the Compass Rose. We were seated in a completely different area, but still slow service especially with serving wine. Twice we had to get up from the table to flag down the wine steward. The couple thought we were jinxed.

My wife went to CR on the 4th night. I ordered room service. Her service was excellent at the CR since she requested to be seated where Maria was the waiter. She had served us at La Veranda and was excellent.

It was odd. The only night we had poor service in CR was the night we dined with you folk. We did wonder if you were cursed. (g)

As in the words of Christine O'Donnell, I am not a witch, I am not a warlock, I am not cursed !!!

Very strange indeed...

We are booked for our 7th and 8th Regent cruises this year.

Although once in a while there is a glitch, we have never experienced what G & G did.

We always seek out the head Sommelier after boarding and he/she gives us a print out of the pouring wines. No matter where you dine on the ships, they will serve the wine of your choice.

Thus far, never anything so serious that we won't keep coming back..
