CruisingLover Posted March 31, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Hi We will be sailing with a few people (we have 5 cabins altogether) on Serenade in April. I've seen on here people talking about how they keep in touch with each other using a write on/wipe off board and/or sticky notes on the outside of the cabin door (since the walkie talkie method doesn't always work and the cell phone method is expensive). My question is, do those really stay on the door (are the doors magnetic) and not get taken by other passengers (thinking they are funny)? What have you found to be the best option? Write on/wipe off or sticky notes? Probably a personal preference but thought I'd ask anyway :) Thanks! Tracy
galavant3 Posted March 31, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2011 We just call the cabin and leave a message. I would be concerned that the sticky notes could fall off and be picked up and thrown away
Sugar*Magnolia Posted March 31, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2011 They both can work, but both can be taken by that person who thinks they ar being "funny". I agree, use the phone and leave voice mails. Make up prearranged placces to meet at prearranged times, ie: for lunch, drinks, an activity. (Yes, the doors are magnetic:))
traveling1969 Posted March 31, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2011 We had a cruise ship drawing laminated in plastic and taped to the door. *%&$X@*&% kleptomaniacs kept stealing our markers. bigeagle12 Posted March 31, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2011 We still prefer walkie talkie and use the Midland GXT635's which work great on and off the ship. We keep are conversations short and do our best not to annoy other passengers around us. With GMRS you should have 121 privacy codes on each channel which provides hundreds of combinations of channels.
mation101 Posted March 31, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Some ships you can slide paper under the door.
bala1130 Posted March 31, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2011 We used write on/wipe boards on our last cruise. They worked well, no problems with anything going missing. This will also work better for larger groups. I would not want to phone multiple rooms to leave the same message.
Homebody Posted March 31, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2011 We used post-its on our family cruise in august. They stayed on the door with no problem. We had no problem with anyone taking one off. We were in hump cabins so LOTS of people passed by.
Rare Teeara Posted March 31, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Only problem I had was with people leaving obscene messages on my board. Didn't like that so took it down.
workroombee Posted March 31, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 31, 2011 We've used sticky notes many times. No one ever bothered them. I gave a pak of notes to every cabin in our group so we'd be prepared! It was handy and easy. And our rooms were in a high-traffic area, too.

Tucker in Texas Posted April 1, 2011 #13 Share Posted April 1, 2011 On the ships we have been on, there has been a slot/clip thingee beside the door you can leave messages. We've had invitations to various events left in them and other flyers from the ship. Tucker in Texas
eem0924 Posted April 1, 2011 #14 Share Posted April 1, 2011 we had 9 cabins of family sailing together. I bought dry erase boards at the dollar store and they worked great. No one ever bothered them and they were great for leaving notes for each other. I recommend them.
