I cannot thank you enough for this fabulous and honest review. You made me feel like I was right along side you and you made me laugh out loud several -- actually, many! -- times!!:D

Are you on the 10/22 sailing of the Sun? I will be on that one through CAS too and hope to get a chance to meet you. Are you on the roll call?

Yes Tracy, We are planning on the October 22nd Sailing with CAS. I have my reservation slot in, but we are also booked on October 9th on the Carnival Legend out of Tampa. We are most definately going to be on the Roll Call for the 22nd, as soon as we secure the date. Thank you so much for your kind words and we will be sailing with ya soon!

By the way, I laugh all day long, you will love it!

Your best source for info on that topic would be the Roll Call for the April 23, 2011 Sun Translant. I'll really haven't started looking at CPH hotels yet.

Thank you for the great advice!!!

Oh good...TracyE beat me to my question- I thought somewhere in your dissertation you had mentioned Sun in October...look forward to cruising with you. I do have one question - what did you find to do that kept you up partying til 5:30am? I have stayed up late on an Atlantis cruise but never on Sun.

Cruiseguys! OMG loved your review, I do agree with you about the entertainment. We got to see them throwing out all the JAR sets into a dumpster in Lisbon in October. It was kind of sad. I must say that the crew talent show was really good, better IMO than the four girls we saw doing the mod show.

Okay, I really really wish you'd book on the CCL Destiny for July 25th. I feel that this cruise is in need of some shaking up! I would love to sail with you just to have fun. It will probably end up being a stress fest because a wedding is planned and already family members are at each other throats. Gawd knows what it will be like to be confined on a ship with these attitudes.

" I almost died in my tracks, and as she was going on the elevator, I used my arm to hold the door open, to which I said "How dare you Cheap Out on these hard working people!" "You tip when you go to eat in a restaurant, and you ate at least three times every day, In A Restaurant, didn't you? I simply said that "She disrespected the crew by doing that, and the crew's only measure of compensation is thru our generosity". White as a ghost she was, white as a ghost.

Wow , good for you. :D

This is the best cruise review I've ever read! :D

I laughed and laughed.....when I was finished reading, I had to tell my DH about your review. I had him laughing as well. You brightened our day! :p

We'd love to cruise with you someday.

You are a gifted writer.

I so enjoyed your review very much! I am glad I logged back onto CC to read it. A wonderful way to spend a Saturday night...it was the next best thing to being there. I have sailed the Sun 5 or 6 times and remember finding the tapas restaurant much later on. It has been a few years since and I do hope to sail her again some day.

I would love to cruise with you some day. Something about the Sun and getting in at 5am every day...I remember THAT very well!

You mentioned the White Hot Party was held on St. Patrick's Day. Were there any other special events going on throughout the ship? Green beer, other parties, corn beef dinners???

Hey Clay, I saw that you are FOD too and I also saw you started the October 22 Roll Call. I am sooo looking forward to being on the October 22 sailing, and I will join the RC as soon as I get our confirmations.

We or I should say, I, was in the Casino until usually 3 or 4AM and then went up to the Sports Bar for wings and loved sitting out on the Back Deck of the Great Outdoors at night and watching the stars with my Martini, laughing with all the others that were up at that ungodly hour.

We usually met the Early Risers, and I would grab a croissant from the Continental Breakfast and take it back to my room and wake Jerome up with it! Ya know, slap him around with the croissant and jelly.....lol!

See you soon,

JW

Hey SFO are you United/Continental? ...as my first line was Jerome flys for the airline that begins with a "U" and just merged with a "C," Jerome asked me to find out as he used to be based in SFO and now he is BOS.

They had several Green Drinks, and my favorite was a new twist on the Grasshopper. Vodka, Green Creme de Menthe, Godiva White Chocolate, and Ice, into the blender with a bit of heavy cream.....yum....knock you right out after the third one! They did Corned Beef and Cabbage in the Main Dining Rooms too. It was a blast. Lots of costumes and door decorations. The Guests really got into it.

