Nicest thing done for you an a cruise

Two things come to mind for me.

First, I took my son on his first cruise this past April for his 13th birthday. When we got on the ship, we found that my sister had put a gift of onboard credit to our cabin. She's a great sister.

Second, on that same cruise, my son was the only under age person at our dinner table of 8. Ajay and Sommy, the waiter and asst waiter, completely catered to him, and most especially after our first formal night when they saw he had dressed in Brooks Brothers suit and tie and loved being dressed up. They always had lemonade waiting for him, brought him extra appetizers or desserts or extra baked potatoes etc that they thought he might like (or might not) but thought he should try them to see. To his credit, he tried everything they brought him, which just made them bring him more. Now, (as a funny) he says he doesn't want to go on another cruise unless Ajay and Sommy are on the ship and are our waiters. He loved them and vice versa. And because of the way they treated HIM, I myself can't say enough good things about them.

I suppose I shold give one. While snorkeling in St Kitts, I stepped on a sea urchin, actually more like kicked it, not so much stepping on it. The guy at the bar who gave me first aid, was very gentle and kind, he did not speak English very well, and it was funny when he tried to explain to me that he was going to "put my foot on fire" but not to worry. ( He used heat to kill the spikes still in my foot) I was very grateful they knew what to do, when I went to the ship dr when we got back on board, she told me they did exatcly the right thing.

A young lad working as one of the ship photographers walked by a couple taking pictures of themselves ( alternating or extending the arm for a picture of both of them). He offered to take the pictures with their camera, made them take nice poses and made sure the framing and light were right. Then just went on his way. He looked like he was on a break and did not have his camera with him.

Some generous pours by the bartenders on the pool deck ;).

But in all seriousness, the Concierge on Freedom bonded with us last year and told us the next time we were on Freedom he would arrange for us to have a free private beach cabana (which costs a couple hundred dollars) at Labadee.

He emailed us a few weeks ago to make sure we wanted one for May.

Above and beyond good service!

Last year we took 7 grandkids (without their parents!), ages 5-11 on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. We had lots of talks with the kids, including a cruise behaviour contract that they had to sign, about politeness and appropriate behavior.

First of all, the dining room staff treated the kids like royalty, with all kinds of special perks--huge chocolate milks at their places each night, the head waiter came by every night and performed and taught them various puzzler-type tricks, and the staff went out of their way to develop a special rapport with the children--and this was My Time dining. (They saved the same large round table for us every night.)

We were a little worried about using the MDR with so many kids and only two adults--we did not want to be bothering others with noise or too much activity.

I thought the kids did pretty good, considering, but it was especially heartwarming that a lady, who had sat near us every night, came up on the last night and complimented us on the kids' behavior and said what a pleasure it was to see such nice and mannerly children.

It kind of made my cruise! And no, they were not perfect, but they did make us proud.

On a previous cruise, a couple years ago, I got to my cabin and realized I'd forgotten the power cord to my laptop & the juice in the battery wasn't going to last for the whole cruise. I'd met a couple onboard who just happened to have the same series laptop I had. He went back to their cabin & got their charger for me.

The next a.m. I took their charger back to their cabin along with a bottle of wine that I'd brought with me, as a thank you gift. They weren't in their cabin, but the cabin steward was nice enough to leave the charger, wine, and my thank you note on the desk. They had the wine with dinner that evening.

on my first cruise ( solo ) a wonderful older couple took me under their wing by offering too save a place for me at the lido deck for lunches, asked me to join them for the shows and do things in the ports. they were so nice and i enjoyed their company very much. they were very understanding when i mentioned i had other plans or could not join them. i made a wonderful friendship with them and we even got off the ship at the same time too say goodby. they made my first cruise much more memorable and fun. there are truly helpful and nice people on the ship if you just allow yourself too see them. :)

We paid someones bar tab, we are well known in our area as pay it forward couple, last year a man in our complex where we live, its a private home area with a runway for private planes, and since we were blest with alot of toys, my husband was talking to a lady friend at his job. she complained that the govt does not give her enough to pay her bills, so my husband went to the lighting company to pay 1 years worth of her electricty.

then my husband and I bought a local kid his first car.

We give things away, cause god tells us to do so...and we show love for mankind in the things we do, cause love is all we have to share.

i suggest that you do someone a good deed does not mean to give them a cruise or buy a car, get them a hug or a cup of coffee... buy someone dinner this may be the only thing they will ever have. make someone feel special and wanted, not many people feel this way anymore.

when you give part of yourself god pays you back with more than riches, the weathly person is a god loving person and you will be blest the rest of your life!:D

If thinking about nice things done by crew or staff - in 2005 my niece and I met two officers in Skywalkers. We chatted the evening away and then received an invitation to the bridge for a tour. It was really wonderful. Plus, we encountered one of those officers on a land in port and he spent an hour or so just talking to us about ship life and his home in Croatia. Just a nice experience.

