Carnival Security Is A Joke

So a drunk guy yelling at his wife through a closed door should be disembarked in the morning? I don't see anything about him committing a crime or beating up his wife. Maybe security could have taken him away to calm things down but really don't see this any different than any other "loud, crazy" drunk. Also does the OP know the "whole" story about their situation. What if there was another guy in the room and he got mad and threw the pizza at her. Security was there to make sure the situation didn't escalate, but don't agree about being mad that he wasn't disembarked.

The way Carnival pushes drinks down your throat, you have to realize stuff like this is going to happen. Otherwise you should go on something like a Disney cruise.

On one of our Carnival cruises a woman across the hall was screaming and banging on our neighbors door, slamming her door, repeat this all the louder. I stuck my head out the door to see if security needed to be called just as they showed up. They took the woman from across the hall away (locked up) and the couple next door was confinded to thier room. All three were escourted off the ship on our return to LA. The sad part was that they were part of a teachers reunion trip.

All of the posters who keep saying, awww he was just drunk and needed to sober up or so he threw a pizza at her and was screaming at her-no big deal. Would you feel the same if it was your son in law doing these things to your daughter? Or if it was your small children have to "witness" (even with their ears) all the curse words, including the F bomb, would you honestly think it was no big deal? Or if it was you who were kept up in the middle of the night with all the comotion this abusive man was causing?

Carnival security witnessed a man being verbally, emotionally and borderline physically abusive with his wife. Abuse is abuse, whether physical, verbal or emotional. Being drunk is not an excuse. This apparently went on for over an hour. Carnival security dropped the ball on this one. Unruly and abusive jerk should have been carted off to spend the night somewhere else and then dumped at the next port.

You might be able to tell I have zero sympathy for abusive drunks.

Without witnessing this how do you have any idea what really happen?

As a poster stated before what really happen is probably somewhere in the middle.

But is true Cruise Critic fashion the speculation will go on for another 20 pages.

One thing I can say is being Security or a policeman is a pretty difficult job at best.

All of it is hearsay. Now if there was video of this, then we could make more judgements of the security. But it is unfortunate that some people can just not hold their liquor and make complete fools of themselves. I have never seen a situation on board requiring security, so I can't make any judgements on Carnival security.

Anyone who has worked in law enforcement or emergency services (going on 29 years here) can tell you domestics can be sticky calls.

From what the OP reports the guy had a few drinks, threw a pizza and was yelling . Ok not socially acceptable behavior and of course needed to dealt with,, but not the crime of the century either.

.

Perfect! For those screaming "throw him in the brig", you don't get it.

As security your aim is to defuse the situation not inflame it.

Dragging guest to the security area would have made the whole issue worse.

This doesn't mean I support allowing disruptive guest the run of the ship. Security must respond.

The response should be to stop the disruptive action. It is not to "teach the unruly a lesson",

nor is it to punish them.

Absolutely correct. I am going to have to add that to my list of "known" items.

1. Carnival customer service sucks. Check.

2. Do not expect any answer from #1 if you have a problem. Check.

3. Security is non existent. Do not even bother to call. Check.

As long as the prices stay low, I'm ok with 1-3. If prices go up. Not so much.

4. Don't get sick.

I'm a new cruiser, so I certainly can't speak to the norm, but my friend had a SEVERE sunburn, unlike any I have ever seen, and I was worried about her. I called the Infirmary four times before getting an answer  Then when I did they suggested I come down to purchase some aloe. Well, geez! Why didn't I think of that! I was just wondering if maybe she had sun-poisoning or something and if they had some answers or perhaps some new ideas on how to treat it? At any rate, remind me not to have any serious injuries on a boat....

As for the OP..... sorry the disturbance ruined your good time! There's always seems to be some kind of craziness when you have a group of people this large.

I put in a complaint to Carnival on our comment survey, but the moral of the story is if you want to get away with causing a rukus, take a Carnival Cruise.

Lucky you to have gotten a survey. Now that they randomly email them, I haven't received one.

Anytime we have used the infirmary we received better treatment than our regular doctor...honestly, they wouldn't know anything without seeing them so instead of calling you should have gone there...

I jus have to add that I don't think this is the norm. We have seen these instances a few times and security was there and did what they needed to do. I could see that maybe talking to him and dealing with him took a while but I can't see anyone screaming for hours and nothing being done.

