Smoking in Cigar Bar - Can't do it. Huh????

I am not a smoker, but can tolerate cigarettes somewhat, if it's not extremely heavy. I truly cannot stand cigar smoke. But I also cannot understand why they put a "cigar bar" on a ship, and then don't permit smoking cigar's there? Who thought that one up? A poster above said, there's no ventilation in the room. HUH!!!! You think cigar bar, for cigar smokers. Cigar smokers, enclosed space, it needs ventilation. The rocket scientist's who came up with that concept, must have been "smoking something" themselves.

Taking away the Cigar bars is quite silly IMO, but according to the new smoking policy that went into affect last year...

You can now smoke cigars in the Jazz clubs on the ships, and in the designated outdoor smoking areas (cigars & cigarettes), and on the balconies.

There is still a bar where you can smoke a Cigar on the ships that had the original "Cigar Bar"...

it just moved up one level to Promenade.....

The Cigar Bar was to big (totally under utilized)......

on a ship....space is money...

On the Freedom you cannot smoke in the Havana Cigar Bar but you can smoke cigars in the Swingtime Lounge, which is on deck 5 in the back of the boat just before the International Lounge. You can also smoke them on open decks on the starboard side of the ship.

Thanks for the replies. I like a good cigar now and then. However, I would not want to smoke a cigar in a room that is not ventilated. I hate any kind of smoke that is filling up a room. We good to Vegas a lot and there is lots of smoke there. I love the new casinos that suck all that smoke up in to a special ventilation system.

The cigar bars on the ships were ventilated very well IMO. I think the problem was that people had to walk near or thru them for the internet cafe & such. Now they get to smell them in the other lounge (jazz club), and in the designated outdoor areas & balconies.:)

At least they still allow them inside in the jazz club. I enjoy an occasional cigar while sipping a drink in the evening.

When I was on Majesty of the Seas a couple of months ago, they sold cigars in one of the lounges that permitted smoking. I paid for the overpriced cigar and proceeded to light it. They came over and told me that cigar smoking was not allowed inside, only cigarettes.

I really enjoyed the cigar bars on the ships, but they are obsolete it seems. I just don't think smoking a cigar outside is the same as in the cigar lounge. I know that you can smoke them in the jazz clubs but as strange as this sounds...I don't like going in there because it smells like cigarette smoke.

I think the thing about the cigars is that someone sits and smokes one for a while and then leaves, it doesn't add too much smoke to the air, while the cigarette smokers can smoke them one right after the other, I am sure they are out there but I have never seen a chain cigar smoker. You seem to get a lot more cigarette smoke in there with people running in and out to smoke than the occasional cigar smoker that usually sits and has one and leaves...

My cigar consumption is way down on ships and land because of smoking bans. I enjoy sitting with a cocktail and enjoying a cigar. With all of the smoking bans going on it's tough to enjoy one now. I can't go sit outside for an hour in the middle winter.

Still a cigar smoker here - my handle should say it all for those of you in the know, lol

But John Heald had recently posted on his FB site that the refurbed Carnival Sunshine will have an actual indoor cigar/brandy lounge.........

The cigar bar was left over from the early days and the experience changed over time but still appealed to many of us - the decor and atmosphere, along with the excellent music was a wonderful setting for enjoying a quality cigar and cognac and watching some of the best dancers in the world. Alas...

I assume the Swingtime lounge is a smaller lounge like the karioke lounge?

Just off of the Freedom last month and the Habana bar is non smoking. It still has large paintings of old cigar box tops on the walls and the bar stools have cigar bands around the pedestals. There is a great cover band named Music Highlights playing there. The internet cafe is in the back, and the upstairs of the Posh dining room is just across the small hallway. A large number of people were in there before and after supper listening to some very good music. The Swingtime bar is now the cigar bar. It is above the Habana bar on deck five. The Swingtime bar has cigars for sale but most of the day there isn't a bartender working in there. Some nights there is a two piece band playing. I hope this helps. Sent from my laptop using two fingers...;)

If ventilation, or lack thereof, is the problem then add ventilation! With all the makeovers the ships go through how hard would it be to do this?

What's next, having a restaurant that does not server food or a bar that does not serve drinks?

Cigar Dude,

Agreed. My wife and I spent time each day in the cigar bar enjoying the relaxing environment and live music. She doesn't smoke and never mentioned being bothered by a lack of ventilation.

An additional source of entertainment was watching the folks who passed thru turn their noses up at the sight of cigar smokers while not being anywhere near the actual smoke. We even enjoyed watching one cigarette smoker complain several times to the bar tender about the cigar smokers...

  • 7 months later...
does antonr know if you can still smoke cigars in Winston's cigar bar on the Valor?
No, you cannot. Paris Hot on Promenade Deck 5 is the designated cigar bar on Valor now.
