rainbirdbrain Posted January 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2011 I would recommend the Neets Bay floatplane tour. Have been on it twice and saw LOTS of bears, some as close as 15 or 20 feet.
Budget Queen Posted January 26, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2011 I would recommend the Neets Bay floatplane tour. Have been on it twice and saw LOTS of bears, some as close as 15 or 20 feet. They are too early for Neets bay. The last several years, Neets hasn't started tours until the third week of July.

Quilting_Cruiser Posted January 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2011 Is Anan good mid August? We were there mid-August in 2007 and if was fantastic! Spent a few hours and there was never a time there weren't bears there. Check out the link in my signature for pics. It was a highlight of our cruise. :D
Twinkd Posted January 29, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2011 Hi there - we were there in August last year and we went to Traitors Cove with Island Wings - it was fantastic. Saw loads of bears catching salmon at a waterfall and they came really close. We later went to a bridge that was over a river that the bears were walking down. Lots of great photo ops. I notice on Island Wings website that they go to Anan Creek from July to August and then to Traitors Cove for August and September. Hope you get to see lots of bears and have an awesome holiday.:)
Wannaknow Posted January 29, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2011 We will be in Ketchikan July 9th. Will that be too early for the bears and salmon???
BDPhoto58 Posted February 1, 2011 #10 Share Posted February 1, 2011 I'm curious, too. I take it prime bear viewing changes with the calendar. We'll be in Ketchican August 26th, so is one location better for that time of year?
Wannaknow Posted February 1, 2011 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2011 It just occurred to me - we are thinking of the Breakaway Adventures tour to Anan from Wrangell. We will be in both places. Which would be the best port to tour Anan from?

Deb0702 Posted February 5, 2011 #14 Share Posted February 5, 2011 When we first starting making plans for our Alaskan cruise I thought we could do without bears but then I happened upon the CruisingGoddess review & pictures and changed my mind real quick. So we are booked for Anan in mid July and cannot wait, I know it will be a highlight of our trip. :)