Also, the main reason I don't the bartenders should be held accountable is you have no control. There are too many bars u can go to and even if he got flagged someone else could buy him a drink. Plus he could have ordered BV an been drinking in his room all night...

Guess we will never know...

The ship should be able to disable his card from being used for alchol purchases. That would teach the *****. He wasn't from New Jersey was he?

You could also make up a number of signs stating "this is the obnouxious drunk who keeps waking us up" and attach them to his door and keep embarassing him. But if he's from Jersy you'll have to live with it because that is just they way they are.

Hope this helps.

Really? No one in Ohio drinks? Or no one in Ohio gets obnoxious...glad you're an authority...go play in a cornfield. You don't know me or my family or anyone I know so don't judge everyone is NJ with your pea brain mentality...

Well I guess you should find a better doctor at home. And really, you need to lighten up a bit.

As a 10 year veteran of law enforcement security left a volitile situation unresolved. You don't calm down a drunk, abusive( throwing anything at anyone is assault, even a pizza). The liability of not separating him is tremendous. They should be ashamed.

So a person gets drunk one night and gets very vocal in the hallway, what should security do:confused: I know lets take him away, lock him up for the night and kick both him and his wife off the ship first thing in the morning.

Or lets calm this person down tonight, have a stern word with him when he is sober and keep an eye on him for the rest of the cruise.

The shouting stopped and you heard no more for the rest of the cruise so in my mind the security did their job right, just not to your satisfaction.

Who sold him that much the booze in the first place?

Den

My thoughts as well .What were you expecting security to do?They should be physical and lock up a guy that drank too much or put him to bed and a totally different guy wakes up in the morning and behaves the rest of the cruise. But" kick them off the cruise" is alittle harsh dont you think lol

My violent, alcoholic ex with a serious gambling problem is sailing on March 3rd. I don't know which ship he'll be on, but I fully expect that we'll hear some incident report on one of the boards that will involve him and his wife. Good luck to anyone in the cabins next to them.

Good thing you got rid of him, but too bad some other person is now stuck with him. Luckily for me, I'm not sailing on 3/3... and hope I don't have anyone like that near me <sigh>

Totally agree. BTW did he not find his wife with another man? That would set me off.

Unfortunatley this is not the only time people have posted how security really doesn't do much.
Security has one job, to check IDs at the disco. Anything more complicated than that, you're on your own.

Two words.........MALL COP!!!!!!

I do have to wonder why we would ever cruise in the first place with all the sour posts regarding the OP's thread.

It certainly makes cruising look like a cluster F!!!!

IMHO----they should have taken the both of them away! What kind of relationship that is that bad takes a cruise in the first place. Im certain that they are like that all the time!!!

They should have been put in a raft and towed behind the ship untill the next POC. Kinda kidding, but what the hell!

Someone mentioned he would have handled it himself!!! I bet he would have be escorted of the ship instead of the drunk.

Remember we get what we pay for!!!! People go on cheap cruises for a reason!

Just saying

They escort the "locksmith" who resets your room safe if you forget the code..........That's two.

They stand out in the hallway several feet behind real LEO when the occassional "just docked back in the US - lets bust the guys in the cabin down the hall who have been getting high all cruise" arrest is being made.......That's three.;)

I didn't read through all seven pages of this so I don't know if this was posted yet or not. Carnival's rules clearly state...

" Carnival and the Master each reserves the right to refuse passage, disembark or confine to a stateroom any Guest whose physical or mental condition, or behavior would be considered in the sole opinion of the Captain and/or the ship's physician to constitute a risk to the Guest's own well-being or that of any other Guest or crew member."

So we don’t know how it all ended.

He may have received the “you are not welcome on any Carnival cruise ships any more” letter.

What did guest services say when you talked to them? They usually handle things were well.

I have not ever seen anything like this happen on any Carnival cruise we have been on.

Carnival security is security. The do not have any other jobs on the ship. Security is part of the deck department. They are not in the hotel department.

Actually my doctor at home is just fine, my point was we have always received wonderful care when we WENT to the infirmary and that maybe if the poster had actually GONE to the infirmary instead of just calling they might have seen that...

I just don't like to see it when someone tells people that something or someone sucked when they actually never had the experience...the poster did not EXPERIENCE the infirmary, he experience the receptionist. The post would have been a bit more accurate had the doctor treated them like crap or misdiagnosed them. He should have said to not CALL the infirmary to try to get diagnosed over the phone.

Didn't realize that I was being heavy.
