Jacob0525 Posted August 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2011 How long until your cruise can you claim a refund or onboard credit when the price drops? The price dropped on our Monarch cruise on September 5th. I heard it was by the final payment date. I would like to be sure.
paul929207 Posted August 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2011 After final payment, you are in a much weaker position. You cannot cancel without incurring serious penalties. At this point you will probably lose 50% or more. Therefore many of the reduced prices are for new bookings only. However, you can ask.
Jacob0525 Posted August 20, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted August 20, 2011 Thanks. What I meant to say was claiming an onboard credit on our sailing. I am not canceling our cruise. I appreciate your help.
CruiserBruce Posted August 20, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2011 I would think you need to request it at the time the lower price is available. I am not sure anybody would accept you saying the price was lower 3 months ago, and now you want the credit.
Alayne Posted August 20, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2011 There was a price drop on one of our cruises but it was after final payment. I knew that we wouldn't get the lower price since final was made but I hoped we might get an OBC. When we checked RCI said they don't give OBC's after final payment either. I had amounted to about $75.00 per person. Oh, well, just means a couple less drinks or less visits to Chops.
Jacob0525 Posted August 20, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted August 20, 2011 Actually, the price dropped a few days ago and as of today it's still the same. I have not been able to get a hold of my travel agent to tell her about it. In the meantime, I'm still watching the price.
Rare Essiesmom Posted August 21, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2011 They will not make any adjustments after final payment. You can, however, upgrade if the price for a cabin category above yours is now what you paid, or less. EM

If you can not get your travel agent , or someone at there place of business, may be you need a new travel agent ?? Just a thought.. Cori
firefly333 Posted August 21, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 21, 2011 You cannot get a price drop on RCL after final payment. Its usually better to post this on the specific RCL board since you get people like paul answering generically who dont know the RCL policy. If there is a higher category for what you paid, you can ask for the upgrade, but you will not get a price drop on a sept 5th RCL sailing after final payment. Essiesmom is correct ...and alayne Unless there is a higher category above yours lower .. no reason to call your TA
aprilivy Posted August 21, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 21, 2011 This explains a lot - we always pay "up front" when we book. We do, however, have a habit of waiting for the price to drop before booking as we are bargain hunters at heart.
