Cartagena walled city where to eat

Does anyone have a recommendation on where to eat in the walled city? Not that fancy of a place. One that serves Colombian dishes.:confused:

La Mulata is a favorite of ours. Located on Calle Quero just about a 5 minute walk from the Santa Clara Hotel. The food is excellent, interesting decor and great prices. Mostly local dishes and many of the local business people lunch there. It's only open for lunch and different selections daily. Can be crowded but the wait is normally short. It meets the 3 B's requirement - bueno, bonito, barato (good, beautiful and inexpensive.)

The menu at La Mulata is different for each day of the week. Items run around $7-10. The restaurant is in the San Diego area of Old Town, about 2 blocks form Plaza Fernanda Madrid on Calle Quero across the street from a beautiful boutique hotel, Casa Quero. Get a great tourist map for free from the tourism kiosks that are located on the cruise pier or in Old Town.

How far is La Mulata from the cruise dock? Walking distance? Safe?

 

La Mulata is located in the Walled City. Because of the streets and the heat, it is best to take a taxi to get to the Walled City (or Old Town). It is only about a 10 - 15 minute taxi ride from the port and costs $15. Once downtown there are many wonderful things to see and do. Besides eating, you should plan on walking around to experience the city.

 

There is also another fairly new restaurant in the Old Town that is very typical and would give you a taste of the life downtown. Accion de Gracias (Thanksgiving) is located a 5 minute walk from the clock tower across the street from Parque Centenario on Media Luna in the Gethsemani part of Old Town. It is a large restaurant and popular place of the downtown workers. It can be packed at noon but you can wait for a table. A wide variety of local dishes with lots of food and averaging $7-11 per person and only open for lunch. Great food and opportunity to sample life in the city.

There will be a line of taxis outside the dock area when a ship is in.

You go through the terminal building shops and out the gate about a hundred feet from the building.

 

No problem getting a taxi back to the dock. There are many who cruise the walled city area. All you have to do is hold up your hand and one will stop.

 

Take something with you that has a picture of the ship in case the driver doesn't speak English, or tell him you want to go to the "barca".

So, does anyone have any good recommendations for where we can grab some arepas for breakfast in the morning? We will be in Cartagena for a day and want to start with arepas and then bandeja paisas for lunch! :):):):)
