Sun Princess late leaving Brisbane today

Recommended Posts

The Sun Princess was due to leave at 4pm today, all was in readiness but a halt was called.

The gangway was wheeled back into place and security and Customs officers waited around.

The story was that there was one extra person boarded who should not have been! The time ticked by and finally a person was escorted with their suitcase to the gangway. I could not tell if the individual was male or female, being short of stature and wearing all navy blue and a big straw hat. Their male companion did not look completely pleased but returned inside the ship as the person was lead away.

The Sun Princess left the quay at 4.50pm, she had to wait for a tender boat to be reloaded (and still one missing) then she was on her way. She turned opposite to the way the Pacific Dawn does, that was the bow turned towards starboard and the quay. The tug had to give her a few nudges to keep her in place before one final nudge to set her on her way towards the Gateway Bridge.

We were treated to two lots of three toots on the horn before departure.

So a fun afternoon getting ready for our own sail away next weekend on Radiance from Sydney :D

 How does that even happen? There are so many steps you have to go through before being allowed to board the ship and this person managed to get through all of those before they realised he/she shouldn't be on board? Very strange! :D

Wow! Son and DiL are on this cruise. He phoned me at 4 pm from the little front deck on Deck 10. It was so windy I could hardly hear him, so I thought that might have been why they were late leaving. They will have a tale to tell when they get home.:eek::eek:

Oh BTW, Moira, I captured the webcam shots as she was turning. I didn't think she turned the opposite way?????? When we've been on the Pacific Dawn she turned the same way.

LOL, wasn't me either. Haven't done my packing yet!!! :D

I could tell it wasn't you Sandy .. this person was way shorter! The captain made a couple of announcements but we couldn't hear much of it.

I definitely thought the Pac Dawn had turned the other way when I have seen her a couple of times. Maybe old age in setting in here

It was quite windy, SP was slowly making her way to the Gateway when we left with the tug behind giving a push in the right direction. There were even people still carrying life jackets after muster when she left.

Added: There was one lady next to us on the top deck with a loud ringing phone. Every time it rang she would say, "Who's phone is that?" After a while Britt was sick of it and kept saying to her "It's YOUR phone that's ringing". Then the lady would proceed to tell the phoner all about what was happening, how huge a ship it was ... blah blah blah and all her information was wrong! Lots of eye rolling from Britt and me ... :)

LOL Moira, it all happens around you doesn't it? :D Well, maybe the P Dawn does turn the opposite way sometimes. Unless you're there you don't see much of her nowadays as the webcam only updates every 15 mins. Booooo
