the2ofus Posted February 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2011 Does anyone else get that disgusting TripAdvisor pop-up at the top and bottom of your screen? I am so turned off by the filthy toilet and dirty bathroom pictures that I almost hate to open CruiseCritic. My pop-up blocker doesn't touch that one. The other ads that cycle with it are not objectionable but I don't see why we have to be subjected to that.
catl331 Posted February 8, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I get it as you said as one of a cycle ... but it doesn't bother me. I just move on to looking at threads.
Himself Posted February 8, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I have not noticed it on my page.

schoolinmy3 Posted February 8, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2011 After the last virus attacked cruise critic I have been using my iPad to read the cc boards. I am the only one in our family that has managed to attract the viruses - and it has happened to me twice. The other time I was on realtor.com. So I don't use our pc anymore to read the boards - just in case. ;) Anyway, I don't see all the ads. :) I do see some ads but haven't noticed the disgusting toilet lately. newbie3 Posted February 8, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I get it all the time too and it makes it unpleasant to look at cruise critic. Hope it goes soon....
foureyedbuzzard Posted February 8, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 8, 2011 It's not a pop-up. A pop-up would open in a new window. It's a banner ad. It's an ad hosted by the CC webpage, for which they get paid either by unique views and / or click thru's. No way to block it that I know of. No more or less annoying than any other ad IMO. rochelle_s Posted February 8, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I find that banner annoying as well. It seems I get it every time I first come on to cruisecritic. Hopefully it is bothersome to enough people that they will not click on it. If there are no clicks they will change it but not soon enough in my opinion. Rochelle. Rare whogo Posted February 8, 2011 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I use Mozilla with Adblock Plus and have never seen the ad.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 8, 2011 #10 Share Posted February 8, 2011 My security system has the ads blocked -- so I don't see them.
jhannah Posted February 8, 2011 #11 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I've never seen it. My pop-up blocker works pretty well.
peaches from georgia Posted February 8, 2011 #12 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I bookmark the CC boards that I read individually, so I just click on each of those boards from my list of Favorites and never go to the main CC page. Just checked and yes the Trip Advisor banner is there. It's not a pop-up, just a banner, so I don't see how you could block it. Just don't go there. Randyk47 Posted February 8, 2011 #14 Share Posted February 8, 2011 There is no way to block the ads, these are not pop-ups and are part of the basic CC webpage. They rotate so you won't see the same one everytime you log on or change pages. Personally I just don't pay attention to them one way or the other. Just don't go there. It appears sometimes below the "User CP" bar and sometimes below in the Sponsored Links box between the 1st and 2nd posts of each page of a thread. There is another similar one that appears down at the bottom of a page, also in a Sponsored Links box. What do you see in these Sponsored Links boxes? the2ofus Posted February 8, 2011 Author #16 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I bookmark the CC boards that I read individually, so I just click on each of those boards from my list of Favorites and never go to the main CC page. Just checked and yes the Trip Advisor banner is there. It's not a pop-up, just a banner, so I don't see how you could block it. Just don't go there. Unfortunately, it appears just below the log-in box and I get that banner every time I log in. Because of the way I have my security features set, log-in takes a bit of time. I logged in just now and the toilet was right there. UGH!!!!
dockrocker Posted February 8, 2011 #17 Share Posted February 8, 2011 TripAdvisor owns CC now, so complaining about that ad here might get some traction. Unfortunately, as in cable news, movies and TV commercials, sensational sells, and they'll be willing to put some people off knowing that many more will click through. sapper1 Posted February 8, 2011 #19 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I notice it coming up between posts on some threads and it is certainly disgusting---especially first thing in the morning. It doesn't entice me to visit their website.
Ocean Dancer Posted February 8, 2011 #20 Share Posted February 8, 2011 right now at the bottom of page 1, trip adviser is showing 3 pretty scenes that i have not seen before............maybe they got the message....
GORDONCHICK Posted February 8, 2011 #21 Share Posted February 8, 2011 I must scroll pretty quickly because I never notice the banner ads at all. And since TripAdvisor owns CC, they aren't going to go away.....
