MISSSNOOPYGIRL Posted January 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2012 I've read that some cruisers tip extra to receive strong drinks. Is this IN ADDITION TO the standard 15 percent that is automatically added when you buy a drink? Meaning do you up the credit card tip or give cash to assure good service and strong pours? Either putting an extra amount on the slip or giving a cash tip would suit this purpose I think.
bzpilot Posted January 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Yes, people are referring to tipping over the 15% automatic tip. Cash in hand tip has been known to get you better drinks and quicker service when the bars are busy.
H82seaUgo Posted January 13, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2012 drink tips can be increased or decreased right on your bill. cross off the tip amount, and retotal. keep your receipt and make sure it balances to your account. lot easier to give them cash for extra standout though. elcuchio24 Posted January 13, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Just for the record, I have never had any problem with weak drinks on CCL.
golfadj Posted January 13, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Should be done by dealing with one bartender on the ship.
okgirl Posted January 13, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2012 The drinks I order from a bartender I never tip extra per drink, and have never felt like they were weak pours. I do cash tip a $20 around midweek to the bartenders that I've used the most. I cash tip $1 per drink when I'm in the casino and I do think that it speeds up service. And I continue once I get the On US card and some waiters are very clever because even though they still get the tip amount when it's free to me and they get the $1 tip from me, they will often ask if I want a water to go with that (and I usually do) and so they get a little tip from the bottle of water too. A good bar waiter can make a tidy sum if they are quick and smart about it.
cb at sea Posted January 13, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2012 We've never had "weak" pours, either....I think they're pretty generous! And, we don't pre-tip....if we frequent a bar above all others, we will tip the bartender a bit extra at times....certainly, not for every drink. I think 15% is fine! zqvol Posted January 13, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Urban Myth that the drinks are weak. Urban fact, when you drink umbrella drinks there is so much other stuff in the drink that the liquor gets lost. If you want to feel the effects of the alcohol, drink beer, or something like bourbon and water and forget the other stuff. IMO tipping a server nicely the first day and using that server will get you quicker service but does not effect the strength of the beverage. miched Posted January 13, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2012 . I found that if you get about 20 to 30 one hundred dollars bills and give one to a waiter or bartender when you order a drink that you can usually drink for free the rest of the night or day at that bar. :D. ;). . hbrote Posted January 13, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2012 I always tip the bartender's extra, especially on the first day. They will remember you and always have a drink waiting for you.
Havingfun2010 Posted January 13, 2012 #12 Share Posted January 13, 2012 I don't tip extra. The bartender is always happy to pour me a drink. The drink is always strong enough. My service is always the same speed as others. And the bartender gets a 15% tip for a relative easy service task (compared to waiters etc.) Most of the tip questions are concerning bartenders are only Perceived benefits, because you really want it to happen that way, so you get convinced. I disagree with you, as I stated the bartenders has a drink for you as you sit down no matter if you have others waiting.
