Desert Cruizers Posted August 26, 2011 #526 Share Posted August 26, 2011 Evening Peter, the resort of idyllwild, was our summer retreat for years when I was going up and hasn't changed a bit except for population, more restaurants and lovely Bed & Breakfasts Inns. There has been some small changes in the down town area, but it looks the same now as it did back in the 1950's, except for more homes hidden in the trees. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your assistance. I see you sitting at your computer so many hours every day. Appreciate it and can't wait to meet you and the whole gang. sebritish Posted August 26, 2011 #530 Share Posted August 26, 2011 Yes it is exciting after final payment it makes it seem more real...we booked this in March 2010 so it has been a long time coming....don't really like booking this far in advance but usually have to to get the best prices and the cabin you want. I have several friends, clients etc. that live in the path of Irene hope they and everyone else stays safe. First an Earthquake and now this how awful. Got a chill when I hit the print button. Almost hesitated. Stupid, yes, but just 65 days........after more than a year. Hooray!!! Printing our Set Sail Passes is so exciting!! I used to do the Doc Dance back when we got the docs in the mail, now I just do my Set Sail Pass Happy Dance.....:D Just got back from the grocery store and it was pretty busy in there. Just about all the bottled water was off the shelves, and the manager told me that they sold out of all the batteries. We are expecting very high winds and lots of rain here in suburban Baltimore, predicting 3-6" of rain. The lower lying areas will experience flooding, and we are worrying about massive power outages. I'm a little stressed, but we will deal with whatever comes our way. If anyone would have told me that we'd have an earthquake AND a hurricane in one week I would have wondered what they were smoking....:eek: I hope everyone along the east coast STAYS SAFE!!!! kylea_s Posted August 26, 2011 #536 Share Posted August 26, 2011 We are sitting safely in Charlotte trying to find webcams of the NC beaches. There is one about about a half mile from our house but it is apparently turned off. So far the house still has electricity and phone. We left the answering machine on so we call 'home' occasionaly to check on both services. Those near London, my DD, DSIL and very DGS will be visiting London in late October. Any ideas for a nice hotel centrally located? Ive recommended the Reubens at the Palace but that might be over budget. Does the Casino on Liberty only use American Dollars? We are still mulling over how to have the right kind of money at the right time without feeling like a bank while in Barcelona. Thanks for all of your help, Donna
Desert Cruizers Posted August 26, 2011 #537 Share Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) Paul, John & I can't wait to meet everyone also. We have been fortunate to meet Sam & Char, and several others during the year. We had great visits so know this trip will be wonderful when we meet everyone else. I did post on the other board and are keeping our fingers crossed, our friend Bill received a call in to Scripps Hosp in Loma Linda for what we hope will be a possible surgery date for new kidneys and a liver. This is the difficult part, his needing both. John & another man got Bill ready and left at 5 AM this morning. We are concerned for our friends Lin & Rich in Cumberland, RI and they are prepared with food & water for a week. Paul it would be great if we could get a luncheon worked out so ourselves, Larry & Cherie & Mike & Bill could meet you before the cruise. vegascruiser1 Posted August 27, 2011 #539 Share Posted August 27, 2011 Everyone who is in the path of Irene, please be safe. My brother did get home this morning back to North Carolina, he was in Chicago (while I was there and we did get to see each other for a couple of hours). But he is about 2 hours from the coast, so he should be okay. Bill, Mike, Paul & Mark, glad to see you back posting. Just a little about me, I am traveling with 2 girlfriends my DH Bob did not want to do this cruise this time. He likes the Caribbean and doesn't care for the long flights. I live in Vegas and so do my two cruise mates. We are all originally from Chicago, but didn't know each other from there. Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else. peteukmcr Posted August 27, 2011 #541 Share Posted August 27, 2011 To all of you in the path of Irene or likely to be affected by her, please stay safe. Off to North Wales soon after taking Charlie to the cattery for his weekend 'away'. My parents have no internet access, so the next time I'll check in will be Sun as we cross the Irish sea to Dublin onboard the Stena HSS.

When my brother & sister-in-law lived in Florida, I couldn't stop watching when all those hurricanes hit in 2004 & 2005. They live in NC now and are getting some wind & rain. They are about 70 miles from Raleigh. Edited August 27, 2011 by vegascruiser1

kylea_s Posted August 27, 2011 #548 Share Posted August 27, 2011 Its probably just a fluke but the only place that Ive had issues with purchases is the terminal shop that sells wine in Barcelona. The clerks were using an ancient looking credit card reader and told me the card wouldnt clear. I knew no reason for that so they ran it again. Still it wouldnt show 'good'. Hubby was looking at me like it was time to go so I paid cash. Both charges showed up on credit card bill. It took ages to get it straightened out. Lesson learned from the credit card company if that happens is to have the merchant immediately call the number on the back of the card. Matthew, Peter, daughter has decided to stay at the Ruebens and has given me their next destination. Would you believe its Manchester for two nights? They are looking for a more reasonable hotel in a nice part of town. A good restaurant near by would be good but not necessary as they will have a car. Night life nearby isnt necessary as Connor goes down about 8. Any ideas?
KeywestK Posted August 27, 2011 #549 Share Posted August 27, 2011 (edited) It's raining here, but not too windy yet. We're told to expect the worse later tonight. Wish it were tomorrow already. We were going to see a movie this afternoon, but David decided he didn't want to be driving home later in the rain. I'm not disappointed as it was not a movie I cared too much about....;) Trying to buy our train tickets from MAD to BCN. Not an easy process.......
