The new points reward system delayed me achieving Diamond status. Diamond could have been achieved by booking minimum of two twelve nights cruises. It will take minimum of three fourteen cruises in the new system. C and A rep didn't have a good answer when asked. If it was truly an enhancement C and A could have grand fathered those that were nearing Diamond status. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Where do you stop "grand fathering"? The magic number seemed to be 7 cruise credits. If you had 7 credits, you did not get as many points "given" to you as those with 8 credits.

We would have made diamond on our recent cruise, but made emerald instead. No matter, as we will make diamond on the next cruise.

Remember, they don't "owe" previous customers anything.

Seriously? 6 points makes you near 10?? 9 would be near 10...not 6...6 was only 60% of the way to Diamond.

Personally, I didn't come out ahead on the program but I'm sure not going to spend my time grumbling about it. (I was one point away from Dplus)

Welcome to Cruise Critic, since it's your first post. :D:):D Not all questions (many but not all) will result in such a controversy. People with a higher number of cruises made out pretty well in the conversion. Newer cruisers, not so much. Their intent was to slow progression to higher levels. Enjoy your future cruises. :)

Well, yes and no.

Yes it's totally up to RCCL whether or not they have a loyalty program and what to put in that program. And while I don't remember reading it I'm sure they had fine print stating they could change or discontinue the benefits at any time.

No, because despite the fine print there are basic expectations of good faith, that benifits will be provided as offered. Many people who signed up to C&A and subsequently took cruises with the line when they could have chosen the competition may have done so because they believed that in just 3 more cruises (or 2 or 4 or whatever), they would be diamond and get the perks therein.

I'm in the same boat as the person complaining, I was 2 away from diamond, now am 3 or 4 away. I don't buy cruises based on loyalty perks (as you can see from my multi-colored signature below) because personlly, I don't think the extra perks are valuable enough. Heck I could buy the drinks and gifts they give you for less than $100, but I can understand sense of betrayal some people feel.

For me anyway it's not a matter of value, but of prestige. I was really looking forward to the moment I checked into the first cruise where I get the diamond sail and sign card. just before the changes I was even planning on booking a suite on what would have been my 2nd to last cruise in platinum just to get to diamond earlier.:p Now to see that moment of achievement pushed back two or three years is a dissapointment. Sure I'll get the "emerald" card, but it just isn't the same.:(

If you were two away from Diamond you were at 8 cruise credits under the old system and have 69 points after the conversion. That´s 11 nights (non-suite) to reach diamond. I don´t see why you would need 3 or 4 cruises to get there, especially with an upcoming 7 night cruise in your signature. After that one it´s one more 4 night cruise and you´d be diamond in the same two cruises as before the change.

I had 6 cruise credits and before the changes I was booked on the Independance of the Seas 12 night from Southampton (2 credits) and as I stated in my blurb, I was going to upgrade to a mini suite on a 7 day Grandeur of the Seas from Palma de Malorca (2 credits). So you see, it was two cruises based on my plans at the time.

Now, under the new system I have 45 points. The same 12 night cruise would get me to 57 and the same 7 night upgraded to the mini suite cruise would get me to just 71. That's 9 short so two more 7 day cruises to reach diamond.

My planned upgrade was only to hit diamond early, so seeing as though that doesn't help anymore I would stay with a balcony meaning after my 2 planned cruises I would only have 64 points. 16 shy of diamond. Based on my cruising pattern that's two or three more cruises than under the old system. (I guess I was one off in my last post)

Since the change I have decided to alter my cruise plans and cancelled the 12 night Independence and 7 night Grandeur for a 7 night Navigator and 12 night Star Princess. (i made the change based on the itineraries, not the loyalty program changes).

None of this was posted in your other post.

Or one 9 night cruise or one 7 night cruise in a suite, even a 5 night in a suite would get you there.

So the reason you are now in need of two or more cruises, instead of one is not the change in the C&A system, but your decision to change your cruise plans.

Since the change I have decided to alter my cruise plans and cancelled the 12 night Independence and 7 night Grandeur for a 7 night Navigator and 12 night Star Princess. (i made the change based on the itineraries, not the loyalty program changes).

Nothing wrong with changing your cruise plans for whatever reasons, but don´t blame the C&A changes for not reaching the the next level in about the same time when it´s indeed a personal decision leading to this.

It´s always easy to twist numbers to make believe your argument.

By your and born-to-cruise´s argumentation under the old system I could have made diamond with two twelve night cruises in a suite (6 points) right away from 4 cruise credits (Gold). So I guess even at 4 cruise credits I would have had to be considered "nearing diamond status" and be grandfathered.

Never thought I would be Diamond plus! Now that I have actually made it and do one B2B and one seven day cruise a year will be pinnacle by the time I'm 66!!! Kidding really but a guy can dream. Love the perks and little special extras belonging to the C&A Society which gives my cruise just that little itty bitty extra special feel to the whole experience. Nothing in life is gauranteed. So enjoy your perks when you get them and happy cruising! (Miss your candor KO;))

Congratulations on making Diamond Plus! Many here think that Royal Caribbean changed the rules to make Diamond Plus.........and, yes, that is true.......for those that cruised on 3 and 4 night cruises.........it's now much harder to get to that level.

For most of us......that....and we just checked out our true number of days..........and we have been short changed by about 124 days......because so many of our cruises have been 10 day......12 day, and up to 16 day, but Royal Caribbean has just credited us for 7 day cruises.

It does not matter to us..........as we are Pinnacle, but months ago....there was a controversy of those that arrived at Pinnacle......in some 300 plus days, because of cruising on 3/4 night cruises.

That is slowly dropping off of the radar screen.......and everyone is settling into the tier level assigned, as of January.

So.....back to you........congratulations on becoming D+. There are many goodies available to you, and actually you have the same amenities as the Pinnacle members......except you can't wear that awful pin.....that Royal Caribbean sent out.

Actually, mine fell apart, and I'm not going to ask Royal Caribbean for a new one.....but they are just junk.

Sorry RCCL......your recognition program, for Pinnacles......."sucks"!

We have booked cruises with multiple rooms, all for our daughters and their friends. Do we get C&A points per cruise? Per room? both?

If you don't get credit for multiple rooms, why book that way?

Because you are nice parents? :D Cruise points are earned per person, just like airline miles. The person that is on the cruise earns the points. It doesn't matter who pays. :)

Just found this again and am smiling. We just enjoyed our first cruise as Diamond members, as did our college-aged daughters. They're sold on cruising and loved the Diamond lounge!

Hey Kathleen, why did Brian leave you home for 79 days??:D

LOL! I've threatened to leave him at home to try and catch up, but I guess I can't blame him for starting before we met. I especially appreciate that he introduced me to Royal Caribbean.

Yes, although I wish you could earn points for the paying.;)

Have been nervously awaiting the new tiers and benefits with the C&A program. and now that I have been through the website am thrilled with the way Royal Caribbean has made the changes! Very fair and actually better overall IMHO. Nice job Alan and the gang. More loyal now than ever, exciting times! Will see you on Allure for a B2B in 37 days, can't wait!:)

Where did you find this information? Can you send me a link?

This thread is from 2011, when the last major changes occurred to the Crown & Anchor Society. Nothing has changed lately.

Oh....thanks! Have you heard anything about the new tier levels in Casino Royale? I was told they were making changes to that, effective this past November.

I personally don't know much about Royal's players club. However, there is a thread running about the subject:

Yes, gets us all excited, only to realise it is old and not just old but over 4 years old.:(

Why does anyone revive a thread that old?
