Carrying your Seapass card

Keep mine in my bra, commonly referred to as "Bank of Boob". This is also where I keep my I-phone, cash and credit cards when I go ashore. Works really well until the phone rings! Susie

I also deposit frequently at the "Bank of Boob", although that's not because I can add without notice... but its a very handy pocket. :o

I could care less what others think when the phone rings. I'm old enough (mid 50's and everyone's Mom-ish) that it is more of "oh look at that cute old woman" rather than "omg, look what that woman did!". Love it!

I have the same problem of no pockets (You're a woman! You don't need functionality in your clothing; clothes are just for looking pretty!) and also dislike lanyards. However, I intend to use the same approach as I do in the office (where if you forget your swipe card you might get stuck in the kitchen and have to wait for someone to come and rescue you), and get a waistband clip. Clips onto the top of pants / skirt and has a retractable cord to stretch out to wave in front of the door.

Any flaws in my plan?

Hi all,

I've found that the little name tag holders you get at conferences work well for holding the cards. Some are clear plastic with a hole at the top that you can clip a lanyard to, others come with a string attached and, even better some are like small wallets. I keep some in my travel box and bring them in case we are not provided with anything. That way, if I'm going to the beach or the pool or just don't want to carry a bag, I have my card with me.

I purchased a lanyard at Office Depot years ago when I needed it as a school teacher. All staff and students were required to wear lanyards with ID's visible. The one I purchased has several small pockets behind the front see-through plastic slot. One pocket has a zipper, and I carry cash and a credit card there. I keep the lanyard tucked under my shirt until I need something.

We have never seen any ship simply give out those lanyards. As has been said, you normally need to purchase them at one of the shops and ask them to punch a whole in your card. But here is a tip. We have seen many cruise passengers walking around European cities wearing those silly-looking lanyards with their cruise cards hanging out. Perhaps they forgot they have them around their neck or perhaps they think it just looks cool to wear a cruise card. But, in reality, that card is telling very gypsy in Europe, "Here I am....a silly cruise passengers probably carrying valuables." You can guess the rest. So, when you get off the ship keep it under your shirt :)

Hey Thornbird, you have reminded me that I have that very type of item from a previous ski trip! I have dug it out and will try and remember to take it next time!!

Love all the ideas, though I am amazed at what some ladies can get into their bras!

WOW! I learn something new every day! After 12 cruises I didn't realize that the little folder they give you is a card wallet. I didn't even notice the pocket and it doesn't say anywhere to use it as such. It just says to keep the card in a safe place. I don't use a lanyard on the ship--just keep the card in my pocket, but sometimes in my purse. However I occasionally have to get it rekeyed if it's close to a credit card I take in case I need it on an excursion. Last June In Russia on the Baltic cruise I used a large lanyard I got years ago on an RCCL cruise. This has pockets which held my SeaPass, credit card, cash, passport, small digital camera and extra batteries. It felt secure and I was glad I used it when someone stole a fellow excursion person's camera out of her case and almost did the same to a man in our group. It was around my neck right in front of me at all times and not hanging off my shoulder where someone could sneak up on me and grab it.

Suite Susie--I love your description, Bank of Boob! How do have room for all of that without being uncomfortable? I sometimes keep my phone there when I wear pants without pockets. My previous flip phone was small and fit easily. The newer one is bigger and a little precarious, but I still do it. I put it on vibrate so it's not audible and can usually pull it out with no witnesses, lol

Here's a funny story that happened last Jan. when DH's sister and I were at the Dayton airport on the way to SJ for a S. Carib. cruise. I wore my "good" jeans without pockets and had my phone in my bra. The TSA person asked me if my pockets were empty. I said, "no pockets" and went through the scanner. It beeped. I did this 3 times and finally she said, "There has to be a cell phone somewhere".

 I said, "Oh No. I forgot!!" And pulled out the phone, totally mortified. I apologized profusely, expecting to be whisked off to be strip-searched and grilled in the back room. Fortunately it was a woman and she cracked up and let me through. Meanwhile my SIL had seen the whole thing from the other line and was doubled over with laughter. We still giggle over it. I now always wear pants with pockets and have had no problems.

I have used the 'reel' type many times and it works really well, especially when getting on and off the ship in ports. I found the lanyard type that hang around your neck just get in the way. I just use the one I normally use at work. Guest Relations will punch a hole in the Seapass card for you.

Interesting thread- I used to carry my sea pass card around in my pocket- and it happend not just once that I left my card in the online lounge right after I swipped it through the reader.

Now that I have my wonderful Kindle along with a Cover with pockets inside I put my card just into my Kindle- Cover- works perfect. I leave my cabin seldom without my Kindle. exept for Dinner of course!

I used to use lanyards untill several years ago I found the following item in one of the cruise gift shops. I've never found another in a gift shop but purchased a few online so I could give them to friends. I think they're idea!

This is zippered and has a clip to attach to the inside of your waistband securely. Just the right size to put my seapass card in there as well as some cash for the casino and maybe another credit card when I'm going ashore. Very easy to get to and just the right size!

That's not a bad idea! Provide microchipping as an option. Prior to a cruise, go to your doctor and have him implant a chip in your rear end - it could be done in minutes as a simple office visit. When arriving at the embarkation port, the check in person would wand you butt and it would activate for the duration of your cruise. Upon disembarkation at the end of the cruise, a similar wanding action would disable it and it would then be ready for the next cruise, even if it was on another line. When leaving or returning to the ship, simply wiggle your behind in front of the scanner and 'Beep', you are cleared. Buy a drink in the bar, wiggle your rear at the waiter and the charge is made to your account. A scanner could be added to your stateroom door so you would no longer have to use one hand to slide the card. That would leave both hands free for carrying all the extra food and drinks to your room "For later". No more need to fish out that seapass card anymore.

WoW, being a visionary is a pretty awsome feeling!!!!

Think you two are really on to something big. Could be a whole new industry. But don't stop at just a butt chip. Add in a GPS chip so people who need to know where your butt has been and is currently can easily check. The ship can see where you are if they want to send a signal to your butt to get itself in gear and get back to the ship. This could revolutionize how people communicate. Just think of all the millions of grandmas and grandpas running around with tattoos in a few years. To them, a few more butt chips and other devices just add to their ornamentation. You two could make millions on this idea. :D

I totally agree with you about women's clothes, Thornbird! Most of my pants, capris and skirts/dresses have no pockets or those useless little sideways women's pockets that everything falls out of when you sit down. I think a lanyard looks tacky. I would consider the waistband clip, but because I am extremely short-waisted, I usually wear longer shirts untucked to try and balance my look. Would be awkward to reach up under the shirt to pull out the card. I used a small wristlet wallet last year, and that worked pretty well around the ship. I just let it dangle on my wrist and it had room for the card and some of that wonderful spa chapstick they leave you in the bathroom. I'm still using the last smidgen of that and hoping it will last til my next cruise!
