Awaiting Sun Reviews

Now that the Sun is back in PC and sailing the Caribbean, I can't wait to read some Sun reviews with dailies.

I hope all who are sailing aboard her now are having the most wonderful time. I'm counting the minutes to our cruise!

You will likely have to wait a week or so. Sun has only completed the 3 day trip and the general concensus on that cruise's roll call is that service, food, etc left a lot to be desired. Hopefully by the time I leave in 10 days:D they will be back in the swing of regular weekly cruises after the longer Baltic cruises.

We have been on 5 cruises- 3 on Carnival, 1 on RC and this one on NCL Sun - and have never experienced worse food and lack of activities. You basically are forced to go to the specialty restaurants to get edible food. We had rough weather- not the cruiselines fault- but it seemed that they had no back up plan in place- we were told they would be adding activities for the day at sea but when the paper came out the only difference I noted was a Staff show. If you didnt want to sit out on the windy deck, gamble or shop- there was absolutely nothing else to do. I would not recommend this cruise to anyone.

What about gamblers? I love to gamble. Is the ship good for that? I've been trying to find out which table games they have. Did you happen to notice?

I usually eat in the specialty restaurants, so not too concerned about the food, and I spend the majority of my time in the casino....so not too worried about trivia, or staff shows. But if you can provide some info on the casino, it would be helpful.

thanks,

Stephen

totally disagree about being forced to go to the pay-for dining venues

9 cruises and NEVER paid extra for GOOD food.

was on the SUN last Dec for 2 weeks...GREAT cruise and GOOD food--all but the broken popcorn machine--that was hubby's complaint.

we were even on the first week in Dec when the ship had mechanical probs with missed ports/itinerary changes and it was still a WONDERFUL cruise with a GREAT crew!

we will be doing another 2 weeks this Dec and 3 weeks next.

there are alot of us repeat NCL cruisers that LOVE the SUN--check out all the SUN threads for some good positives about the SUN!!!

XPattycake"s ordeal is not the norm-there definitely IS edible food without paying extra.

and unfortunately you cant do anything about 'rough' weather.

you have to make the best of a cruise no matter how bad it is!!!

Went for my first cruise ever on the Sun in January. Loved the ship and crew and thought the food was good. Better in the specialty restaurants but pretty good in the MDR also. We thought the nighttime entertainment was good and since we are adults are fully capable of finding entertainment during the day all by ourselves.

Were there any improvements since the Sun was refurbished in dry dock? We were on in 2010 and the food and cruise were fine, but the ship was not up to the standard of the other NCL ships we'd been on. If it had been first, it might have been the last one.

I would totally agree with you, this is my 5th cruise, 1 with Disney, 3 with Carnival. The food was not very good, service was lousy. One of the pools was closed for two days, I had to chase down the room stewart EVERY day for ice. The ship even got rocked about when we had calm seas. Not impressed with NCL at all.

I have had two separate cruises on the Sun and had a great time on each sailing -- 14 nights South America in 2009 and most recently, a nine-nighter Baltic this past June.

The food and crew were wonderful. Thought the ship was in great shape. I wouldn't hesitate to sail on her again.

We just got back from the Sun on the 15th and had a great time. I think everyone needed to realize that we were in bad weather, things are not going to go as planned.

We ate at 3 of the specialty restaurants and the rest at the main dining rooms.Food was good and all our waiters were attentive and fun. We had a great time at the ports.

Sure gettting on the ship was a pain, but that was the coast guard and port, not NCL. They had put the terminal on Lock down. Sure it was really bad weather the 1st night or so... but we could have been the other ships that went out on Sunday that SAT at PC till Monday.

The POOLS were Closed because of the WEATHER! Did you see how HIGH the waves were when they filled the 2nd pool??? I would not have wanted to be in it. It was a safety issue. The Captain commented on that at the question and answer they had at the Windjammer.

The Captain, Tommy was great!

Out Room Steward was awesome.

A cruise is what you make it out to be!

We live 1.5 hours from Canaveral and that weekend was about the worst "non-hurricane" weather we've experienced. There was a no-named storm brewing out there and people who lived in Brevard county and Volusia were without power -- I think 125,000 but not sure. Any ship would have been rolling. There was a clip of Freedom of the Seas (also from Canaveral) and the damage on the ship was awful.

We were on our first NCL cruise (on the Sun) in March and are going back in January. I'm just very, very sorry it will be leaving Canaveral and going to Miami after April.