Another comes to mind when sailing on the Crown Princess with my friend Teri. She was the only person I've cruised with that didn't really enjoy the experience which left me many nights on the ship on my own as she just stayed in the cabin watching TV:eek::eek::eek:. There was a bartender in the Wheelhouse lounge who would come up and chat with me and even dance with me when the band was playing. Such a fun experience.

In regards to passengers I've met on a ship - back in the early 2000's I cruised solo for the first time. It was a cruise on HAL's Statendam - 10 day Mexico. I met an older couple in one of the lounges one evening. This ship was actually quite "dead" at night. They saw me and asked me to join them for a drink. I spent several evenings with them in that lounge talking about their many cruising experiences. Since it was my first solo experience they really made it so enjoyable and I still fondly remember them and their many stories.

My mother, father and best friend were dying so things were really stressful. I decided to take my oldest sister on a cruise. I had saved up some money so decided that since things were sort of stable and I knew that she really had wanted to go on a cruise but would never have the money to do it, I would take her. She didn't want to get off the ship since she was disabled and thought that it would be too hard. We did enjoy the spa. Our TA was so great and ended up getting us an upgrade and VIP embarkation. Also, we ended up with chocolate covered strawberries and appts sent to our room.

We had a back-to-back cruise. We loved the waiter/waitress team we had on the first leg. We found out they were married, and had a one year old boy at home with grandparents, while they both worked the ship.

We tipped them pretty well, but not extravagantly. I gave a nice note with the money. On the next leg, I ran into the mom on deck. She gave me a wonderful hug to thank me, and when she pulled away I saw she had tears in her eyes. That really touched me.

On one of our early cruises one of our suitcases failed to turn up at the ship after our landing at Barbados airport. Not being an experienced packer I had put all our "posh" stuff in the missing suitcase and DH had no underwear, shaving gear, socks or shoes.. My very expensive never been worn evening dress was also in the case along with , very foolishly, some jewellery bought for me by hubby over the years. I was very upset and told all on our shared table, although DH is a very private person and was mortified that I had shared this horrid experience with strangers. The case turned up four days later with everything of value in it taken out and anything left in it was ripped to shreds obviously done on purpose. I was distraught and had nothing for the formal night as the ship blamed the air carriers and we were left to sort out the mess with the insurance company on our return home. We managed to get by for a couple of days but our table companions could see how upset I was and all of them came by our stateroom at different times and gave us a little something to help our predicament. I was lent the most beautiful dress for the formal night and one of our tablemates, being a lawyer, intervened on our behalf and got us some OBC sorted so that DH could buy razors, underwear etc. One of the ladies treated me to a spa treatment and shoes, jewellery, makeup and anything else we needed was either loaned or donated to us. A terrible experience turned out to be a lesson in peoples' kindness and I will always remember how generous people were to my husband and me. I also learned to pack half and half and never pack jewellery in hold luggage. This happened almost 15 years ago, but still I get a nasty feeling in the pit of my stomache if our suitcases dont appear on the luggage carousel in a timely manner.

Several years ago we cruised on Celebrity with my friend who had recently become blind. Prior to the cruise she had had extensive rehab / training to learn daily living skills and had become very self-sufficient in her home and local surroundings, however, when she was in an unfamiliar setting she did need assistance. So the first night of the cruise when we went into the MDR I was quietly describing our surroundings and the the cutlery setup, glass placement, location of the bread basket etc. When the food came I told her where the food was located on her plate: meat at 9 o'clock, veggies at 6 o'clock and so on. Also, on this particular night she was having difficulty cutting up her meat so I just went ahead and cut it up for her. Quietly, no big deal. No one said anything, no one noticed and we enjoyed our meal. The next night when we came into the MDR our waiter Jason, greeted us and took my friends arm, escorted her to her chair and as he was putting the napkin in her lap he began to quietly whisper the location of everything on the table including who was sitting where. Later, as each food item was delivered he would describe the appearance of the food, color and consistency as well as the location of each food item: meat at nine o'clock etc. The best was that all the food came to her pre-cutup! We had no idea that even he had been paying attention to us that first night! As the week progressed, and he got to know us better, his sense of humor kicked in and he began to not only describe my friends food to her but to also give a description of what everyone at the table was eating. One night he described what my husband was eating as looking like "mush" and another night describing what our other friends were eating as "rabbit food" in addition to telling her who was putting too much salt on their food and who wasn't finishing their meal!

He was wonderful! He made my friend and all us so comfortable.

