Alaska, Southbound more $ than Northbound?

Looks like the same stops just in reverse. Any idea why the SB is more $?

I just picked up a price dumped Princess sailing, going northbound. Had already snagged a southbound 2012 HAL last year. So, another bargain trip for me, this year. :)

Some cruise lines have little bits of variance on their north and south bound cruises. This could me higher permit prices getting into the glaciers.

 

Cruises can only go in via permit and they have to pay for it.

One of the reasons I just booked RCI Radiance Northbound in May 2013 was $3976.42 for a JS cabin catagory :)

When I was doing my research, for some reason I remember the port times being longer going Southbound. Maybe that's the reason for the difference? :confused:

Thanks for the replies, I have my folks, my sister (4pl) and my Cousin (5pl), Aunt and then me and the DW. We usually go to the Caribbean (east coasters) but want to try an Alaska cruise. Have been using CC forums for a long time and will be reviewing the Alaska Port of Call with more vigor once we set a date.

According to this website, a lot of posters prefer Southbound. If they are doing any interior touring, to do that first, then relaxing cruise Southbound. Or getting the longer flight over with at the beginning of the trip, then cruising Southbound. Thus the Southbound cruises are usually more expensive than the Northbound.

 

I have done both. I actually prefer Northbound as the scenery just keeps getting better and better the farther North you go. When we cruised Southbound, you knew when you started getting close to Vancouver, your trip was almost over.:(
