Millennium Drydock...Need advice

I am considering a family cruise (6 adults, 1 preteen) on the Millennium during spring break 2012. It would be the final cruise before the ship goes into drydock in April for a major redo. I am concerned that, by that time, the ship may not be "up to snuff. " I've never cruised on Celebrity but have heard good things. I'd appreciate any information about the current condition of the ship and opinions about whether going on the "last" cruise sounds like a good or bad idea, regarding both the facility and the crew attitude.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

We were on Millennium last year and it was in wonderful shape still. My guess is the dry dock is more of an effort to add new venues where they can charge $$$ for dinner than it is a spruce up. They may replace carpet and paint a few areas, but I think it's more of a change in the revenue model than it is worry over the ship being out of shape.

One concern being on the cruise just before drydock is that the crew will be getting the ship prepared and may start to close rooms, pools or areas of the ship.....stacking chairs, moving tables, pulling up rugs, etc.

Personally, I would not take that chance......

That's a good point. We were on the Radiance of the Seas right before its dry dock this year and that very thing happened. There were always guys in the hallway pulling wires and taking apart the panels. We just kind of walked around it, but it was a little bit of a hassle. On the last day they started taking out chairs, and other furniture and during debarkation they were going nuts with "packing". So even if the ship is in good shape the getting ready process may be annoying.

Actually they are pretty much redoing the whole ship, staterooms and everything.

To hijack the thread for a moment...could someone post the exact dates of the Millennium's drydock? TIA

Betsy

Hi Betsy,

It's late April 2012, I think the 21st. Millennium returns to service on May 12th.

Was just on the Millennium and overall the ship was is in good shape. There was only a few minor areas that showed any signs of wear and tear. My biggest complaint was with the casino, I'm not a bit gambler but the slot machines were all very, very old.

We liked this last cruise but it wasn't the best expereince, we had a much better expereince on the Constellation in April as the staff were much more attentive and there was fewer mistakes.
