First off my wife and I are 26 and 25 respectively and have a 1 year old son. We have cruise majority Carnival with one Princess cruise thrown in there. The last few weeks I have been noticing how highly rated Celebrity is with their Ships, food, service, and all around high quality cruising. Even being "young" as some might say, I find luxury and service to be very important in my cruising experince. We are not really party Animals like it may seem being from a Carnival Cruise background, But I also like to sit in a bar and have fun or have things to do at night after 9pm. So my question is as a 25 year old would i feel out of place on a Celebrity ship? My wife and I enjoy the company of more mature couples so I dont think that would be a problem. I am just interested in what I would expect on a ship, would it be all 50 and over or is there younger familys?

My husband and I are late twenties with a young child and we've been cruising X since we were in our early twenties. We like it, but it's all about what your expectations are.

Most couples will be older. If you cruise at a family friendly time of year there will be more families, but generally there are nowhere near as many as might be on Carnival.

What kinds of things do you like to do in the evening? If you don't mind watching the show, going to the dance club, or sitting at a bar or in the casino, you'll be fine. Otherwise, evening activities do tend to be a bit limited. There is frequently live music somewhere but it's definitely not a party hearty atmosphere.

From the tone and style of your question, it seems that things would work well for you on a Celebrity cruise. Much depends on when and where you are cruise. We're older in the early 60's, but young in energy and spirit. We liked this ship very well. Below are some of my visuals to offer a better idea for the ship designs, style, etc.. You have lots of options on the ship and places to seek your "level and fit", etc.

You comment of "I find luxury and service to be very important in my cruising experience" is also very telling about your interests as being a good potential fit.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 64,098 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

The Solarium was one of our favorite areas on the Solstice. Food and drinks were nearby and it was very relaxed and sophisticated. Quieter, too, as it is an adults-only area. Two hot tubs here. Not crowded, especially in the evenings. Nice art and design are there as a part of this sparkling ship facility.:

On the top, back of the Solstice, here is a wider view of Corning Hot Glass show area, plus the green grass and the unique covering designs for this special area of the ship.:

In the pool area, they have these water jets that put on a nice “show”, both to watch and/or for kids to play in.:

Many times at the pool in the afternoons, the “party band” was going at it with great tunes, adding to the fun and excitement around the pool area. Just like done by some famous California pop groups, we were hearing “fun, fun, fun” underneath the sun!!:

This is a view looking up in the Solstice central lobby with a music group playing there. :

For the handy and quick Oceanview Cafe buffet, here is one visual sample showing how large and open are these various serving areas. This area includes getting items from the pizza-pasta bar area, various hot and cold items, free tea and juice machines, etc.:

My husband and I were 26 when we took our 1st cruise on Celebrity 2 years ago(first ever on any line). We obviously loved it, because we're about to take our 3rd cruise with them this weekend!

The age range can vary by sailing... our 1st trip was a 10 day Caribbean, in mid-December, and I'd say the average age was 70+. We still had a blast though, and found people of all ages on board to talk to. But when we went to the Med this summer (12 days), the crowd was much younger, with a majority of people in the 35-50 age range. Now we're about to take a 7 day Caribbean, which I expected to be a slightly younger crowd as well, but the latest reports on CC seem to indicate otherwise. Either way, I'm sure you know by now that Celebrity ships are not known for their party atmosphere/nightlife. That's not to say that certain areas aren't lively well into the night (Martini Bar!), but generally it's a more laid back, upscale environment.

I think desired energy level is a more important factor than a passenger's age. There are some very young adults that enjoy the laid back ambiance of a Celebrity ship, while many senior citizens prefer a cruise with a more energetic feel to it.

BTW - my usage of the term "energy level" refers to the energetic feeling of a ship not the energy level of a passenger.

DH and I first sailed celebrity when we were about 27 or 28. We were towards the younger range compared to other people who were on our sailing (Alaska), but it was a pretty good mix. We never felt out of place and always had things to do and when we wanted some quiet time outside of our cabin we were able to find places to have that too.

It was one of the best vacations of my life!

You won't regret your trip :)

Excellent points by Bridge Maven. Different people have a variety of interests and needs. I viewed these Solstice-type ships as having a good variety of more "active" areas along with some nice, lower-keyed zones. You can find the place to fit your interests at varied times.

Thank you all for your opinions,

I think I would fit in very well on celebrity for the simple fact that I am not really a party animal. I would rather sit in a bar and have a great conversation with new people then go to a club and not be able to talk.

