Ugliest Ship You've Ever Sailed On

I really enjoyed most of the ships I've sailed on (Holland America (where i fell in love with cruise when i was 25), Carnival, and Celebrity). However, I give a solid tie to Carnival Holiday and Carnival Splendor. My mother says the Splendor made her feel ill (pepto pink!).

Haven't been on it (and never intend to) - but the ugliest ship ever afloat has to be the NCL Epic. Its like a joke ship they made for a future movie - National Lampoon's Cruise Vacation!

How about '' National Cruise Lampoon " ? ( N C L....:rolleyes::D )

But it most defenitely the ugliest pice of maritime architecture ever conceived....What were they thinking...?...oh, right, they weren't.....

MV Akaroa, owned by Shaw Saville line.

She was 50% refrigerated cargo, 50% passengers.

I sailed on her from Southampton (UK) to Auckland (NZ) in 1968, emigrating to NZ.

48 days, with port stops only in Curacao, Tahiti, Sydney and Auckland. Now that was a journey with a lot of sea days!

Akaroa was not a pretty ship, but she was eminently seaworthy and took the rough Atlantic crossing relatively smoothly.

Regarding the HAL ships- I actually think most of them are elegant looking. I haven't cruised on any, so not sure about the interior, but the black hull is very impressive IMO.

As for ugly- another vote for NCL's Epic!

Can you imagine if they combined the Epic's bow with one of X's Millenium Class' sterns?....It would be one giant floating box!

Far and away the U.S.S. Hermitage. We were on her for a government sponsored cruise and camping trip to exotic far off foreign lands.

The Hermitage was an amphibious assault ship (no longer in service). The food was good but the ports of call left much to be desired. Furthermore there were no alternate dining locations nor was there a spa or a hot tub and the casino was quite small - wherever we could play poker.

We knew that this was no pleasure cruise when we disembarked at Da Nang, Viet Nam. The cruise director was also very short and impolite as he issued instructions to the passengers as we were disembarking. However, we were armed to the teeth as Marines frequently are and we never admitted how much of the navy's equipment left the ship with us.:D:p:D

Maybe not ugly but most gaudy was the NCL Pearl

Wild, loud and overly bright colour combinations on walls, fabrics and decor and the quality of materials was cheap.

And dont get me started on the food and service......

The Crocero Paraguay, ugly, homely and just plain weird. It is a former US Navy vessel converted into a 55-passenger ship for cruises on Paraguay's Parana River. The ship's ugly is only skin deep. The interior is quite attractive.

IMO, some of the MSC ships look like floating boxes. And some of Costa too.

I agree about the Epic. But, I must say that I didn't think much of the Queen Mary 2 whern I saw her arriving last week in FLL. Her aft is weird and there didn't seem to be many balconies. But then the QM2 isn't a cruise ship but an "ocean liner", I think.
