New Years Eve at sea

Hello,

We'll be spending New Years eve on board the Emerald Princess this year. It's our first time at sea during the holidays. What can we expect on board? Are there special dinners, parties, dances, etc to celebrate? What have you experienced from Princess during the holidays?

Thanks

They have a nice dinner where you get hats and horns and in the evening they have a party on deck and in the big lounge if you don't want to be on deck. It's a lot of fun. If you don't want to leave your cabin  you can watch the goings-on on the television.

They have parties through out the ship. The atrium and on deck are 2 of the largest parties. They have other areas such as Wheelhouse Lounge that are less crazy parties.

In the atrium - they had a balloon drop.

We were on the Sapphire Princess for 2009/2010 and loved it The best New Years eve ever for me. There was a party in the Atrium that we went to for midnight with champagne, balloons, music and lots of dancing...

On the Coral, the "main" party was held out on deck (PUTS: Party Under The Stars!) with MUTS showing a countdown and lots of music and streamers and tons of room to dance and mingle. It was loads of fun on a beautiful night with tropical breezes. Fantastic way to ring in the New Year.

We were on the same cruise (hi, Annie). Countdown was done by Captain Nash. Champagne flowing. The crew were all decked out in special uniforms, and the spot on deck where we were hanging out happened to be near where the casino dealers - whom we all knew on a first name basis - were partying on their breaks. A blast!!!

Thanks

We were on the holiday cruise on the Golden this last December. You can check out my photos and narrative on my review thread:

Thanks so much for sharing this information. It looks very exciting and perhaps we'll make being at sea for New Years an annual tradition. I look forward to celebrating with all my fellow passengers on the Emerald this coming holiday season.

  • 3 weeks later...

We have been on Carnival a few times for New Years. They had a special dinner menu and gave out hats, horns, etc. They had a party on Lido, but it sounds like Princess does a whole lot more. On holiday cruises, both Chirstmas and New Year, Carnival serves champagne upon embarkation. They didn't serve any on Christmas, but they did serve again on New Year's Eve. New Year's Day was a sea day and nothing special. It is fun to be at sea on New Years. No worries about drunk dirvers, etc. We usually cruise over my husband's winter break so whether we are at sea at Christmas or New Years depends on what two weeks he is off. This year his break is from December 23 to January 9 so the New Years cruise dates were perfect for us on Emerald.

The BEST PLACE ON EARTH to be on New Year's Eve is a cruise ship! The whole ship is in party mode! Even more amazing is if the ship is near Aruba, Bonaire or Curacao where the tradition is to set off fireworks at midnight - the display from sea is incredible!

That is what I keep hearing, can't wait for the experience. On this cruise, we'll be between St Thomas and Antigua, so we'll make our own fireworks. I hear it's also a formal night, so it will be nice to wear the tux, get dressed up and party for New Years, I haven't done that in a long time!

New Year's eve at sea...did you not see the Poseiden Adventure? ;)

LOL! :D That's exactly what came to my mind. Gene Hackman & Ernest Borgnine, and that song ....."There's got to be a mornin' after .... "
