Rain on your cruise

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a cruise where is rained most of the time? We are leaving Saturday and it does not look good. Any Suggestions? We are going on the Oasis.:(

It doesn't look good. Today's the first day of Hurricane season and we already had our first tropical depression move through.

Ive been on 8 cruises and I did have one cruise that, well...was a wash out. We left the port and it was gloomy. We got to Nassau the next morning and it was so bad I didnt get off the ship. Rain was so hard, wind was so rough and it was nonstop. Next day was coco cay...we missed it. Next day was a sea day so we ended up not getting off the ship at all.

Its just one of the chances you take but dont let that stop you. I have learned that no matter what the weather is today tomorrow you just dont know so just hope for the best and even a rainy day at sea can be fun. Try not to focus on what the weather man says, dont even watch the weather. Im sure the captain will do his best to go where the weather is better if he can. At port, there really isnt much he can do about that but your cruise is a week long. Im sure your going to have some good days so dont worry, just get excited about the cruise and enjoy it.

About 10 years ago, neighbors went on a Carnival cruise and the weather forced them to stay in port in San Juan for 3 days. They were given half off on another cruise AND were refunded half of the rained out cruise. The cruise line had a "boatload" of $$$$ flown to San Juan and passengers were given their refunds in cash. The most secure location for all that money was the casino, so many of the passengers picked up their $$$ and then promptly gambled it away. Pretty smart move by Carnival.

Thanks for your wisdom. I like how you said "don't even watch the weather". I think I will take your advice and won't worry about it.

I have had too much of that "Liquid sunshine" here in Pennsylvania.

We in Vancouver are breaking records for cold and rain and no Spring!! We too have had enough Liquid Sunshine, bring on Just the sunshine now, please!!!:D

On Oasis they provided big umbrellas to walk in Central Park, we had some rain. They had drop off spots at the door to the Park.

Where in Pennsylvania do you live!? It's been over 90 degrees and sunny here for the past few days.

I wouldn't let rainy days spoil your cruise. The Oasis is awesome, even in the rain.

It rained on all but the last sea day on our Radiance cruise back in February. We made the best of it. We hung out inside and did some of the activities. Our balcony also had an overhang, so that was nice. I was still able to sit out there and have a few stogies.

At least it's warm rain... Yes, I've had cruises where it rained. Sometimes I didn't go on planned excursions because of it (I didn't want to mountain bike in pelting rain and 50 degrees, thank you very much), but I survived!:)

If you are checking the 10 day forecast for your port of calls and it is calling for chances of showers. Well welcome to the Caribbean. Every time we sail the Caribbean the ten day forecast calls for chance of showers at all the ports. Usually there are two days that has some serious rain and the rest are partly cloudy and lots of sunshine.

I looked at the 14 day forecast and RAIN, RAIN and MORE RAIN! It has not rained here in NM for about 4 months, I might melt!

Hey! Sunshinesusie, we'll also be on the Oasis next week. It is such a great ship, I'm sure there will be plenty to do inside if the elements keep us there. I've never been on a cruise that was a wash out, so maybe we'll have that experience as well. Mainly just hoping it will be intermittent showers and not downpours!

Last year when we cruised the Southern Caribbean route on the Serenade, I was so proud because we got the cheapest price. Well, I live in Florida so I should know that I picked the Peak of the Hurricane Season. Our entire cruise we were being stalked by a hurricane. The captain re-routed us some to try to avoid it and fwe did for the most part. It was on the Eastern side of the islands we visited. We stayed to the West. Anyway, we did have a lot of rain and it was pretty bumpy at times but we still enjoyed every minute of it. Just bring some rain gear just in case and go with a positive attitude. It is still better than work!:D

Anytime I've been in the Caribbean, though its usually in May, you may see some rain, but it doesn't dominate the day.

Most times in the Caribbean Islands, It will rain for just a short time. Can be a torrencial downpour for a short time, then be sunshine. The ships do have lots of things to do inside if it is rainy. Like the others have said, go prepared for rain, and enjoy. Look for the worst, and hope for the best! If you don't want to go in the rain, I will gladly go in your place! :D

On our cruise on the Oasis we got rain every day except when we were in Costa Maya (which was a beautiful day).

On the Oasis there are plenty of things to do besides hang out on the pool deck, so we were never bored. We played some trivia, made some jewelery and snuck out on deck ever time the sun peaked its head out!

Hey Susie....out of all my cruises I have never been rained on in a port stop yet...other than embarkation in Miami and FLL....I have never even encountered more than 10-15 minutes of rain total during a sailing and have been chased by tropical storms...let's hope my good luck streak holds:D:cool:

We were on the Hawaii cruise in January, EVERYONE told me to expect rain, it called for rain on the compass EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!! In the end, we didn't see a single drop till day two of the trip home.

Go prepared, grab a poncho, wear your crocs and have fun....

You're gonna loooove it!

Well, not counting the Alaska cruise and the Inside Passage we've been pretty lucky. Of course going up to Alaska ir rained most of every day. We did get some rain every day (but not all day) on the Transatlantic cruise ocean crossing part but in April that's sort of to be expected and did not stop us from doing what we wanted. Even mini-golf in the rain. But when we got to Ireland, England and France they were having an early heatwave and it was fantastic - until London when a cold front came through with thunderstorms, but that was post-cruise.

We got very lucky in So. Carib. in Feb. Only rained once the whole time but it was as we were re-boarding at Dominica. Everyone waiting in line got soaked but the crew did expedite the security checking to move it along. Would have been a good day to smuggle some rum. ;)

Besides rain is good, it sort of inhibits the chogs.

On one 5 night Bermuda, heavy downpours, outer decks closed the whole way down. Arrive in port, lighter rain, ventured out, sudden downpour with sideways rain and wind, back to ship for lunch, went back out, sunny the rest of the trip. Never give up!
