samnewbie Posted May 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2011 Thanks for posting , I love seeing where all the dam ships are :D The Rotterdam docked in Liverpool early yesterday at 06:14 and did not leave until 23:40... so much later than the listed 17:00. We had planned to go and see her leave Liverpool but had unexpected visitors so we did not make it, probably a good job as we would of had a very long wait! It is currently tracking as heading for Cherbourg arriving on the 30th at 08:00. I wonder what has happened to the Ilfracombe port of call? I will be interested to see if any of the passengers shed light on this on their return home. Sam :)
Rare erewhon Posted May 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2011 Sam, The Rotterdam is due to call at Ilfracombe on Sunday 29th May. At www.visit.ilfracombe.co.uk on the front page of the site, is a link to the entertainment programme the good people of Ilfracombe are providing for the Rotterdam passengers and crew. samnewbie Posted May 29, 2011 #9 Share Posted May 29, 2011 Found this webcam for Ilfracombe.www.ilfracombewebcam.com Hiya , Thanks for the link. Yes i had looked at what Ilfracombe had planned when i saw last night the ship appeared to be skipping the port. Just checked webcam and I can not see the Rotterdam and marinetraffic show her on her way to Cherbourg. All very odd. I wouldnt mind, i am not even due to sail her but this has made me really curious! Sam :)

Sam :) We set out this morning with a friend who was due to meet friends that are onboard only to recieve a phonecall from them to say the ship was skipping ilfracombe as it was considered unsafe to tender ashore and therefore they were continuing to Cherbourg. We were not surprised by such news as Ilfracombe does not have a cruise terminal as it is more of a small fishing port on the North Devon coast and therefore cruiseship passengers would have to be tendered in and then they have to climb up old stone steps which would be wet and slippery at the best of times not an ideal cruise port. Hiya, Ahhh i did wonder if it was a safety issue. I was curious especially with the very late departure from Liverpool too. Yes Ilfracombe is such a pretty place , have visited there a couple of times when we were on holiday in the area and I must say I was surprised it was to be visited by a cruise ship. What a shame though. Thanks for clearing that up :D Sam :)
Rare erewhon Posted May 29, 2011 #12 Share Posted May 29, 2011 Shipscat66, Thank you for your explanation. A shame the visit had to be abandoned, after all the plans by the townsfolk to entertain the visitors. Ilfracombe is a very pretty part of the country. From the webcam looked as though there had been rain.