From the pictures, reviews, and Ratings I have seen and heard about X I think that it probably would fit me well.

now I just have to decide if I should bring the little one with me or leave him at home and just have some adult time with the wife

Our daughter brought our 2yrold granddaugher last November. We loved having her with us and it was a great time. They do have a good kids program, but before potty-training time, they are a bit resticted on some of the activities. They did have baby-sitters from the kids program. It's required (at least then) to have two sitters. I think it was $10perhr, or something such as that.

Our table waitstaff were fantastic with her. Had a highchair setup for her, bibs and funfood right at the start so we weren't waiting for service for her. Very attentive. The room steward did a great job vacuuming up all the crackers and so on. Went the extra mile. But our daugher was tied up some with her and missed out a bit. But we all had fun.

So your call on bringing your toddler. It will be fun eithe way, but it is Always nice to be able to take a couples-only vacation and Celebrity sounds like it would be good match for that.

My wife, son (14) and I will also be taking our first Celebrity cruise this summer in the Baltic and are looking forward to a more upscale trip.

We have been on 20 cruises in the past 20 years and did not even consider taking our son until he was 4 or 5. He would always stay at Camp Grandma's!

My advice to you...just take your wife and enjoy! Plenty of time later on to take your son when he is a little older and can participate in the kids program and does not require all the additional "stuff" required with an infant (considering the lack of space in a typical cabin).

My wife and I will be going on our 7th cruise with Celebrity.

We have mostly done the 7 night cruises but have done 3 cruises that were longer than the 7 nights.

The crowd is, on average, older on the longer cruises. A gentleman from the US explained it to me that most younger people have 2 or 3 weeks vacation per year and that they either don't want to use it all up on one trip or they can't due to work/family commitments.

Our last cruise was 2 7night cruises back to back. The age of the passengers felt much younger than on our 10 or 11 night cruises.

lastofthebohicans, one of the ironic things about vacation time in the US is that most people with low level jobs have no problem taking a long vacation, but it is usually difficult for people who have high level positions to be away from their job for a long period of time, no matter how many vacation days they have. In light of all the people with high level positions who work very long days, without overtime compensation, and are too busy to use all of their vacation days, there are probably many people with low level jobs who effectively earn more per hour :)

I would say that based on what you like on a cruise, Celebrity would be a good fit for you. I sailed with my son since he was 3 (he is 25 now) and while we enjoyed having him along, even at 3 he was quite the handful and the cruise was alot of fun but definitely not relaxing.

If it were me, I would not bring a one year old on a cruise. I am not being critical of those who think otherwise, but I just don't think a cruise is a good place for a one year old. I don't know about your kid, but mine used to catch alot of colds and then progress to ear infections and worse. There are doctors on the ship but due to the Celebrity demographics they are certainly not very experienced in treating infants and young children. That fact alone would make me think twice. A one year old is too young to join the children's club, and if you are not traveling with friends or relatives that means you do not get a break except for possible babysitters in the evening. Love babies, love cruises, but I just don't see them as a good fit together. My opinion.

The only way to know is to try. We are not party animals either but we do like to have fun. We are in our late 30's, or as I like to say, our very late 20's.

On our only Celebrity sailing so far, we were certainly on the young end of the spectrum. It was only a 5 nighter, so you wouldn't expect the crowd to be too old in general, but it was late January so most families would not be taking a vacation at that time of year with the kids just having gone back to school. I would guess the average cruiser on this sailing was retired and well older than us. In most settings we were the youngest people around. There were very few small children on board.

Still, this wasn't really a big deal for us. We found couples around our age to hang out with. There were some younger as well. Our dinner table was mostly our age range--I don't know if that was by design.

Where it became very noticeable compared to our previous cruise--an NCL to the Bahamas--was around the pool deck/party area. This went much later on NCL, while Celebrity passengers tended to be in places like the martini bar or taking in the live music in Cova.

If you really value service, I think you will notice this with Celebrity. While we could come up with plenty of plusses and minuses between X and NCL, one area where there was no competition was service.

What sort of cabin do you typically book? Even with an inside cabin you will notice the difference in service, but if you book a suite, watch out!

I'd had a cruise in mind for a while before we booked last year. The line that got us was "for those who like small boutique hotels", this was on the Cruise Channel & what had put me off before was the idea that most ships are ott glitz. When I saw the interior of the ship I knew it was for us. I've since looked at RCL and I think it looks a bit shopping centre/Disney for our tastes.

Celebrity is right up there with some of the luxury hotels we have stayed in.

We are party animals (!) but we enjoyed the atmosphere of the ship, it's glamorous without being party central and we found people just like us who we stuck with for the whole holiday. We aren't ageist so it didn't matter their age!
