Princess Undercover Boss

I haven’t seen the TV show Undercover Boss that shows a CEO at NCL working on a ship. It hasn't shown where I live yet.

However, these are the jobs I would like the CEO of Princess to do if they have him as an undercover boss next season.

Top ten jobs for the Princess CEO (Jobs I would not like personally)

10 Laundry (The heat alone is enough to do one in)

9 Passenger Services Desk (After a problem that effects the entire ship)

8 Excursion Desk after a missed port

7 Cabin Steward on Disembarkation/Embarkation Day (good luck cleaning those cabins)

6 Waiter in MDR on lobster day

5 Casino attendant when the smoking is really bad

4 Medical person in the hospital to handle sea sick passengers on a rough sea day

3 Bartender who works the pool area under the MUTS screen and has to put up with the noise all day

2 Waiter In the buffet anytime there is a big crowd

And

#1 Lead Singer or dancer in a production number

Any additions or corrections

I just saw the show and it was pretty interesting. Sure wish my boss could see how stupid some of the things we do are and take our advise as to how to do them differently.

I was surprised to see how many of the workers on the Epic seemed to be Americans. I thought only Pride of America had American workers? And no one on the Epic questioned why Kevin came from New York (except for the woman who guessed who he was), so they must hire Americans.

I agree that the NCL Undercover Boss was more a marketing ploy than anything else. The CEO wasn't what I'd call management material, in any sense of the word, and I honestly didn't get the feeling that he was there to see how he could improve life for staff or passengers. It was a big let down. I'm surprised that they even aired it.

I watched it this evening, and it read more like an NCL commerical to me then anything else. I think it was one of the poorest Undercover Boss shows I have watched to date. Very disappointing.

This was probably one of the poorest undercover boss shows--but unfortunately I think they have gone way down hill since they started--It seems to me the first 2 were good and it's been on a slide since then--maybe it was a surprise to us when the first one gave out schosarships, trips etc for those he worked wiht--the others seem to have followed the same pattern without much success.

I agree with the other posters. The show really did not capture the true hard work of the crew below decks. They had the CEO do pretty cushy jobs with the exception of being a waiter.

So here is my list of jobs this show should not give a CEO because there are easy or just plain fun (in other words jobs I would like.)

10 Elevator repair man – I don’t think they ever do any work!!

9 Guest Lecturer... Lets see 3 or 4, 45 minute lectures … They are not paid but get a free cruise.

8 Art Auctioneer – I guess your would have to know something about art – looks like a cushy job

7 Future cruise sales – I would like that - helping people buy their next cruise

6 The people who bring room service in the morning – that might be pretty interesting!! Never know what you might come across!!!

5 The person who drives the tenders – looks like a fun job!

4 The DJ at Skywalker’s – there is no one ever up there to complain

3 The person who teaches people to taste wine. Enough said!

2 Photographer on excursions

And

#1 Captain – not because it is easy but because the CEO would probably crash the ship

Hi all

Not sure if under cover boss started on your side of the pond or ours but iy has beeen running here for a few years, it is a great show highlights

are staff stealing from the company, because they are paid so little, telling the boss how much they hate the company, cutting out the staff training and health and safety as it slows down production, on the other side staff going to head office to be given pay rises promotion etc.

Pity this one about NCL has been so poor,

question I was told on more than once that Princess sends out under cover teams to report to Head Office anyone confirm.

It definitely started on your side of the pond, Shogun. (As do most American shows!) We saw the U.K. one where the head of Carnival worked serving drinks by the pool (the shirts were made of a horrible polyester material that made their job even worse and he got those changed). He then had to help one of the cabin stewards who told him he would never last as he didn't work fast enough. :) He increased the times when the staff cafeteria was open because the cabin stewards he met many times had to miss meals as they were too busy doing their jobs during the hours that it was open. You really came away respecting the guy. Last night Kevin Sheehan came across as inept with very little social skills. I don't think it did Norwegian Cruiselines any favors PR-wise!

You nailed that right! I usually don't watch the show but made a special point to last night and was also very disappointed. Guy didn't do any of the real "grunt jobs" onboard. I was impressed with the waitress who recognized him - she really deserved that promotion.

Did NCL steal the "White Hot Party" from Princess or did Princess steal it from NCL wings and all?

I have to agree, all he did wasa give a few employees who spend much of their life on a ship...a vacation on a ship? He didn't really even address any of their concerns...the contracts being too long, or the lack of contact with the families. The fund he set up for parties??? um really? They work so hard I doubt many would have time or energy to party. They also didn't show (or I may have missed it) the portion where he sits down with the other executives to discuss changes....guess thats because he didn't make any changes.

