Yes but this was with Voyager class many years ago. With Allure and Harmony he was not the first Captain who went to the yard and delivered the ship.

I recall seeing here a while back (I think posted by Bob) that Captain Johnny took out all Voyager Class ships back in the day and then stayed on Mariner. So maybe for him it's a case of been there and done that.

 

Also, wasn't Captain Gus the Staff Captain on Allure while Captain Zini and Johnny were the two primary masters. He has done a great job on Quantum Class and Harmony, and is very well liked by his crew and guest.

 

How about stepping up promoting one of the many capable females (Capt. Liz is one) to bring out or join Symphony OTS, and be Master to the largest Cruise Ship. Celebrity stepped up a while back by naming the first US female to captain a cruise ship.

 

I do know that while it's a great honor and privilege to bring out or be on the biggest or newest ships, some Masters just prefer the smaller ships.

I saw an Explorer review from Feb 2001 which listed Captain Johnny as Captain, so he may have been doing the yard start up and returned after the take out captain had done a full rotation.

Is Captain James from Liberty returning?

We had him on our first cruise in 2009 on Jewel, don't remember him but he certainly ran an excellent ship!

 

he should be back from vacation April 30 but he worked a longer rotation waiting for Capt Rune's replacement to show so I'm guessing somewhere around the 2nd week of May.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :eek::eek::eek: I was SO looking forward to seeing him again! After we had to leave Ovation early and miss our second leg on Radiance in February, we were so sorry not to get back to JD. We were somewhat mollified by the thought that we'd see him again on the Hawaii run. I am now totally bummed.

 

Well, at least we'll have Captain Trym. LOVED him too. :cool:
