Carnival Security Is A Joke

Ship security is a complicated area. In this situation, it actually looks like ship security did the right thing - they diffuesd the situation, there was no more trouble, there was no need to use force (which includes putting someone in the brig) and even though some of the other passengers in the cabins around the rowdy couple were briefly (yes, even a couple of hours is "briefly") disturbed, then that's a good outcome.

Just to put a few things straight;

- Ship security doesn't rotate like hotel functions. They're usually under another department, for just that reason. Also to maintain security's impartiality, should there be trouble within the crew as well.

- Ship security answers to the captain, who delegates authority. With the powers vested in the captain, ship security has police authority on board. That means that if you're put in the brig, then that's not kidnapping - you're being detained. Often, ship security will inform authorities on land.

- Ship security doesn't prioritize passengers first. First on the list is the ship itself. In turn, of course, that means that they prioritize all the passengers collectively, before the individual. Which is the only right way to go.

- Detention onboard a ship should be a last resort. You can't just throw people in a locked room and leave them there, after all. That means (in many cases) assigning a security officer to monitor the detainee at all times, which would mean less service to the rest of the ship, and a risk to take in its own right.

- The LE officers here who say that security didn't do enough here have probably never worked on a ship...

If, in fact, it did.

Without being there I have no idea what really happen.

I have only one persons account.

I would need more then that to pass any judgement.

But don't let that stop the rest of you.:D

Nope, wasn't there. If this person exaggerated that much then shame on them. However, since I usually speak only truths on here, I tend to think most everyone else does as well. So excuse me for believing her/him.

Mmm Fudge...It's me the OP, I just wanted to chime in since this is back on the first page again. The guy threw a whole plate of pizza at the wife, somehow that got downgraded to a partially sauced mushroom flung in her direction...I saw the plate and the pizza in the hall, and we heard the loud bang and the woman screaming to security that he had thrown it at her.

Some are questioning the length of the event. Well I didn't have my stopwatch out. We were sleeping when it started. Each time another security member came up took about 10 minutes. It got up to six members at one point, they all left. It was quiet for little bit then two came back. I'd say the bulk of the disturbance was in the first hour, but the total event was probably three (before he finally shut up). It was way too long!

Dont worry, many here will call you a liar and claim you have an agenda if you have ANY complaints against Carnival at all. Its a cult mentality we are dealing with around here with some folks.

Funny how that cult seems to have 2 groups. Funny how the second group (the haters) are just as

deluded as the first and certainly more bitter and nasty.

I am not sure how you find it funny. I find it pathetic at best for either camp. The haters can be every bit as nuts as the worshipers. I just find the worshipers to be a little more deranged and hostile in their devotion. Most haters don't live on this board like the worshipers do so you see them less. Sure there are some Carnival haters here but I often see them being friendly and helpful, even in their complaints about Carnival. The worshippers tend to be downright hostile and fanatical.

Funny, I didn't think I would have to define "funny". Are you aware that funny can mean

"differing from the ordinary in a suspicious, perplexing, quaint, or eccentric way : peculiar —often used as a sentence modifier"

Out of 6 cruises, i called security oe time because a child (12 yo) violently pushed my son (7 yo) because he wanted him out of the hot tub, it was about 10:30 PM and i was watching the movie on the Seaside theater just beside (15 ft away).

Security response was quick, the kid ejected from the hot tub and they called for the parents immediatly (they were at the casino !).

Security handle the situation firmly and professionaly, they did a follow up the day after and told us the kid was now banned from hot tubs and pools.

No clue.....I'm thankful to be out of the drama. His 'thingies' have enough on their own....self-inflicted, of course. I'd rather not be a part of it.

That is excellent and as passengers, we should excpect nothing less.

this reminds me on an event where a kid was in the adults only pool.

the kid got sick, and i caught sight of him being helped by his father throw up directly in the pool. all this was occuring as the sirens were going off for the muster drill.

as i exited, i informed the security guy that there was not only a kid in the adult pool, he was throwing up.

after the drill, i expected the pool to be closed. of course i was nosy, and went back there.

oh yes. it was open.

it was then i that wanted to throw up.

Here is some comparison for the OP.

A RCCL Cruise where a brawl broke out and evidently no one was removed. Took security forever to get involved as well

Unless you are smuggling booze, I suspect security to be a joke on all cruise lines and do their best to not get involved.

Had a similar issue to this on the same sailing. 2 clearly intoxicated passengers were shouting obscenities and verbally abusing passengers and a staff member on the Lido deck. As it was in front of my 9 year old, I was not amused, and called security.

When they did finally show up, their only concern was whether it had turned physical. When told it hadn't, they asked us to leave that side of the deck, presumably for our safety. Then, they did nothing. Absolutely nothing. Didn't check with other passengers, didn't consult the staff member (at least that we could see, and he was in plain view for the next 30 minutes). Of course, they did do one thing... Allowed him to buy more alcohol from the bar 5 minutes after they got there.

In my experience, their view was "no blood, no foul"... Especially if they can sell him more overpriced alcohol in the mean time!
