Weather cancels cruise liner’s Eden visit

Updated October 03, 2011 10:51:38

Plans for a big cruise liner to anchor off the New South Wales far south coast have been cancelled.

The Dutch-owner Volendam was due to arrive off Eden's Twofold Bay about 7am (AESDT).

It was hoped the 1,400 passengers would boost the town's economy.

But Cruise Eden's Peter Stransfield says there was a sudden change of plans.

“The Volendam was coming direct from Noumea to Eden before it headed off to Sydney,” He said.

“But there's been some very bad weather between Australia and Noumea which meant that they would be very, very delayed.

“They weren't going to get into Eden until 2pm if they continued so they decided in those conditions that they would go direct to Sydney.”

So the Volendam has completed her journery from Vancouver to Austrailia.

She now heads over to NZ for a series of short charter cruises for the World Rugby Cup.

She will be used as a floating hotel in Auckland during the finals.

It will be all Rugby on board for a few days.:D

I have not been able to access this website today.

I took several goes to get it working. I had to go to the home page , click on webcam from there and then eventually got it running. You can see people walking around the upper decks.

Ah yes, apologies, I should have posted the home page link and you go from there. It is a good web cam as you can watch them pull out and sail out past the Opera House.

I watched her sail at 6.45pm tonight from our hotel balcony whilst waiting for the Dawn princess tomorrow, yes only 1 more sleep.