Sorry this is completely off the topic, but I noticed you're doing the transatlantic to Copenhagen. We're actually doing a round trip cruise from that city and we've been checking out the hotels. Have you researched any yet? - and yes, I'm looking for as cheap as possible

I'm going on my first ever cruise on May 8 out of Copenhagen on the Sun and will be arriving a few days in advance with my daughter to see some of the sights.

Location was important for me as I have recurring arthritis probs (ok at the moment but who knows? lol)... so after quite a bit of research I finally decided on the Admiral Hotel as it is very close to Nyhaven and the Amalienborg Palace, shopping etc.

Have you tried checking out Copenhagen hotels at tripadvisor.com? It is a treasure-trove of information.

As for the review, I have copied it and sent it off to my daughter in London, UK... It is an amazing review (13 pages!!!) and I found myself grinning and at times even laughing out loud... Well done!

I'm glad some people still want to dress up - my 32 y.o. daughter can't wait and we will both dress more toward the formal than casual... but that's just us. :)

As for tipping, I have always tipped well but am ever mindful of how hard wait staff work as my daughter worked as a waitress while she was getting her degree. As far as I am concerned, one should not be cruising (or going out to dinner, etc.) if one cannot afford to tip. Historically individuals in this area of service generally get minimum wage and it is our tips they rely upon. I'm not sure I would have had enough guts to call that woman on her stinginess, but I'm certainly glad you did! :p

I've probably flown with him, then. I'm a IAD-based driver and fly with a lot of BOS F/As. Thanks again for the review.

All in all, you will have a fantastic time. Shona Blair will still be the Cruise Director. She will be onboard until Mid May. She is taking the Norwegian Sun to Barcelona and doing three weeks over there before her vacation. Please tell Shona that you know JW and Jerome from Cruise Critic. She will get a kick out of that! Have a blast!

Thanks for your entertaining, informative, funny, truthful, enlightening review. It has to be one of the best reviews of the Sun I have read lately. We are on her in November and your review just got me all the more pumped up to go. We are taking our 13 y/o grandson with us this time for his first cruise and he really wants to go to the sushi bar. Sounds like he will not be disappointed. And bravo to you for speaking up to the woman who wanted her gratuities removed. That is just ridiculous. What does she mean she can't afford to tip $100 per person? We always figure the gratuities in as a part of the cost of the crusie expense and then budget for other items accordingly.;)

Quite possibly the best review....ever. I thank you for stating the obvious, the not so obvious and the little dark secrets of cruising, the gratuties. I am appalled by the actions of the "silvers" and others who some how beleive that they do not OWE this. OWE it, you have no idea how much of a Pain in the A%%, most of you are. Treat people with respect and you get respect, you are not owed it by the fact that you paid.

We are on the SUN in the WC, Coxumel, Grand Cayman, Ochos Rios, GSC. Any ideas on excursions?

Thanks for telling us how it is. Exceptional

I was wondering when the sun is over in barcelona spain or other countries do they switch all the language do they speak in shows ect??

Link to comment

This is why I love cruise critic. I never even thought of the fact that the shows might be changed when the Sun is over in Europe. A different language, now that would be fun. Maybe the MOD musical might be more interesting that way:)

(& thanks missionsblondie for that suggestion of that hotel & trip advisor- I've been finding a lot of info on the ports of call message boards)

Seriously, when we go on the smaller ships the shows usually aren't as great anymore. (But like how could you compare it to the Epic now which is nonstop entertainment? That ship is just in a class by itself.) The JAR company leaving NCL is definitely a loss but overall, I think NCL needs fresh new performances fleetwide. No matter how good, after several years, any act gets stale.

And every ship has their own personality. While on the Pearl or Jewel, there is scarely anyone in the MDR for lunch. All the pax are uptop at the garden cafe. Now on the Sun, the line starts at leasts 15 minutes before the doors open at their MDR simply because their garden cafe is not as huge as the larger ships. And another thing about the sun - their chocolate buffet was in the MDR...like in the olden days when it was more formal. You actually get a waiter coming around with drinks. On the Pearl, its a mad dash at their garden cafe.

So, thanks again to cruiseguys. This thread is a good read.
