PACIFIC SUN, is it now just too old?

Recommended Posts

Come on Sandi, :( We dont kill cats with curiosity any more..they are a valued instrument for measuring passenger space ratio's...Golly Gosh

LOL, Scurve, I love cats - look at my avatar! Actually, now that has brought back memories that your friend had a go at me when I happened to mention I lost my pet cat early in the year. Seems I make a good target. images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSP1z5CpmCokI5SPaYxw5-H-bNFvdWl4iXdf_zFOhUl8EdcUj_aIR2PPTE

Costa Victoria will not be coming over to P & O Australia to replace Pacific SUN as Costa Victoria is already assigned to Asia replacing the aged Costa Classica from early 2012 .
either one is still an up grade.

Most people that have posted on this thread are commenting about the other people that have posted on it and not about the thread's topic.

We have had to put up with the usual nasty comments and fabrications.

If we are to contribute to this thread can we please just keep to the topic or not post, simple as.

I have noticed a great lack of reasons apart from Big M's why the Sun should keep sailing and a great deal of reasons why it should be replaced.

The name of the thread is:

PACIFIC SUN is it now just too old?

If you do not wish to post about it let it slip to the bottom of the list and we can assume that no one thinks it is too old.

Wildweston, in an ideal world you would be right about having this discussion over on the P&O Aust forum but I have tried criticising P&O before over there and the result was worse than this, you would have thought I'd just killed their favourite pet.

Paradoxically speaking, I feel this criticism is positive, as P&O might be thinking that the type of cruising experience the Pacific Sun gives is all that us Aussies want. Well maybe it is, if the P&O Australia forum is anything to go by.

As I said in my original post, just wondering what you all think.

I think it is important because if we are to get more people interested in cruising in Australia, (selfishly speaking especially Perth) we need their first experience to be a lot better than the Sun.

The more cruisers we have, the better the ships will be and the lower the prices.

Speaking as an outsider. The Sun too old or not, she will be replaced only by an equally old or slightly less so model. In Jacksonville Fl where I live (the "other" Sunshine State) we have the Carnival Fascination. not much to write home about but is a damned good replacement for the Carnival Celebration. The lines in general and Carnivore's children in particular tend to send their oldest ships to the newest and most farflung ports reasoning that the locals will be so damn glad that they got a ship at all that they won't look at how long in the tooth she is. Pacific Sun is not going to Fort Lauderdale any time soon and as long as she is making revenue she will stay right where she is until the next fleet upgrade pushes in a slightly less old vessel.

Please don't feel you're an outsider Moyaroo - you're welcome here. Most of us are happy cruisers and like healthy debate and a GOOD joke!

Yes, it seems to be the case that we do get older ships here, however I have seen nothing that makes me want to stop travelling in them. Can't speak for the Pacific Sun as I have not travelled on it, but I know several very well-travelled people who are very fond of the ship, the staff etc. and haven't found it to be a smelly old tub.

My thought is that when they do sell the P Sun (and they have already changed her registration from London to Malta!!!) Pullmantur will take her on. Don't think she is ready for Alang yet.

I just wish to point out a couple of issues Sludge, yes I think Cheryl is correct and this should have been posted over on the P&O board but that doesn't really matter. I can't understand your response, in case you haven't noticed, exactly the same members post here as there so how you would expect different comments by posting here instead is a bit of a mystery:confused:

100% agreement UNLESS people like me make themselves heard!

I do not want our country to be considered a "far flung port". Why should we have to pay top dollar, AND WE DO, to cruise on these cast offs.

This is a great, wealthy country and for that reason we should have the best.

The old "cultural cringe" is alive and kicking amongst the older section of this forum and there is the inference that we must not rock the boat because these cruise companies are kind enough to let us cruise from here.

When will these older people realise that it is not a personal thing, if you analyse it, I am in there batting for them ultimately.

Thanks for your input,

Paul

:( So I am not allowed to speak about cats anymore Sludge..even though swinging a cat around your head is a great/best way to work out passenger space ratio's :)

I do agree to be serious for one moment ..that one old ship out of Western Australia does not rate for a total cruise experience no matter who it's owned by...esp considering what ports and sights can be seen in W.A..granted there would need to be more work need on some of the ports i:e Broome. Not to mention the lack of tours to make it a going concern.

Just look at the west and east coast of Mexico cruise companies running on both sides of the coast.(well in between the Mexicans shooting everyone and everything)

No worries mate,

Another really good reason now for cruising here in WA is the fact that our nanny state (or Packer) government has relaxed the casino laws. Up to 6 months ago the cruise ships had to close the casinos as soon as they entered WA waters.

I for one am happy to keep the Pacific sun around for quite a while longer. Where else can you have a 10 night holiday all inclusive for 2 adults and 2 children for $1200!!! Yes, you read right, $1200!!! I don't have to cook, clean or make my bed, I get entertained and so do the kids, I get to sit on tropical islands for 4 days and I get to meet new friends. So what if it's on a 3 star ship. Like I said, where else can you score a 10 night holiday for a family of 4 for $1200!!!!

When we sailed on her, on the first "FORMAL" night we dressed up in our tuxes and the ladies were in their best dresses and there were people being served in the main dining room in shorts and sandals!

Oh God, I can just imagine. That's why I've never cruised from Brisbane on a P&O boat.

If I want to watch someone stuff food into their face, whilst they sit there dressed in shorts and thongs, I can go to the local shopping centre and check out the food-court.

I don't feel inclined to pay money for the privilege.

You'd better watch out, the P&O gang will be accusing you soon of being the same person as me and Scurvy dog!

Don't believe all you read here, Whitemarsh. :D I've not seen anyone in the dining room on ordinary nights in shorts and thongs, let alone a formal night. Most of us are quite civilised and enjoy dressing for dinner. I have heard several times of people being turned away in dressy shorts.

well you and scurvy dog both come from WA, so maybe you are the same person. In fact your first post on here was just to try and change the name of this board. Now you have your wish.

Kasey do you really think if I was going to make up an alias I would actually say that he or she was from the same state?

I am sure that the people that control this site would be able to check ip addresses anyway.

My first post on the CC was in 2006 long before a lot of these other people joined.

Mate don't give the game away about us being the same person!

This is obviously a normal reaction from the P&O gang, if 2 people agree, they must be the same person.
