vplsh Posted April 24, 2012 #201 Share Posted April 24, 2012 We did the workshop on Eclipse a couple of weeks ago. We were only going to get one set of glasses, but they were so nice and really did what they were supposed to do that we went with 2 sets. They arrived the other day and one of the Chardonnay glasses was broken. I called yesterday and they said they'd send a replacement. Will let you know! miched Posted April 24, 2012 #202 Share Posted April 24, 2012 All these positive remarks are good to hear. :) We leave on Monday (Silhouette) and have signed up for it. I guess we'll find out on-board when and where it will take place? Connie When on the Silhoutte it was held in Blu. I think it all depends on how many sign up. We did a wine siminar earlier and it was in the dining room. It was a fun time and interesting but we decided against buying the glasses. I don't remember any mention about applying the $15 towards the purchase. I also heard some rumors about that if you bought a set they would serve your wine in a Reidel glass for the rest of the cruise. I think some think that the regular wine glasses are Reidel. We were served wine at a lounge and a couple next to us asked we were keeping the glasses. I looked at him and said no that we hadn't planned on it as they are not to keep. He said we should take them because they are Reidel and if we didnt want them he did.  People are always looking for something for nothing and I guess that is why they would think that they should get a set for a $15 seminar. . nuekruizer Posted April 25, 2012 #203 Share Posted April 25, 2012 I would like to book the Reidel workshop before my cruise, but they do not specify the date or time in advance. So how do you know if this will conflict with plans/excursions you have already made?? Is it generally on a certain day or what? Or can you easily book this once you are onboard? Confused.

Confused. Don't worry ... it takes place on a sea day. It will appear in the daily schedule. You will also get your invitation (it will be in the mail bracket outside your door). Ours was on a sea day during the return trip to Bayonne. It was a wonderful experience - very informative and a lot of fun! Connie
texkan Posted April 25, 2012 #205 Share Posted April 25, 2012 I've been following this thread for several weeks. Just checked again and it still says $82.50 and when I click to purchase, the price is $87 per person. Has anyone seen this reduced price on cruises for next year, or are they limited, so far, to this year? Just off Equinox, did the workshop and the price was $87.

Confused. All of the wine seminars/workshops can be and should be booked on board for the reason you are stating. They are always solicting them. They don't get sold out because they will hold it in a place to accomodate it. The times are listed in the daily paper, and there will be plenty of handouts with the schedule and price when you get on board plus being delivered to your cabin. You will find many activities overlapping and you will have to chose what you decide is more important. Good thing is if you miss something it is a good excuse to cruise again. nuekruizer Posted April 26, 2012 #207 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Thanks guys for that information! Now I won't book before my cruise and will wait to book when advertised on board. :)
Jade13 Posted April 26, 2012 #208 Share Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) Just off Equinox, did the workshop and the price was $87. That is what we paid on Eclipse two years ago and received the Reidel tasting glasses to take home. We also had our wine served in Reidel for the rest of the cruise. It should be booked on board from your wine steward so he gets the commission (and brings your wine each evening in Reidel - although I am not sure they still do that). My husband and I did the workshop 2 years ago on the Infinity. We paid about $84 or $87 dollars each and took a set of glasses home with us. We purchased our package from home as I did not realize that the wine steward would receive a commission if we booked it from him on board. He did tell us about it though and we told him we were already booked. After the workshop, on one night only, after I mentioned how I really liked how the wine tasted so different in a Reidel glass, he went and got 2 for us to use at dinner. He said those glasses were not available anymore for use in the MDR because of breakage cost. I heard they were used in the specialty restaurant, but I am not sure as we never ate there. casandbliz Posted January 6, 2013 #210 Share Posted January 6, 2013 We will be on the Equinox in March 2013, and are thinking about this workshop? Typically, we try to reserve and pay for things like this prior to the cruise, but after reading all of the posts, is it worthwhile to wait and reserve it through our sommelier? I understand he/she will get the commission, but other than that, any other perks? Some posts have said you get Reidel glasses at dinner, others, not....If you reserve online prior to the cruise, do you just tell your sommelier that you have done so?? Lab Guy Posted January 6, 2013 #211 Share Posted January 6, 2013 In Sept we missed the Reidel workshop and asked our sommelier if it would be offered again. He said he'd get back to us if another one was offered. Our phone rang one morning and he asked if we would like to participate in a Reidel workshop in Cellar Masters at 1:00 that afternoon. We told him we had a wine and cheese pairing booked for 2:00.He actually came down and escorted us to the wine and cheese pairing after our private Reidel glass workshop.Talk about service!this was on the Summit in Sept. 2012.We love our wine glasses.Just to warn you if you ever get those glasses there is no going back! scanditaly Posted January 6, 2013 #212 Share Posted January 6, 2013 I hope my answer/response offers some clarity. Yes, if you appreciate drinking your wine variety of choice with it's specifically constructed Riedel glass, then yes, by all means, purchase the glasses and take the workshop. If you are not certain, then it is still a nice thing to try and experiment with and see if it works for you. Here is what we did: take this with a grain of salt or your favorite mineral of choice. 1. We purchased the tasting kits on the day of embarkation; thus signing up for the workshop. We immediately took possession of our stemware, and were able to utilize it in our stateroom. 2. We also purchased three bottles of wine from the wine cellar shop/venue 3. The Wine steward then notified our dining table sommelier to provide us with the appropriate stemware with either our own wine, or a newly purchased bottle or one of the pre-purchased bottles, or even just a single purchased glass of wine. The stemware aligning with each of our favorite varietals was usually on the table when we arrived at our table each night. 4. On the last day before debarkation, we had already arranged to bring back the two boxes of stemware, give them back, and then the staff gave us the coupons/forms for us to pay the $15 per set to have a new set mailed home to us. Then, we did not have to transport them home ourselves. 5. The workshop itself was very informative and we were able to taste for ourselves how the different acid and tannin components were heightened or suppressed depending on the stemware used. I really love to talk about wine, but more than that, I adore drinking it! Really hope this helps, OP, and please ask if you have any more questions

gordylad Posted February 19, 2013 #215 Share Posted February 19, 2013 we did the wine workshop It was enjoyable but for the cost I'd say it was just okay. You can take the glasses with you or order your glasses when you come back on the website cost for shipments is around $25 Within I'd say a month of using my glasses the chardonay glass broke at the stem [my fault when sitting them down]. Be careful as they are very thin.
pkw Posted February 19, 2013 #216 Share Posted February 19, 2013 We did the workshop & loved it - the only thing we wished we had realised before doing it is that they only ship the glasses to certain places and Australia was not one of them so we had o work out how to carry 2 quite bulky boxes with us until we flew home. Also, do you know if you get to use Riedel during the cruise if you do purchase the glasses? If you pay the 87.00 charge? It seems to be up for discussion. Some say yes and some say no:)
