Getting cash on board

I like Traveler's checks too. It's the way I budget my "gambling money". No more than one $50 TC/day. Some days I win, some days I lose, and some days I don't play.

Bank of America no longer carries them. 3A out here no longer carries them. The credit union (branch location in another town) has one $150 packet left and they will no longer carry them. If I go and buy that one, that will be it. Traveler's checks will no longer be an option.

I thought I had read that the ships are unable to accept those pre-paid travel cards anyway?

Not that I would use them...they don't help with budgeting at all.

Bank of America no longer" keeps" them on hand at their branches..however easy to purchase from their website or by phone and they deliver them to your local branch for you to pick up in 2-3 business days..we even got some TC's in Euros to pay for our private tour in Rome..One of the few banks that we have found that does keep them on hand in our town is CitiBank...did not need an account there just walked in with cash and purchased as many as I needed...You are correct ships do not take the pre-paid travel cards.

if your seapass account is paid in cash the casino dont charge you the 3%

Are you sure about that? Do they even know that you've backed your account with cash? And if you have, why not just use the cash in the casino to begin with?

It's my understanding that the only people who don't pay the 3% fee are those who have earned a certain number of credits by playing the machines & those that are members of their players club.

Thanks! The teller mentioned nothing about that when I went in and asked about them. I haven't checked on their website for a while.

Good luck in finding a bank that will still sell travelers checks. Only 1 bank in Kansas City still has them, and you have to have an account there. Even AAA doesn't have them. I refuse to use a plastic card that will charge a transaction fee. Plus many times the ATM on the ship is out of money or out of order.

And fewer merchants are accepting them now. I can't recall where, but I just read an article within the last few weeks about this. They were very popular back in the days when plastic wasn't so prevalent, but are losing their appeal with the popularity of credit/debit cards.

Hmmm, I beg to differ with you about AAA. AAA is where I always get my traveller's checks from. I can also get them from my bank but they have to order them and it takes a couple of days for them to arrive at the bank branch I use.

When we were on the Voyager last month, we were able to cash one $200 personal check at Guest Services per cruise. Also we were able to draw cash from the Casino that went on our Sea Pass for a 3% service charge. It appears the 3% service charge is less then the ATM fee. Plan on doing it again next month on Oasis.
