aeonix01 Posted June 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2011 I don't wear a watch, I use my cell to tell time. How do I get my cell to show the proper time when on the ship? I know at different points, you're asked to set your time ahead or set them back an hour or more. I use an android smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S). Shomari Posted June 16, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2011 ... You should have a world clock feature on there... Just add the one (or a few) of the cities in the time zone you're travelling to, and add you're home city... Then you'll always know the difference. I have the same issue, so I've already loaded up the iPhone... :D

critterchick Posted June 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2011 You should be able to turn off the automatic time change function in your settings. Just manually change it when the ship tells you to.:)
SeaBaby Posted June 16, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 16, 2011 When we cruise in the Caribbean, we are usually told to keep ship's time, regardless of local time. This means there can be a difference of one hour on some islands. Make sure you know if that is the case on your cruise and synchronize your watch accordingly. Rare Keith1010 Posted June 16, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2011 There are going to be times you have problems with going with the world time. I would get a cheap watch for traveling. Keith
infoprof56 Posted June 16, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2011 There are going to be times you have problems with going with the world time. I would get a cheap watch for traveling. Keith I usually buy a ten dollar watch at the airport or ship gift shop. One issue you may not have considered with a smart phone is the cost of keeping it on at sea. You should set it to not send or receive data or you may be facing an enormous bill when you get home because of roaming charges. Even ordinary incomming text messages add up quickly when you're at sea. I turn off the cell when cruising.
paul929207 Posted June 16, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 16, 2011 Just be careful with the automatic time zone function. The ship is not always on local time.
mapsmith Posted June 16, 2011 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2011 Walmart and Target usually have a cheap watch for about $6. Also good for taking to the beach. And if you lose it? No major loss.
Rare John Bull Posted June 16, 2011 #10 Share Posted June 16, 2011 Been there :) Done that :) Screwed-up  Different cellphones, different features, different auto-changes. Bit of a minefield for technophobes. Plus ship's time/local time aren't always the same. Mebbe even the cellphone mast you receive from is in a different time zone (I know folk in Dover sometimes used to get a signal from France, just 20 miles away. Incorrect time display was the least of their worries when their airtime bill arrived :D) Simple answer is not to rely on your cellphone. And that's doubly so if you use it as an alarm clock, cos there's times you sail thro' time zones while you're in the land of nod. sherilyn70 Posted June 16, 2011 #11 Share Posted June 16, 2011 Tap on Menu, go to Settings. Go to Date & Time, uncheck Automatic. You can set the time manually from there.