Here's hoping it was just poor editing by the network, that he really did get an experience to make him aware how hard his employees work. I have watched some travel programs that had more behind the scenes action explaining how tough things can be.

This looking like an NCL commercial was nothing new as that's what this show is. These companies aren't going to agree to participate if it's going to really hurt them. I didn't think this one was any worse than most of the other sapfests this show has become.

I did think it was weird he brought the 3 crew members from the Epic all the way to Hawaii instead of bringing the one guy from the Pride of America to Miami, but I guess that was a little treat for those 3. Or maybe the PoA can't spare that guy for a few days LOL. I can see RCI issuing a press release saying "come skate on our real ice" LOL.

Saw the show. One of the worst for Undercover Boss. A real waste of a time slot. If you are "trying out for a job" would you not paint the entire rail of a ship you were being tested on? After all it shouldn't take but a minute and they made it into a major production. If I would have looked at the job the man would have been gone immediately as he showed he did not take the job seiously.

Hope NCL didn't expect to get any new passengers from this show as it showed nothing of the ship and very little of the crew. sorry they lost out on this opportunity.

Terrible show and I will probably not watch too many more of them and will not try NCL anytime soon. Anyone notice the lack of passengers during the entire show? Not many on that ship.

I had never seen another episode, but watched the one last night because my husband told me it would be about a cruise line. Since I'm not a NCL lover, the ship itself was inconsequential. However, I would like to know how this guy became the CEO. I think his personality is totally lacking for dealing with anyone on any level. Perhaps he pushes paper well, but public relations............UGH!

Think of the accomodations they put the CEO in? I have talked to many crew, and only the top dogs have a private room of that size. If he would have been a regular staff member, he would have shared a stateroom with someone else (at least one other), and I don't think it would have been that large either. ;) That episode made me realize just how phoney that show really is. IMHO!

From my understanding the majority of crew onboard the Epic have their own cabin and every two cabins share a bathroom. I have no idea if he was staying in one of those or not because they really didn't show that much of the cabin. However it did appear to be a bit smaller than the studio that I stayed in a couple of months ago.

Princess doesn't really need to send people from Princess on-board as passengers let them know what works and what doesn't (I now call myself a Secret Cruiser when I comment on a cruise).

I PVRed last night's Undercover Boss so when my brother comes across in July he can see it. I agree with the comments of people above - no way was that cabin a crew cabin or anything resembling it, no obvious changes for NCL based on the issues seen (apart from the "skating rink") and select areas covered - twice for Cruise Staff. It would be interesting though if Princess did their own Undercover Boss and showed it on board ship.

After watching the show with my wife, we both agreed that based on what we saw we would not be taking a NCL cruise... especially on the larger ships. It was just too busy. I don't need to scale a wall or ice skate or go to a party with 1000 people and see men walk around with angel wings. Just give me the class and peace of a Princess cruise.

I agree his personal skills were lacking - except with the guy from New York. But then again I don't know how many personal skills a CEO needs isolated in some office in Miami.

The jobs were really "cushy." He needed to see what it is like in the laundry or as cook in the kitchen. I went on the ultimate ship tour and was just amazed at the conditions the staff works in. After seeing these conditions I really appreciate what the workers do to make a successful cruise. And I mean all the workers from the captain on down to the laundry workers.

I have an addition to my list of jobs they could have given the CEO.

#11. How about handling all tha lugguage on embarkation and disembarkation. That CEO was complaining of moving a few sheets for the ice skating with help. Can you imagine him lifting all the lugguage without help.

Hi All

I can think of a few jobs

these are not made up,

cleaning up toilet floor after some one used it as the loo

trying to get a drunk passenger back to his cabin,

trying to tell passenger baby not allowed in adults pool

trying to tell passenger that their sun lounger has been used by another as they were not there and putting a book on it means nothing

cleaning up lift where kid brought up lunch

trying to calm down lady in tender boat who lost it throught it was going to sink want off in middle of the sea

CEO,s have an easy life.

Just visited the NCL board to see what they were saying about it

Very little belief that the cabin was a crew cabin

Incredulous that they flew 3 people to the other side of the country to give their opinon

Comments that the jobs given were hand picked as were the people they talked to

Wonder that only one person knew he was the CEO

Discussion about the fact he called people customers and not guests (and then a lot of comment about the semantics of that)

Very little comment about the White Hot Party (thank goodness Princess doesn't do that)

Lots of people had met Micheal the guy that got promoted to AD and said how good he was
