Cabin Info Grand, Golden or Star

Can anyone provide information regarding balcony rooms on the Grand, Golden or Star, Cat BA, BB, BC etc. which accommodate a third person (not 3rd and 4th just the three to a room config.)? Does the bunk in any way obstruct the room or make the room smaller when it is stored away? Does the bunk while in storage cause any inconvenience? Thank you.

You have to be careful on the Grand. It is the first of the Grand class ships

and things are really not the same. We were assigned a BA on Caribe.

Then I noticed that it said our cabin (two bunks above), couldn't be made

into Queen bed and no nightstands, even though we weren't using the bunks. There are several like this. Wound up changing cabins rather than have less storage.

I agree with Coral and advise a mini suite for three people. If you are considering a BA or BB balcony, you can usually upgrade to a mini suite AD category for about $150 per person per week. It is well worth the extra expense.

In a mini suite, you will get a sitting area where the third/fourth person can sleep. In a standard balcony, the sleeping arrangements will be bunk bed style with the third/fourth upper bunks directly over the lower bunks and it is difficult to make the lower beds into a queen size bed with this arrangement (some cabin stewards won't do it for safety reasons). In a mini suite, the third/fourth sleep in the sitting area and do not sleep in the bedroom area, which gives you some elbow room. You also get a larger bathroom with a tub/shower combo in the mini. If you book a mini suite be aware that Emerald deck minis have totally covered balconies and Dolphin deck minis have completely uncovered balconies. Choose your preference.

If you cannot afford a mini suite, then I advise a Caribe deck balcony, categories BA or BB. The Caribe deck balconies are twice as large as standard balconies and will be much more comfortable for three people. The standard balconies only seat two comfortably.

Just look at the key on the deck plans to determine if a cabin sleeps 3 or 4. There will be a black triangle to indicate it sleeps three and a red circle to indicate it sleeps 4. For the most part, the upper berths recess completely into the ceiling and do not obstruct anything. As the prior poster stated, beware of the quads on the Grand. They are narrower and without nightstands. Avoid those cabins.

Thank you for the information, but to clarify further. The BA room mentioned by San Diego Sue had to be a cabin that accommodated a 3rd and 4th person not just a third person. We are not in that type of room. We are only two, so we don't require the third bunk. We just wanted to know if the bunk, when stored will be in our way. We don't require a mini suite, we a comfortable in the standard balcony room.