Can I ask, what is the sweetest thing you have ever seen on your cruise or what is the nicest thing anyone has done for you? :) Or have you ever helped someone in need?

We were in Roatan last January and booked a private excursion. There were six in our party. Our driver was a young man and during the tour he received a phone call, then he asked if he could go by his home and pick up his young daughter and take her to the beach with us. Naturally we said yes. When we went to his home, he lived in a very poor section of Roatan. His home was more of a 'lean to' but still a home to him. His love for his family was very real. His daughter was so cute (app. 5 years old) and had a blast at the beach. We had a great time on the excursion and when it was over, our tips to him totaled well over $120.00. While we didn't have to tip that much, we felt that he could definitely use the money. We felt that even though our tour guide had a job to do, he took time to include his daughter. We had never seen anything like this on any prior excursions, anywhere. This was, by far, one of the best excursions that we had ever taken. When we return next June, we hope to see him again.

Now all of this could have been a ruse but, if so, it was well rehearsed and well planned. Either way, we had a good time. And by the way, I am disabled and he had to lug a mobility scooter around town and got it out whenever it was needed.

We were eating dinner in Cagney's on the NCL Gem last January. Our friend, Sue, said she wanted "nothing" for dessert. After bringing desserts to the rest of us, our waiter brought her a plate with "Nothing" written in chocolate syrup. He overhead them say they were celebrating their anniversary so brought another plate with a picture of kissing swans on it, again drawn with chocolate syrup.

This is the same waiter who made sure we were always taken care of for breakfast and luncn no matter who our server was.

I have two stories. I was on a Crystal cruise when a group of us realized we were of Hungarian descent. We started talking about how we love Hungarian food, and what we like to cook. The next day, we received an invitation from the head chef inviting us to a specal lunch of entirely Hungarian food. The waiter who was serving us drinks in the lounge overheard our conversation and told the chef, who is Hungarian. It was a very specal gathering.

The second story is more personal. My mom, who loved to cruise, fell and broke her hip on Celebrity Millennium. It was during a pretty rough storm and a door swung open and hit her, causing her to fall. She spent the night in the medical center, and the next morning she was evacuated off the ship in Nassau. When the nurses were wheeling her to the gangway, every passenger, who was standing in the gangway waiting to leave the ship on tours, stopped and gave mom an ovation. It continued until she was in the ambulance. It was a very touching moment during a very scary time.

My husband and I became engaged on our first cruise, CCL Legend 2010. One of our roll call friends sent us a nice bottle of wine. It was a total surprise to have it delivered by room service complete with the iced wine bucket and glasses. It was so sweet of her to think of us. Thanks Boo.

On our second cruise, Honeymoon cruise out of Tampa, we had a nice visit with friends that we met from roll call on our first cruise. They live locally and met us at our pre-cruise hotel; we ordered take out pizza and had a nice visit with them. They handed us a very nice Wedding card with some OBC$ to enjoy a few DOD's. Thanks to TheFinkelFour Family.

*** Both cruises have been enhanced by meeting some really nice people on our roll calls. **********

We were on the Allure of the Seas a month ago on the first week of a back to back. The screw that holds my glasses together on one side broke. Fortunately I need them only for reading and the computer and did carry a pair of reading glasses. After getting no answer dialing 0, my wife dialed the captain’s number. The person who answered said they would get back to us. A few minutes later, the shop supervisor called and came to our cabin. She had a kit with a screwdriver and replacement screws (as did we), but the screw hadn't fallen out; it broke in half. She took the glasses and said she had an expert in one of the shops. Sure enough, they were fixed a couple of hours later. They got one of our “Honoring the Wow" cards.

About ten years ago, on Dawn Princess, my wife and I both ordered a goat cheese pizza as an appetizer, at dinner, but, while it was fantastic we only ate half each, and, when the waiter arrived to clear, we asked for a 'doggie bag' so that we might eat the rest later.

Being our usual selves we forgot all about it, and our waiter did not mention it either as we left the dining room, so we carried on doing our usual evening activities. On our final return to the cabin, my wife turned to me and said, 'I do wish that we had picked up that pizza'. I unlocked the door to our cabin, only to find two pizzas on the bed, which, went down very well with some wine that we had on hand.:)

Our waiter was on his last cruise, and we sent him home with a nice little tip. Overall I think that he may have been the best waiter that we have ever had, and I do not recall having a poor one on any ship.

On a world cruise, some people I met were getting a group together and asked me (I was travelling solo) if I wanted to sit with all of them at the captains luncheon. I was the 2nd last person to arrive and sat down next to an empty seat. They said the captain would be arriving shortly and would be sitting next to me. I thought it was a lovely gesture on all of their parts.:)
