Formal night for men

Is is ok for men to just wear a jacket and no tie for formal night? I really don't want to have to buy my 12 yr old son a full suit and tie for just one night.

A tie doesn't come with a suit.

 

And you certainly don't have to wear a suit. A sports jacket is fine, as well as only suggested, no longer required.

A jacket/blazer with a dress shirt and not tie is fine - or even a dress shirt and tie and skip the jacket. Good luck getting a 12 year old to agree to anything. :rolleyes:

I should think nice slacks and a shirt would be perfectly acceptable for a 12 yr old. A sport Coat is nice but certainly not mandatory.

Your 12 year old will be fine with just a nice shirt and tie. Matter of fact dockers and a dress shirt will be fine too. Even "men" can get by with similar :D

I forgot part of my dress-up gear last cruise, so I just went in a nice looking polo shirt and pants. I didn't get any dirty looks or anything. The ladies at the table even said I looked nice. It's more laid back than it used to be.

When mine was younger I haunted consignment shops looking for a great blazer - navy blazer with khakis, shirt and tie. investment was small and Moma got her picture....and yes, it's all about Moma getting her picture!:rolleyes:

OP, a shirt and tie will be just fine. Walmart boys and young men's dept. both sell pre-packaged shirts that come with a tie. He will look just fine.:)

not the way a 12 year old boy grows- unless of course you were talking a B2B. coz by the time they got off the second leg of the journey they would outgrow that suit
